As cyclone Hamish approaches the Fraser Coast, the clouds turned rather erie, wind was picking up, and you got the feeling it’s time to move. First day using my Ultra Wide lens, Rainbow Beach, looking North over Fraser Island coastline. Canon 50D, 10mm ultra wide. Available very large, best viewed LARGE :)

Taken at the Waterrun, Royal National Park just south of Sydney. The rainbow is from some wave spray and that’s a little waterfall off to the left. / This shot was taken about an hour before Poetry of Chaos. It was amazing watching the storm come in and the colours changing and the sea swell growing. One of the great privileges of living in this park is watching the same landscapes in a myriad of different moods depending on the weather and time of day. Image captured this afternoon on my walk around Uluru. Having been thoroughly drenched by yet another stormy shower (I had to wrap the camera in a plastic bag), I was amazed to turn around and find this beautiful view as the rain cleared and the sun returned. Taken at the Waterrun, Royal National Park, just south of Sydney at the same location as Poetry of Chaos and Falling Water Falling Light, but one month later. Really curious that at the same location in the park there were two rainbows in very similar positions but one month apart. I find strange coincidences like this happen a lot in the park – for example shooting storms off the cliffs over a couple of years I’ve found the lightning strikes are almost always in the same place for each storm. Looked out of the window yesterday evening – thought the sky showed some promise – so tootled off to Black Rock, near Barwon Heads. Wasn’t disappointed.

Right place, right time for this shot! Wanted to shoot the Devils Kitchen in the Noosa Heads National Park, but the sky didn’t agree with landscape photography on this afternoon. Hanging around shooting my favorite subjest, eagles, this offshore rainstorm came rolling in. The setting sun came out, and supplied this wonderful scene! By far the most illuminated rainbow I have ever seen, it was so bright.. Canon 50D, 10mm, Available Large, and definately best viewed Large! Noosa Heads National Park, Queensland, Australia.

Monsoon just minutes after passing by and heading up into Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona, Arizona! This storm was producing marble size hail with strong wind and rain. It was very dark and I thought the storm would not let up until after sundown. I was surprised by how fast the storm passed & just as the sun was setting. I did have my camera out trying to capture lightning but visibility was horrible so I had already put the camera/tripod away. I was totally taken off guard by this beautiful sight from my balcony and was unable to set the camera back up in time to capture the rainbows at their brightest! However, I’m very pleased with this shot…it is my personal favorite-to-date! It is so ironic that all the hiking and driving I do to different locations, I captured this one on the balcony of my apartment. A friend and I road tripped through central South Dakota a few summers ago and got to chase this rainbow for about an hour down Highway 14. I pulled over to take this picture of the bow over a ripened wheat field with drops of rainwater still glistening on the points of the barbed wire fence.

Interesting day this was, 30 knot cool winds, heavy showers, hot sunshine with 80% humidity, and a nice high tide to create these beautiful explosions!! I havn’t seen the ocean quite this rough in a long time, even when cyclone hamish was off the coast. Canon 50D, 21mm. Available very large!

Every Rainbow has a pot of gold at it’s end. As the storm passed the rainbow came out and lined up nicely on this small building left standing in paddocks between Millicent and Kingston in the South East, (Limestone Coast) region of South Australia. Canon 400D 18-55 with CIR Polarising filter.
