  • This spectacular coastal scene was a merely 100m from my bed for about 5months – Many times I ventured out early and late to watch and attempt to photograph it how I would best remember it – I hope in years to come this photograph will do it justice… see more photographic works from North Qld. / Nth Qld

  • Common name: Yellow-footed Tinypore / More info on the fungi here and check out “Fungi Down Under” by Fungimap (Pat Grey & Ed Grey). / Taken in Malanda, Far North Queensland, Australia.

  • Getting to know the stars is an important part of landscape photography. Using a compass and G.P.S I was able to pinpoint the South Celestial Star. Because of the rotation of the earth, using a six hour exposure gives the feeling of the stars trailing around this point. I used a 5 million candle power flashlight to illuminate the sand dune. Because of the massive size of the dune I had to climb an adjacent dune and paint the light on from there. • Taken at Nudgee Beach in Qld this morning. This is a HDR image from 3 different RAW files.

  • Explore – Highest – Nov 20, 2008 #16 Another storm photo from Brisbane from last night (Nov 20th). The water laps up to the road almost at the moment. So to avoid getting fried, I decided to set the shutter on remote and get the right exposure. Then fire it and run out of the water to the car. This was taken shortly before a few drops of rain came. I knew then I had a few mins to get in the car quickly. Then came the heavy rain, just making it home before the hail! BEST viewed large on BLACK

  • Taken at Wellington Point on Sunset. Just above the tree, is the Venus/Jupiter/Moon Smiley Face!

  • About After hearing that the weather forecast wasn’t going to be too great, and it was going to be high tide at sunrise, we decided to head to Currumbin Beach anyway to meet up with Josh to do a scout at least here. What a fantastic place! High tide was just right with the water rushing all the way through the rocks causing all sorts of incredible effects. - ISO 100, f11, 35 sec, 20mm / - Sigma 10-20mm Lens / - Tripod used Processing - Photomatix HDR – 3 exposures (2, 0, 2) / Soft light layer / - Clarity and and unsharp mask.

  • About The last sunrise of 2008! Taken at Burleigh Heads, Queensland. This was the first time for me there and Lance. It’s a sweet spot and looks fantastic for Sunset also. Climbing down to the the rocks is a little tricky though, rather slippery but no match for my Keen’s! I was sitting on a rock when I took this. The interesting thing is the surfers – they just jump across the rocks in bare feet! There was a large group of them later in the surf with an purple flare – I assume to signal the end of 2008! - ISO 100, f11, 21 sec, 10mm / - Sigma 10-20mm Lens / - Tripod with sand in the joints Processing - HDR using Photomatix (2, 0, 2) / Unsharp mask / - Soft Light Layer / - Dodging and burning to bring out the rocks a bit more / - Noise Ninja in Photoshop to remove excess noise / - Horizon straighten and resulting crop

  • Southern Ocean Storm © Vicki Ferrari Looking east from Emu Park, Queensland, Australia. The Southern Cross, and the two pointers, are visible on the right hand side. The two bright lights on the ocean are ship lights. And there is lightning (bonus!) breaking through the storm clouds on the left Technical Data / Nikon D70 / 18mm focal / f3.5 / manual exposure (30 secs) / 25/3/05

  • About Taken in the Brisbane area. It’s actually Garry’s spot, which Kane and I found one day on a trip around the hill side. - ISO 100, f11, 1/2 sec 16mm (2 under) / Sigma 10-20mm Lens / - Tripod full of Cedar Creek water Processing - No HDR / - Punch preset for some extra vibrance / - Unsharp mask / - Soft Light Layer / - Gradient Filter applied afterwards as we were in too much of a hurry to get here!

