Featured in First Things, Painted Nature, and Color Me a Rainbow groups Acrylic on 9×12 canvas board- Inspired by the song “Open Channel” by Kan’Nal. This entire piece was created while listening to both of Kan’Nal’s CDs on repeat. (Dreamwalker & Kan’Nal) I was in a very bright mood and felt that it translated onto the canvas in the yellow background. As I was letting it dry, I kept being drawn to the song ‘Open Channel’. Everytime the chanting and primal beats of the chorus would start, I would have to get up and move my body. It’s impossible to listen to this band and not feel the urge to move! “And there was always something / Up in the mountain and in the ocean, / A channel that is open to anyone / who would listen to, I listen to it. Ooh jah a leh ah Ooh jah a leh leh leh leh / Ooh jah a leh ah Ooh jah a leh leh leh leh / Ooh jah a leh ah Ooh jah a leh leh leh leh / Ooh jah a leh ah Ooh jah a leh leh leh leh” Each time I would close my eyes, I would see vibrant bursts of reds and oranges against all that yellow. So I started with the random drips of paint blown about by my straw. The tree trunk, branches, and roots came next. Something about the title, ‘Open Channel’, made me depict the tree connected to nothing….and everything at the same time. I added the darker red leaves/petals and began looking over the painting to see if I was, indeed, finished. ‘Palenque Rain Song’ was playing, the soft sound of rain drops filling my head. (This is a wonderful meditation song!) During the rain, a bell chimed – it was like someone hitting a gong or turning on a switch in my head. I knew then that there were some little faeries that wanted to live in this tree. They are not detailed, they are glowing with energy, they resemble dragonflies because the viewer does not yet see them as real beings. This was a part of my first feature in ‘The Buyer’s Booth’ Open Channel Lyrics / Kan’Nal
Acrylic on 9×12 canvas board- Inspired by the song “The Willow’s Lullaby” by Priscilla Hernandez. This piece was created while listening to Faerie Radio. (If you haven’t listened to this, you must! Faerie Radio The Soundtrack to the Magickal Realm ) This ongoing playlist is full of music that stirs the soul – there was something about the type of music that brought the color blue to the front of my mind. So, I layed down some Phthalo Blue as the background. Next came the bright green ‘leaves’, I needed something very vivid against that deep, spinning blue. Then came the tree trunk and branches, followed by the fade into a ‘watery’ area, and finally the darker ‘leaves’ were added. I sat back to get a good look at the painting, and knew that it needed some final touches. About this time, a beautiful Priscilla Hernandez song came on. The melody and sound of the instruments in this song helped to move my brush and add in the Faeries and thier ‘faerie dust’. I had clicked over to Faerie Radio to see what the name of the song was because I knew it would be my title. I saw that it was: “The Willow’s Lullaby” and thought to myself; “How perfect! It does look like a Willow Tree!”. The lyrics for this song are a bit darker than the sound of the song suggests. “When the willow sings half alive / it releases all the pain it hides inside / if you hear its song alone / You fall sleep and your soul is gone…” Is this what we see in our dreams beneath the Willow? Or are these Faeries here to take you once you have fallen asleep? Not all Faeries are kind…I do believe these could be a terrible beauty… The Willow’s Lullaby Lyrics / The Willow’s Lullaby Video / Priscilla Hernandez

Acrylic on 11×14 canvas board Springtime is my favorite season, I just love all of the new growth and color that pops up! I’ve seen Spring in many places, but I have to say, Springtime in Oregon is absolutely stunning! On my drive home from work the other day, I noticed that there are Cherry Blossoms and what I think are a type of Japanese Maples blooming EVERYWHERE!! Some are bright pink, some are pale pink, some are a vibrant purple! These new colors really stood out and stuck in my head. Originally, I saw this painting as having the deep green background, that you see, with shades of purples for the leaves…..I wanted more of a wine or grape feel. But….I encountered a slight problem. The royal purple that I wanted to lay down first would not show up on the deep green in the background! I was rather frustrated, so I went back to the original inspiration and mixed up some pink. Once I started laying down the pink, I thought to myself: “Oh dear, this is WAY too bright!” Needless