  • We don’t get many stunning sunsets around here. / I managed to run outside with my camera with extreme excitement when I spotted this out the window. / Hope you like it. • As I drove out to the distant Salina’s Pueblo Mission Ruins in the middle of no where New Mexico (I mean REALLY out there!) , I drove through many Indian Reservations….a few were a tad on the scary side if ya will…however this one where I shot this on was a little larger and signs of life seemed rather optimistic. I saw this scene and just knew I had to stop and take it, a glimpse into the historical past of the Native American people of the Manzano tribe and Nation….. Thoughts welcomed!

  • I went to a friend’s ranch in Colorado this morning just out of Monument, El Paso County. Took a few snaps when I arrived. It was minus something ridiculous so my fingers almost snapped off and the lens fogged but I’m pretty happy with the result.

  • Old barn located outside of the ghost town of Shaniko, Oregon in north central Oregon State, USA.

  • Without the silhouette. / I think I like this better but my daughter wanted me to load the other one too. • Cowboy on a mule brings home the herd of horses.

  • I was petting my friend Bo (“the horse i usually ride) I turn around and Apache is watching me pet bo. I recently this past weekend rode Apache twice now I think he likes me and wants my attention to. This has been an attention day for me!

  • I ‘stole’ this shot while my friend Randy (who’s been blessed to be able to make his living as a cowboy) was explaining something to my husband. We learned much, as we listened, about breaking horses. I was struck by the fact that horses are much like people in that to effectively work with them, we must learn to think like them, to get in their minds. When was the last time you tried to figure out what a difficult person was thinking in order to know how to approach them? : )

  • I imagine these antlers, in their prime, carried high and proud on the heads of the deer that died to bring meat to the hunter’s family. In velvet, soft and lush, strengthening with the passing of time. Rubbing against trees and brush, clattering with another buck’s antlers, establishing dominance and claiming does. Whether on a deer’s head, hanging on a wall, or stacked in a pile, there’s something majestic about antlers… Aged and Weathered

  • During a trip to Dillon, MT to visit my friends Randy and Kim Rieman at Pioneer Mountain Ranch, I took a few minutes to take pictures of this old homestead just down the road from the ranch. We had met the owner a few days previous – he has plans to restore the buildings (the wood is still strong) and live there. I was fascinated by the character of the place, and especially with the ‘natural framing’ that occured with proper placement of the fence. I remarked to my husband that this reminded me so much of a photo that my friend Kinsey (aka kotybear) posted that I instantly ‘favorited,’ and I was delighted to get a chance to take a picture of something similar. A few days later, I hoped on my mom’s computer to download my images, took another look at Kinsey’s photo, and my mouth dropped as I realized that this was not a similar homestead that I’d photographed, but the same one! In all of Montana, the fourth largest state in the U.S., and considering that I now live in Pennsylvania, 2300 miles away, what are the chances?! Take a look at Kinsey’s image to compare the two photos. Amazing!

  • Taken this past Sunday in Seffner, Florida. 7 Exposure HDR image / Nikon D200 / Tokina 28-80mm F2.8 Lens

  • Be My Friend* I had the opportunity to photograph the world famous Lipizzan Stallions up close and personal at their ranch here in Colorado, and along with them, they also had several stunning Colts, and this is one of them! This little guy was a complete goofball! He was really playful, and kept nudging me as I was trying to photograph him, he was hard to get to sit still for a second so I could get some decent shots off of him. It was really an amazing experience to say the least, I kept walking away trying to photograph the other Horses, but I came back to him 5x…I suppose you could say we certainly bonded. An experience really like none other I have ever had….. —-John

  • Taken Canada Day July 1/09 at the Bar U Ranch near Longview, Alberta. / They have a long history of raising purebred Percherons. / These amazing horses are bred for pulling heavy loads and have huge feet with hairy fetlocks, strong necks and shoulders and incredibly strong haunches.

  • A very impressive, all black Percheron eight horse hitch, done four-abreast, completing an initial turn pulling a large wagon on runners. One of the interesting highlights was that these eight comprise of mixed teams of four from two different owners and yet their footwork is almost in unison!! Taken Canada Day July 1/09 at the Bar U Ranch near Longview, Alberta. / The Bar U has a long history of raising purebred Percherons. / These amazing horses are bred for pulling heavy loads and have huge feet with hairy fetlocks, strong necks and shoulders and incredibly strong haunches. /

  • Usually here at Wind River Ranch, we see alot of Bald and golden eagles during the winter months, as soon as Spring hits, we don’t see them again until late Fall. / So, Tuesday, 8/11/2009, it came as quite a surprise to look out our mudroom window and gaze upon this beauty of a Bald Eagle in what we call our “Message Tree”. / It was also a beautiful message to receive, as Eagle represents a state of grace achieved through hard work, understanding, and a completion of tests (which result in taking of one’s personal power). A reminder to take heart and gather courage, for the universe is presenting us with an opportunity to soar above the mundane and recognizing the places within our souls, personalities, emotions, and psyche that need bolstering or refinement. / In learning to fiercely attack your personal fear of the unknown, the wings of your soul will be supported by the everpresent breezes which are the breath of Great Spirit. Eagle asks you to give yourself permission to legalize freedom and to follow the joy your heart desires. She’s an Eagle when she flies Photograph edited in photoshop7 with Redfield Fractilius filter, exclusion and sharpening.

  • In about 1949 (based on my missing teeth), my uncle brought an orphaned mule deer home. She lived on the ranch for a couple seasons, coming into the house when my grandmother called her. She was called “Naughty” for her lack of cooperation the first days. She would stand outside and watch us through the windows with the ranch collie. / Eastern Montana – Dawson County

  • Series:Kentucky horses

  • This barn has been on the family ranch since the early 1900’s, made of railroad ties, cedar logs and patches. I love the smell, the look and the memories it holds. /

  • Another one of my Forever Horse series. Pretty much straight out of the camera. I adjusted levels, curves, covered blems and softened the background. / Canon 50D / Aperture – f/5 / ISO – 160 / Exposure – 1/125 Hope you like!
