  • Reflective, calm and peaceful. A walk through Adelaide on a balmy summer’s evening along the Torrens, looking at public art and feeling completely at home. To have a camera there to capture a small portion of that feeling and take it home is what it is all about. / Talking Our Way Home sculpture by Shaun Kirby

  • Conte Crayon on paper. This one is inspired by my favourite work, “Collins Street at 5 pm” by John Brack. I was thinking of Flinders Street/ Spencer Street Stations when I drew this. I just used to get lost in the human sea of faces that use to flow up and down Melbournes Streets and they conjured up all sorts of feelings and emotions.

  • For the amenity of self I’m only standing here / as long as it takes / to purge you from the centre of me / you sit back there thinking I’ve not got a heart / but I do / and I am going to take it back from you. I’m going to hold it / warm it again / and place it back where it belongs / in my chest / proud and functioning / without you. I care not that you are everything / one thing / more than something I ever wanted / It’s too late now / I am washing it all away; Down / around / circling through the bends / gurgling and spluttering / away into the ocean of tears / where the waves curl and lick the saltiness / under again where it belongs / today / I am going to stand up straighter than I ever have / there is no other way / I am going to stare at myself in that mirror / until my eyes become my own again / and I’m going to say it all / until I believe it. Goodbye. © ryan This wonderful poem was written by the very talented writer and good friend / nicole ryan This series was shot the old fashioned way, the camera an old Pentax K1000 with ILford Black and White film and hand printed using high contrast filters. / This public toilet was utterly disgustingly dirty and had not been cleaned for who knows how long. The available light just made it look beautiful! / No post production on this, it’s a straight scan from the original hand printed print.

  • Irish Gardaí Síochana take a bus instead of a Black Maria van. I got on this bus on George’s street, or some part of that street that has several names, in Dublin and after sitting down turned around to see oodles of Gardai. / I had my camera. / I was cheeky. / I turned and asked whilst showing the camera if I could take a picture. Reluctantly they agreed some with humour others not so much. They had their hats off so I shot one without and realising that this would never occur again I asked if they would put their hats on. “Ah go on off with ya,” said one. “Hats on”, barked the sergeant/captain from the back of the bus. Hats went on, “Smile please”, I said. Smiles were fixed. “Could you all look straight ahead please?”, I asked. Eyes were pointed forward. “Could you move just a bit to your right?, Yeah you. Thanks” “Take the photo!” I heard. I did. Here it is. / 1995 On a public bus George’s Street – Dublin

It’s that time of the week again already, and this week there are two important additions to the site today. Gaia, the book, is now on sale. It looks fantastic, get your copy from the RedBubbble Store. For more information, and a list of those published, please see this post. Even bigger news is that today we have launched a new take on RedBubble’s continued exploration of New Art. We see this art as a move away from art bestowed upon us to art that ultimately embraces all of us as co-equals in its creation and interpretation. The publications ‘In the Moment’ and ‘Gaia’ were part of this exploration. The new work ‘PAX’ is an online Mosaic of 16,384 images from RedBubble artists that aims for a collective beauty that is no greater than any single one of its components. It is an art work that is complete on the Web, fully harnessing the power and potential of this medium in its creation and in its display. Enjoy! - Pilgrim

There is a whole lot of media out their wanting fat juicy stories to fill pages, air time and pixels. You probably don’t realize how interesting you really are. This little challenge is designed to get you thinking about ways to turn your story into some free publicity and media love. 1. Write a press or media release about yourself and your art. / 2. Upload it as a journal on RedBubble and tag it with press release / 3. Win cool business cards with your artwork on them (or at least some experience promoting yourself) “But I don’t know how to write a press release” $20 says all the artists who do know how to write press releases had to learn at some point. It’s not brain surgery, but it is a fine art. Which means us creative people have a built in advantage. Here’s some info to help you get started: How to write a media release / How to write a press release that works / How to structure a press release If you’re really stuck, try asking a few people what makes you stand out? How they would describe you to someone else? What is the most unusual thing they can remember about you? And what’s all this about winning business cards? That’s the bit where I say “top job” to one of the best press/media releases uploaded and buy that person some cool business cards. This doesn’t begin to compare with the thrill of seeing your story in print, but they will be handy when you’re rich and famous. I’ll also be consulting with some PR minded folk to get some more opinions on the entries. So you don’t have to take my word for it. And while only one person wins the business cards I will be keeping an interested eye out for stories really worthy of some media spotlight. Then I’ll lather you with love and support and a good kick until you give it a go for real. Winner: David Petranker for this little number

  • I thought I would give this shot a better sky

  • Taken in New Dehli India.

  • Electric Brain / Science fiction has been mentioning artificial intelligence for decades. However it’s becoming more and more a reality. Robots are being build to resemble humans in every way and computers are able to proces data with superhuman speed. / So what will the future bring for humanity? Do we all have a robot clone which takes over our day job, so that we can do whatever we like? Or are we going to be upgraded with implants to make our brains work faster and more efficient? / This may be a distant future, but this t-shirt will bring the future to you! This is also my entry for the Halftone challenge, the halftones are in the brain as can be seen in the detail image below. / Detail image / Other t-shirts / /
