An ongoing display of the casualties in Iraq to protest against the war in Iraq, and increase the public awareness regarding the military and political fallout of staying there. Each Sunday morning thousands of crosses, as the number of the fallen, for that day, are placed in the sand and volunteers are providing the public with up to the moment information on casualties plus individual stories on the fallen. The Dutch mp Geert Wilders was talking several months via various media about his short movie Fitna. In this movie – that he did put on line via YouTube – he wants to proof that the Koran is an evil book that should be forbidden, at least parts of it. / Untill then nobody had seen this movie, but it is was often subject of discussion amongst other members of parlement, in newspapers and on tv. There were already streetprotests in some Islamitic countries and the Dutch government was finding a way to hold this movie for viewing. For sure the Dutch government declares not to share the vision of Geert Wilders. They are scared for the possible consequencies, but mister Wilders has explained it is a correct movie, he has the right for freedom of speech and he wants to go on with this project, at a price if necessary. / The internetprovider where his site for viewing was hosted was blocked untill they had seen the content and untill extra payments were made because of the huge traffic they expected. After viewing it, its just childish cut-and-paste work with images/statements we already know, he is just pretending that Islamitic culture can lead to extremism, insulting many people who are staying far away from that intention. / Since the Dutch cineast Theo van Gogh was murdered (2004) in Amsterdam, Wilders is protected and escorted by police and bodyguards. Herewith my visual comment to his step. In my zazzle shop you can find the same design showed on different models, colours and the backside printed with logo and instruction. Plus they print larger and their quality of printing is very good! And some others…

This is an original linoleum print that I created for the Art Of Resistance Conference in Seattle, Washington, 2005. Leading up to the Iraq war the then Pope John Paul voiced his opposition to the war. I am not Catholic so I did not regard the Pope in any way yet I did respect him for opposing the war which of course put him directly against the Bush Administration effort of lies and deceit. Unfortunately, he conveniently died before he could a mass the whole of the Catholic Nation against the immoral war. Thus was this image inspired.

by LetThemEatArtOk, I know it’s an ‘heart’, but I think it looks more like a ‘spade’, which is rather apt for a Purple Heart, as whenever you gamble with lives (as in war) someone invariably is dealt the “dead man’s hand”.
