I spent a couple of hours this evening taking photos for a CD cover I am putting together. The CD is for a friend who owns one of the loveliest little joints in Melbourne called the Famous Blue Raincoat. If any of you are thinking that it sounds familiar well it is the title of an old Leonard Cohen song... One of his best in my opinion… Anyway, James – is a Jazz guitarist who used to teach Oscar Dawson how to play the guitar and occasionally plays with him at the Raincoat. The CD is a compilation of songs from artists who regularly perform at the Raincoat, so I will probably be adding little bits here and there as I capture them along the way!
Oscar Dawson from Dukes of Windsor jamming out some very cool tunes at the Raincoat….
Smoking. Femme fatale, film noir style. / Low-key portraits are my all time favourite thing. This image forms part of my project about smoking. I have asked everyone I have photographed for permission first. I felt it was important to be honest, up front and to respect people. I think it is still possible to get a pure image even though I have made myself known to the subject. / This was taken at Newcastle Quayside.
=) taken at the Famous Blue Raincoat in South Kingsville…
A retro spin on a classic look
This is a recent painting recalling the concept of a young mind, contemplating the concept, All Day, on the first day of school. / MCN: C6EDE-0AC7E-93477
So I am still gathering photos for the CD cover I am designing for the Famous Blue Raincoat, and you will recognise the scene, but I just adored how this came out… Shot on 35mm out of date slide film cross processed… Because it is so dark inside and the dark areas are black I love how you cannot see where the frame ends and the new one begins to make the perfect panorama!
An overcast day at our home & my children having lots of fun in their raincoats. This is a revisit to a previous image of mine “Raincoat Days”. I decided to actually add some rain. It definitely needs to be viewed large… am not sure if we’ll be able to see the whole effect here…. we’ll give it a go! Here’s the original… /
A fun combination of colours and elements as ingredients for a rather unusual Christmas message.
My favourite little Bar/Cafe in South Kingsville…. This was put together for them…. The Famous Blue Raincoat

An aged lady in sunny Madrid…looking rather confused… Taken with a DSLR Olympus E-420, set to Auto (can’t remember which lens sorry!) I selectively reduced the saturation of the lady, then adjusted the hue of different areas of the background, and increased the contrast of the figure in the background. That was it. Easy peasy.
Candid at Bathurst V8 Supercars. It was a stinking HOT day, these two proudly wore their raincoats decked out with badges! I like the one at the back with pidgeon toes and shorts on especially LOL!! Thank you for looking!
This is Kaz Seed, and this photo was taken days after she had come out of surgery for bowel cancer. I had not planned to take her portrait at such a time, but it all happened so quickly, that it was unavoidable. She was a good sport for letting me poke a camera in her face when she was not feeling the best… Still looks gorgeous though! Part of a double portrait I did to enter into the National Portrait Gallery Competition… I didn’t get in, but oh well, next time….
This is James Wakeling. I had originally organised to take a double portrait of James and Kaz together at the Famous Blue Raincoat – the bar that they own. However it all went a bit pear shaped with Kaz getting cancer and all that. I think this portrait really reflects how much cancer can have an impact on our lives. Part of a double portrait I did to enter into the National Portrait Gallery Competition… I didn’t get in, but oh well, next time…