  • . i m a g i n a t i o n . . .© Vicki Ferrari YOUR TIME MAY BE LIMITED BUT YOUR IMAGINATION IS NOT / Anonymous QUILPIE TRAX— This series was created when I was having a difficult time and found that all my reserves seemed to point me in a creative direction, and didn’t I have fun with it! If you are ever not coping with life, be creative! It brings you out of the doldrums in a big way! The satisfaction of seeing something that you created is a wonderful feeling. I hope that this feeling comes across in these series, created in December 2008. Has anyone else noticed how much this person Anonymous wrote & no-one seems to know where he lived, what he looked like?! He was so talented, wasn’t he?! This photograph of Queensland Railway Tracks was taken in February 2005. It is taken in the morning between Quilpie and Charleville, looking west. There is more to come in this series, still being created! This card (graphics) were designed in December 2008, using Photoshop. If purchasing as a motivational, inspirational or greeting card, the BLACK background blends is well with the black border. It is available up to POSTER size, if that is your desire! I only hope that you find this as inspiring as I found it when creating it! Tech Data / Nikon D70s

  • About An OK sunset with some nice blue hour love. High tide was at 5.54pm, sunset about 6pm – so the waves were coming in hard. I was surprised by the surfers paddling out at dusk, but the waves were 1 -2 metres, sometimes even 3 metres – awesome. - ISO 100, f22, 30secs, 10mm / - Sigma 10-20mm / - Cokin Grad 4 (P121M) Processing 1) Import into Lightroom as RAW / a) Curves / b) Soft Light Layer in Photoshop / c) Recovery / d) Grad filters to bring out the sky / e) Slight Crop / 2) Export using Flickr Uploader and LR2/Mogrify plugin

  • Heart Reef © Vicki Ferrari A scan of an original print, taken using a Minolta SLR, back in the early 1990’s. / Heart Reef is located north of Hamilton Island, on the Great Barrier Reef, in North Queensland, Australia. It was named Heart Reef because, and obviously, it looks like a heart! / This photograph was taken from one of my regular chopper rides up on the island. I never got sick of flying in choppers, or seeing the amazing reef from the air! When you are at the Whitsundays, well worth visiting the Reef by helicopter! The view is amazing! • Canon 50D | P154 Cokin Filter | ISO 100 | f11 | 5 | 10mm About A chilly morning, some previous scouting a few days before and a trip out west to find some fog was organised. And fog was discovered, in large copious amounts. This shot was taken out near Esk, up in the hills where the fog is aplenty. Processing 1) Import into Lightroom as RAW / a) Curves / b) Saturation / c) Clarity / d) Blacks / e) Soft Light Layer in Photoshop / 2) Exported from LR2 via LR2/Mogrify

  • Canon 50D | ISO 100 | f11 | 1/2 | 20mm About As predicted, my foggy landscape addiction continues. A bit of a story to this one. Mel S had a day off and I mentioned to her about this planned idea of mine. Keen for someone to come along to suss this place out, we agreed to meet just before the turnoff to the lake. I headed down the road towards the lake and missed the turn off, which was only about 1.5ks from the highway. My phone was dying and the reception was terrible. Oh by chance we passed each other and then headed back to find the road. Lost again and me with only a few litres of fuel left, we headed back to the fuel station. There we checked a map, found the road, found a way in and got in just as these colours were unfolding. An amazing place to visit, fog was rolling over the water and trees, and through the mountains. Processing A little bit of work on this one, but not much. A quick crop to straighten the horizon. Matt’s Grad Filter to pop out the sky nicely. Punch Preset in LR2, followed by some curves and Camera Calibration set to Landscape. Into PS for some soft light. Some Brightness in LR2 and a little negative Clarity to counter some over zealous amounts. And Sharpen Landscapes preset in LR2.

  • Canon 50D | ISO 100 | f11 | 2.5 | 10mm About Lake Moogerah ah la Lake Fog. The sun was rising to the left, but the colours in the sky, oh my. A very dominating foreground, perhaps too much so. Processing HDR (-1, 0, +1). Processed in Photomatix and then back to LR2 and PS for some Soft Light, sharpening and clarity.

  • I shot this one after my return from Tasmania, and while I was shooting it, it reminded me of the sunset on the Tasman Peninsula. So I’ll post them both on the same day.. It’s Tasmania v Noosa… :) I know it’s not really an even playing field with the pelican there, but I did wait 10-15 mins in the Tassy area, and not one bird flew by. Lake Doonella, Noosaville, Noosa Heads, Queensland, Australia. Canon 50D, 10mm. Available large and best viewed Large!!
