I have been experiencing various changes over the last year, most of them pertaining to my Spiritual awareness. I have been working extensively with My Spirit Guides on various projects. Over the last few weeks I have felt uneasy wondering what all this was for. An awful pain came over me with the news of the devastation that was occurring and continues to occur in Australia. I have always been very fond of that wonderful country. I have been trying to piece a jigsaw together all my life and today a very important piece flew into my life and showed me the next step of my journey. Many people have asked how I do so many paintings. Today I am going to share a selection of them with you. There are times when I paint more, and times when I paint less. I realised today that I need to share them with everyone as the paintings hold certain visions, places and timelines which may pertain to one of you. I am a firm believer in My Spirit Guides and have explained to my family and friends that I would be revealing my visions from today and sharing them with who ever finds them interesting. There are times when I know who and what they represent and other times when their meanings only become clear after a certain time has elapsed. I recently worked with John Pryere on a project which we called Fire & Ice. This entailed painting on ice and snow and then recording the event as it melted. I have become very interested in the concept of ephemeral art and will continue to do more. The events in Australia have played a very large part. One day we have something and the next day it is gone. Why attach importance to material objects and possessions. We all have our journeys and mine is taking a different route. On the days I paint I shall be uploading the work which I painted for everyone to see. I will be calling them My Spiritual Visions, which is exactly what they are. John Pryere has kindly offered to photograph my work which I am very happy for him to do. I am a believer of past lives and even do people’s regressions. I feel that many of us have become friends for more reasons than sales and complimentary comments. The visions that I have been experiencing lately have made me decide to share them with the World and today I start this new journey. Thank you for all your support, kindness, friendship but above all – your understanding. / Kind regards…..always, / Sophie Shapiro 24th February 2009

A few months ago I had a very strange experience with hot wax. I had wanted to use the wax with ice for some reason and this thought had continued to follow me until yesterday when my garden was covered with snow. I already had prepared ice in different colours in my freezer. I asked my very dear friend John to come over and help me in my experiment. I took the snow and started building layers. I added different colours of pigment, acrylics, graphite, inks and ice. The results you can judge for yourself. All I know is that I had great pleasure producing the picture that John recorded photographically yesterday. I really like the way that the environment blends translucently with our own human existence and forms a bond, be it only momentary. / In the 80’s while travelling in the Philippines I was very fortunate to meet Roberto Villanueva – who was a remarkably interesting gentleman. His work and ideas have come to fruition and have made complete sense to me over the last few weeks. A journey I needed to explore and discover for myself. I hope that you enjoy the work I will be uploading and want to add a special thank you to John – Pryere – for his understanding, patience and tolerance in taking photographs in temperatures below 0. What we do for the love of art and creativity. A transient moment that is here today and gone tomorrow. A photographic image is the only remains of its existence. I dedicate this whole series to – Roberto Villanueva, a man proud of his cultural background, and full of passion for his traditions and beliefs. He too believed in the power of Spirit. His Ephemeral Installations are wonderful examples of this. Music – Sitti Navarro 4th February 2009
I thought of Thee, My Partner and My Guide, / As being past away. / Vain sympathies! / For backward, Duddon! / As I cast my eyes, / I see what was, and is, and will abide; / Still glides the Stream, and shall not cease to glide; / The Form remains, / The Function never dies; / While we, the brave, the mighty, and the wise, / We Men, who in our morn of youth defied / The elements, must vanish; / Be it so! / Enough, if something from our hands have power / To live, and act, and serve the future hour; / And if, as toward the silent tomb we go, / Through love, through hope, and faith’s transcendent dower, / We feel that we are greater than we know. This is the first photograph I am uploading using a totally new technique. An experiment really, but one which I am enjoying immensely. Pryere – is kindly taking the photographs of this new series, for which I thank him. I would also like to mention Stephen Russell – Lacy who writes….For when the love of self no longer rules our hearts, then we rise above our worries concerning the transient things of the world.
