  • “At sea” is one image from a series called “The Riders”. See the full series in my bubblesite. I’ll admit to a huge chunk of luck with this series. I had only the vaguest idea of how the film would respond and panning is always so hit-and-miss. In “At sea” I just love the way the crowd and the peloton were reduced to flowing wavy lines with the two sharpest riders almost appear to be bobbing in the waves. The series were shot on Kodak color infrared film. The distinctive colours and grain are characteristic of the film. The motion blur was captured in-camera by using camera panning and slow shutter speeds – ranging between 1/15th and 1/2 second. A 28mm wide angle lens further added to the distortion and impression of speed. The camera was a vintage (early ‘80s) Pentax K1000. Digital manipulation was limited to minor contrast correction and dust removal post scanning.

  • Translucent is one image from a series called The Riders that was exhibited at The Centre for Creative Photography in Adelaide (March 2008), in 2009 at the Epson Gallery at Photographic Wholesalers in Hutt Street, Adelaide and again in March 2009 in Bellingen, NSW as part of the Sibling Rivalry show. I enjoy the transparency the motion blur has imparted on the riders in this image. There’s an almost Jellyfish quality too it. That the infrared film gives a blue cast to the road surface helps with that impression too. The series were shot on Kodak color infrared film. See the full series in my bubblesite. • Thor is one image from a series called The Riders that was exhibited at The Centre for Creative Photography in Adelaide (March 2008) and in 2009 at the Epson Gallery at Photographic Wholesalers in Hutt Street (January 2009) and again in March 2009 in Bellingen, NSW as part of the Sibling Rivalry show. There’s something about the beefy arms, yellow torso and winged helmet of this rider that reminds me of a B-grade Thor animation from my childhood. Actually I’m probably mixing my gods, the winged helmet probably belongs to a different god, but hey, memories are memories and it’s not as though second rate cartoons are documentaries, hey? • Light-years from earth, across the dark void of space lies Witch World, an alien planet where magic works and there is no industry of science as we know it. Witch World is a wild patchwork of walled cities, vast forests where daily life is stranger than our wildest dreams. The witches who live here are shape shifters and can transform into any animal at will. Gillian, a magical and very powerful witch joined the Were-Riders, a special and elite group that can penetrate the spells of illusion cast by the evil witch, Herrell who believes she and those she controls will become rulers of witch world after defeating Gillian and the Were-Riders. Descended from an ancient race with magical skills, the were-riders were exiled from their home in the Domain of Arvon. Usually Gillian’s animal form is a great mountain lion. The entire domain resembles the head of a witch and the eye, a dark portal on the upper right is the cavern that serves as an entrance into this mysterious world. I imagine as you look further, you can see many more images that illuminate this dangerous yet beautiful realm. Please use the large format to view the / imagery in this bark abstract.
