Runaway by: Nicole Ryan “I’m not going there again,” He said / back to the mirror / there was a man / he always looked out from those eyes / pretending to be mine / pretending to care / pretending to be there / but he wasn’t. He never was / he was always less best; if we don’t consider / how I got here / I have to live with it / you don’t. Yes, it’s dark here / no matter what time of day / and that’s why I like it / I come here / I brighten my world / with colour / silence / and just the slow trickle / of the water / reminds me of my blood / it reminds me that i’m still alive. I can hear my heartbeat / it’s steady / no thumping / jumping / walloping / or whacking / against walls / and doorways / and down that shitty staircase / that he loved best / he would push and push / and yell at me some more / digging his dirty index finger / into my chest / you’re an asshole / you’re a loser / you’ll amount to nothing / you’re just like your father / and your mother’s a whore / of course / he was always right. So I spray these walls / I create light from the darkness / I leave my name / a symbol / and a dream / I roll cigarettes / I smoke / just like he did / and I fight the constant urge / to kill that fucker / for killing my life / and my desire / to kill that pain / with a bang / with a pill / with a slice / and I take all of the pieces / marching around inside of my head / paint a picture of his face / I highlight it / design it / and own it / with an underline / a capital word; DEAD / and I promise myself / and the angel up on the bridge / that I will live / and I will come here again tomorrow / so that I don’t visit him / and end it all forever no matter much he deserves it / I will always runaway. © ryan
/ Calypso’s Quest by Karin Taylor / from the Beach Stuff Series / this is mixed media collaged piece / i have used acrylics and guache, watercolours, cut out paper / to form the sails and the hull This song is about the ship Calypso, which was bought by Jacques-Yves Cousteau and converted to an oceanographic ship. Cousteau wanted to understand “The silent world” better, in order to protect it. “To live on the land we must learn from the sea” – Cousteau was the first to do research on pollution and its effects on the sea and received many honors for his accomplishments. John Denver cared deeply about nature and this song was a tribute to both Calypso and her captain and their valuable work. (thanks, Marthe – Amsterdam, Netherlands) Calypso” Lyrics / To sail on a dream, on a crystal clear ocean, / To ride on the crest of a wild raging storm; / To work in the service of life and the living / In search of the answers to questions unknown; / To be part of the movement and part of the growing, / Part of beginning to understand . . . Aye, Calypso, the places you’ve been to, / The things that you’ve shown us, / The stories you tell; / Aye, Calypso, I sing to your spirit, / The men who have served you / So long and so well. Like the dolphin who guides you, / You bring us beside you / To light up the darkness and show us the way; / For, though we are strangers in your silent world, / To live on the land we must learn from the sea; / To be true as the tide and free as the wind-swell, / Joyful and loving in letting it be . . . / John Denver / Album: Windsong
©Seth F.Weaver Sr.1972. Linoleum block print. This was inspired by the TV mini-series “Roots” and the life and blight of slavery in the South. I have always liked this print it has a “The Gleaner” feel and look to it. This will probably not be popular with everyone with it’s lack of color, but black and white can be colorful too! Seth
A journey is a symbol of transition, change or evolution which is expressed in countless myths and legends where a hero undertakes a journey beset with physical and moral trials. In psychology a journey may symbolise the quest for self-discovery. To my sister with thanks for all her support, care and love. This path tells us of the truth that is lying in each one of us and helps us uncover our faith in a higher power that is expressing itself within us. For Spike to realise that it is so simple.

The Conclusion As the witch Qunal’s ashes lay burning in the field, what was left of the rescue party found it bittersweet. The wicked witch was dead; no longer to bring death and destruction to the countryside of the Elves, but the endeavor took its toll. Many in the party were dead from the spells that were cast by the now deceased witch, but mostly the Huntress was gone the very person they wanted to rescue was dead. The Bowman asked again, “Whose arrow was it, which struck the witch’s heart?” “It looked like the same arrow that the Huntress used, it had her markings!” he exclaimed. As they pondered on the subject the Warrior and the Bowman looked toward the path that lead into the woods, they both gasped, for there before them was the image of the Huntress and her bird companion, as they both glared the Huntress gave a small nod and waved as the bird encircled her, then quickly as the Huntress appeared, she then disappeared into the morning mist. “What does this mean?” The Bowman questioned. Holding back her tears the Warrior said; so very softly, “It means that she will always be protecting and watching over us.” So as the morning light was coming up over the forest, they both knew that the quest was finally over. / Larry Fridel This is the final piece for the Huntress Series. In a vision of St. *John the Divine, God is described as seated on a throne and holding in his right hand a scroll sealed with seven seals. When the first four are opened, four horses appear, WHITE, red, black and pale, or piebald (Rev 4:5). They are usually depicted with riders and symbolize CONQUEST, slaughter, famine and death, all of which will ravage the earth before the end of time.
