v2 of the famous Rails Camp tee
The original Rails Camp tee
An edit of a photo i took at Cape Otway Lighthouse just of Victoria’s Great Ocean Road in Australia a few months ago on the 28th of February 2008. HDR’d in Photomatix from one RAW file . Found a pic of some birds i took at Elwood Beach a while ago and added them in Photoshop. Some tweaking was also done in Lightroom including the black and white conversion and above is the end result. The Lighthouse is just one of many beautiful attractions in the Great Otway National Park. CAPE Otway Lightstation is the oldest, surviving lighthouse in mainland Australia. The light, which has been in continuous operation since 1848, is perched on towering sea cliffs where Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean collide. For thousands of immigrants, after many months at sea, Cape Otway was their first sight of land after leaving Europe. During my travels in six states in the past week, I finally landed in Durbin West Virginia, where I stayed with a friend of mine. This old coal steam engine depot is in her little historical town of Durbin. We finally got a chance to ride this train that soon will be reaching it’s centinial (100th) birthday in 2010. This engine is called The Durbin Rocket One of three coal steam engines actually running in the world. When we came to a short stop, I took advantage of shooting this (and yes, have quite a few shots while riding it) Something about the elderly gentleman looking at this engine remembering when he was a boy and rode trains like this enticed me to shoot it in black and white. This has not be converted, I changed settings on camera to shoot in BW, I will be adding more photos of my travels after I return from Texas this weekend. This was shot in SS priority, F-stop of 8.0, Exposure at 1/125, ISO of 400, Exposure Compensation at 0 / Best if viewed larger.
A station that time has mostly forgotten all about stands waiting for a time that may never come. These old buildings and rails remember an era where hundreds of happy faces passed through here on their way home or on their holidays: They dream of a time long since passed. The Summer sky presents its amber glow to the station and casts its pigment all over the scene, highlighting the old charm of the woodwork and enhancing the shaddows. There is a romantic stillness captured within this scene. It is easy for us to imagine a crowd of people gathered waiting on a station that looks imaculate and yet, we can also see that this truly is the End of the Line. This is a Very modern, new, contempary part of the Leeds City Centre, but seeing this flaky wall, you wouldnt think so. / It is a little stair-well connecting the back of the train station, ‘Princes Exchange’ with the new River Aire Water front, running parrallel with Whitehall road. / /
A black and white edit of the CBD from just outside the Melbourne Aquarium, wish it was a bit more still so the reflections came out a bit sharper but oh well! Taken with my old Canon 300D and converted to black and white in Lightroom 2.

I took this shot in the Victorian Village at Flambards, Helston, Cornwall, UK. Soft edge added in Picassa3. It inspired me to write the accompanying short story which I hope you enjoy and adds to your viewing pleasure. I hope you like it. / Thank you for looking and reading. Best Viewed Large. The Rippers Ghost? / The winter sun is setting on a cold Victorian London. Smoke from the coal fires mixes with the fog, making it hard to breathe. The Lamplighter is patrolling the streets doing his duty and people are scurrying around, wanting to get home and away from the dark alleyways before nightfall. It is the year 1895, and four years since ‘The Ripper’ had last struck, but fear still grips the residents of this part of East London. Some people say he is dead, others say alive, but some say that a Spirit from a bygone age haunts the streets, striking terror to all who walk the dark streets at night, deadly silent apart from the echoes of horseshoes thumping on the cobblestones, amplified in the fog, adding to the tension and the terror that fills everyone. It will be another hour till I finish my work and set foot once more into the cold smokey foreboding darkness of Whitechapel, and as I put some more coal on the fire in my office, I cannot help thinking about smoke that it is now producing, I will soon be breathing, and adding to the density of the fog, which is getting thicker by the minute, making it dark, even though the sun has not set yet. As the last embers glow in the grate, from my small office window on the second floor, I cannot see the street below, and my breath is turning to ice as it touches the window. / A cold night indeed, filled with dense smokey fog as well, some of which I am guilty of. My day is finishing, and I put my hat, coat, scarf and gloves on, ready to brave the dark world waiting for me outside the warm comfort of my office. / I open the door and enter the foggy darkness from the fire escape, tasting the coal as I breathe, which I then put the scarf over my mouth so as to try and filter some of the filthy air before it enters my lungs. From my position, I cannot see the ground, and start to descend slowly and carefully down the now icy stairs, my footsteps reverberating on every step. / I hear a distant whistle, and the muffled sounds of people shouting, and as I get lower, I recognise the sound as Policeman’s whistles heading in my direction. My breathing gets faster and my pulse starts to race, wondering what was coming towards me. / I reach the first floor landing of the fire escape and can see the pavement through the gaslights, and I then stand transfixed, too scared to move, as something appears in the corner of my eye. What is it? Is it the Ripper himself, or the Rippers ghost? / It passed in front of me and disappeared into the foggy darkness as quickly as it came. / The whistles had stopped also. What happened to them? Was that a ghostly experience as well? / I will never know. © Richard Veal. July 2009.
A beautiful Teenage girl leans over a railing by the ocean and flicks her hair. Beautifully captured in black and white with lots of bokeh as the railing gently goes out of focus.
Everytime we travelled past a row of trees or through a tunnel, I caught the reflection of the couple sat in front of me. / I composed the shot and waited for the next opportunity, only to get a passing train instead. Not a word was said between them throughout the whole two hour journey. EXIF DATA: Canon EOS 40D / 22mm, F/4.5, 1/500 sec, ISO-400 / Tripod: NO, Flash: NO
It was a game to him, it was a hunt..a hunt for the perfect victim, they wouldn’t even have a clue, not a chance for escape, he didn’t look the type, he was handsome, charismatic, the women found him irresistible, he didn’t even have to try to persuade them to come home with him.. She was perfect..beautiful, petite, full of life, after a few drinks and some conversation he had her in his spell, flirting, and complementing her, she was putty in his hands..he could feel the excitement race through his veins as he walked her to his truck..when they pulled up in front of the building, he seen the realization come across her face..her fear only excited him more..she grabbed the door handle ready to flee..but he was too quick and had her by the hair..dragging her out the drivers side door screaming, she fought him with all her strength, kicking, biting, but he wasn’t even fazed by her blows..as he climbed the stairs and slid open the door, he smiled..knowing that the Final Steps in this game were about to begin.
