The dry rolling hills of the Pyrenees during summer, this region has become a popular wine district. / The area is part of Victoria’s historic gold trail.

The scattered settlement of Balança, nestling in the Pyrenean foothills. We spent two wonderful weeks in the white building almost hidden by trees in the lower right of the picture. Bliss.
From a viewpoint near Ascou.
Col du Soulor 1450m, South West France very close to the Spain border This little barn was built some 200 years ago by the shepherds to gather their flock at night during summer time. The shepherds lived a harsh life there with their sheep during the whole summer, before going back down the valley for winter. Now this barn has been rebuilt with all possible comfort and is my friend’s friends home for the week-ends
This vineyard grows grapes for the sweet, white wine known as Jurancon in Monein, France. The vineyard sits in a valley below the Pyrenees mountain range, close to the Spanish border.
I spotted this scene in Southwest France just below the Pyrenees mountain range. The sheep were obediently following the shepherdess on her bicycle and the Great Pyrenees dog was watching over everyone in the rain. /
This image was one of those “Stop the car!” moments. We were driving through the Pyrenees in a slushy snow/rain storm and I spotted the waterfall beside this little building. It looked like a fairytale forest hideaway. /

Pudgee is a Great Pyrenees mix that not long ago lived with her owners next door to us along with her pure blooded Pyrenees mother. Only a chain link fence kept her away from us; and over the years that did not always stop her. / Not long ago her owners opted to give her up and it seemed only logical that she come live here. Of course we couldn’t turn her away as she had come to know us, and our dogs as well as her original family. / The past few months have been an adjustment for her, mainly because she’s not used to being fed on a regular basis and tends to want to hoard her food. / She’s not aggressive though, just fearful that it may be a long time from one meal to the next. This capture of her, taken only a few weeks ago and edited in Photoshop using artists filters, has been one of my most favorite of her so far. You can see in her eyes the sweet, and loving dog that she is, but knowing her as I do, I can also detect that spark of fear that tomorrow she’ll be fending for herself again and just another yard dog. I hope as time passes she’ll learn she has a forever home now and won’t ever have to live life on the outside again.

Although it is warmer in Monein than it is here in Brussels, early one morning I awoke to this beautiful frosty scene. The Pyrenees Mountains were shrouded in mist and the vines had a dusting of frost. Gear: Nikon D80, AF-S NIKKOR 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 G ED

View from Plateau de Beille, France. Plateau de Beille is a ski resort in the Pyrenees. It is situated in the Ariège department, in the Midi-Pyrénées. The winter sports station lies at a height of 1790 meters. The ski station is located between Tarascon-sur-Ariège and Ax-les-Thermes, close to the Spanish border. The ski slopes are at between 1650 and 2000 m. The station is the most important in the Pyrenees for cross-country skiing (which I hate!) We are very lucky to have friends who live just 45 minutes drive from here. Canon EOS 50D
The newest addition to our family, Stewie, our 8-week old Great Pyrenees puppy, is chilling out here after his first bath and blow dry, hanging with Daddy on the couch. Stewie is a runt and will likely be 1/2 the size of a “normal” GP adult male, which will still make him about as big as a Golden Retriever or German Shepherd. Stewie likes to wrap his arms around my neck when I hold him and lays his head on my shoulder, and I rock him just like a baby.