to say, my spirits were crushed a little when things weren’t working as planned. But…I trusted my Muse and let her guide me through this. Once I was done with the pink, I went back in with some purple…YAY for the bright pink letting it show up this time! Then came the trunk and branches, followed by the highlites. Of course, my troubles couldn’t be over! I was stuck! I couldn’t decide how to finish off the piece! What final color would tie everything together? Would there be a home for a faerie in this one?! So, I went back to the source of inspiration for this series – the music! The music that was playing during this painting was from Faerie Radio again. (Really, go listen!! FaerieRadio) Songs by Australian artist, Louisa John Krol were playing much more frequently than any other artist on the playlist. I took this as a sign and went to her myspace page to hear more. I was a little bummed at first that she only had one song available to play, and it wasn’t one that I had heard. But, I clicked play anyway and everything fell into place! “Come blackbird and take my soul away / You won’t keep your vagabond at bay! / Your fortress hangs heavy in the tree: / Come blackbird and take the soul of me away…. / Who will listen into your lore? / Will the echo follow your call? / Who will listen while you’re waiting by the wooden door? “ / Louisa John-Krol So, I went back to the canvas and added in the Faerie. She’s waiting, by the wooden door, ready for the blackbird to come. She doesn’t want to be forgotten when she’s gone so she blows some of her magick into the wind… UPDATE / I took the original with me to my very first art show….it was the only painting that sold that night! YAY! It now belongs to a very fun and lovely 16 year old girl! Thanks! Available as a T-Shirt HERE

Hey Joe, your mama weren’t home but the lights were on / A distant cloud clanged by with thunderous melody / Deep purple fell from the sky, raining down a dream / And, we all had to hide in our little yellow submarines / Oh death, where hast thou taken me, through love / Oh brother, where art thou , now cries the wind / Well, I’m standing next to a mountain, give me shelter / Brown sugar, just like I knew you would, in the ghetto / Give me shelter, and a little tea and sympathy / As we watch tears, and red balloons, go by (If you behave, maybe I’ll put it on a t-shirt, later! ) Music: Hey Joe / Addicted to Love / The Wind Cries Mary / Purple Rain / Purple Rain / Purple Haze / Running Down A Dream / Deep Purple Dream / Oh Brother, Where Art Thou (the whole movie) / Oh Death (from the above mentioned movie) / Voodoo Child / As Tears Go By / Yellow Submarine / Stand Next To Your Fire / 99 Luft Balloons / Brown Sugar / Give Me Shelter / In The Ghetto / Let It Bleed Though, not necessarily in that order! You know, I just realized that Jimi Hendrix had wonderul posture! Which is odd, considering many guitarists claim that you HAVE to have bad posture to be good! lol I guess you don’t need it to be friggin’ phenomenal, though, so straighten up boys! I also realized, even officially, that is on books and records and such, there is at least three ways to spell Jimmy, Jimmie, Jimi’s name and it’s no wonder I get confuzzled! MUSICAL ART PEOPLE: There is a musical instrument, musical notes, and a musical man, and a poem regarding musical history. Deal! Other people: learn the definition of homage, and “not what it seems” because this is not who you think it is, or about whom you think it is. The variety of music should give you a clue. This is possibly the most detailed and intense thing i’ve ever drawn (with a fine liner.) Thanks.
The T-shirt version of ‘In Memory’, which, along with my original poem, found in the same place, is an homage to rock n roll of old, but not so old as to be newborn! lol The title is also an homage, as it references something one olden days rocker had to say in a song . Which song? This song: Manic Depression Ha! Psych! Made you listen! Really it’s this song: Are You Experienced? For those who are confused, an homage is not a manipulation or a reproduction or a painting using an image as a model. It is a nod to, or reference to, or deference to, someone else. This is an original piece of art, made by my own hands – yes, digitally, but, still, my own hands! .................................................................................................... “Not necessarily stoned; but, beautiful!” was featured in Outsiders2 months ago (as of June 12, 2009) I changed the name of this piece AFTER it was featured!
