  • This is a simple acrylic painting I did of the wonderful street I stay on in the upper section of Quebec City its called rue de ramparts… and all along the top of the walls are many canons from past attacks … to protect this fortified city, it has truly magnificent views overlooking the lower city basin you see all kinds of ships & sailing vessels. further out in the river itself is the Isle de Orleans...

  • The walled mediaeval cite of Carcassonne in the southern Aude district of France is a UNESCO world heritage site. The site has been occupied since the year 333 and parts of the existing cite date back to the 11C. In mediaeval times it was a virtually impregnable fortress besieged many times but fell into disrepair in the 1600s. In the middle of the 19C the French governmment commissioned Vauban to restore it, a massive undertaking. Each of its many towers is unique and there are double ramparts enclosing the inner Castle, the Chateau de Comtal. /

  • And a Redwing Blackbird on the cannon. From the Parks Canada website: The ramparts were the principal line of defence for the fort. Made of earth and rubble piled on a 45 degree angle and covered with sod to prevent erosion, they are 18.3 metres {60’] thick at the base. Just below the crest of the ramparts there is a series of posts set horizontally into the earth, projecting out from the ramparts to discourage an enemy’s effort to scale the walls. This defensive work is known as fraising. / The ramparts were not just a barrier to enemy attack, they were also an elevated platform for cannons. Two 24-pounder cannons are set on the southern ramparts overlooking the river and the American town of Ogdensburg on the far shore. A pair of 12-pounder cannons are set on the northern ramparts to fire upon troops advancing on the fort from that direction.

  • Berwick-upon-Tweed or simply Berwick is a town in the county of Northumberland and is the northernmost town in England, on the east coast at the mouth of the River Tweed. It is situated 2.5 miles (4 km) south of the Scottish border. Berwick-Upon-Tweed, the former county town of Berwickshire, had a population of 11,665 at the time of the United Kingdom Census 2001. A civil parish and town council were created in 2008. Founded during the time of the kingdom of Northumbria, which was part of the Heptarchy. The area was central to historic border war between the Kingdoms of England and Scotland for centuries; the last time it changed hands was when England reconquered it in 1482. Berwick remains a traditional market town and it also boasts some notable architectural features, in particular its defence ramparts and barrack buildings. Wikipedia EOS 1D MkIII, 17-40mm (L)

  • First attempt for infrared photography :) and with the historic icon Shaniwar Wada in my city. Although this is just processed in PS for this IR effect, I am awaiting my IR filter in coming time. Original RAW image was processed in PS and converted to three different exposure values in TIFF format and processed in Dynamic Photo HDR. Finally color balancing was done in PS. A long time I was struggling to get right ORTON effect. But this time Lois had helped me to get through it. ( Better viewed larger ). Equipment : Canon EOS 400D & EF – S 10 – 22 mm lens.
