  • A section from Arlington West. An ongoing display of the casualties in Iraq to protest against the war in Iraq, and increase the public awareness regarding the military and political fallout of staying there. Each Sunday morning thousands of crosses, as the number of the fallen, for that day, are placed in the sand and volunteers are providing the public with up to the moment information on casualties plus individual stories on the fallen. This image was taken at memorial day 2007 as a tribute and memorial and as a cry for peace… Digitally manipulated image. • A little background on the inspiration for this. There is this religious group in america called the Westboro Baptist Church and they are insane. they have a website and its called godhatesfags.com they go around protesting at soldiers funerals saying that they died because america supports rights to gay people. Most recently they have pledged to protest at Heath Ledger’s funeral and at any memorial services for him simply because of his portrayal of a homosexual in Brokeback mountain.. there is a ton of info on this group, and you need not go any further than simply going to their website to understand the extent of their craziness, but be my guest and research further if you wish. anyway it all pissed me off to a point where I needed to vent it out in the most positive way that I could, so i did this design as my personal protest to their bull.

  • just feeling a little frustrated…

  • Our society’s addiction to oil and oil based products is threatening the human race. Corporate greed is compromising human rights and the environment. Things must change before it’s too late. This concept is designed to quickly communicate the relationship between oil consumption and human suffering. The image of a hand gun and the use of the colour red represents blood and human suffering. The fuel pump nozzle and use of black represents oil and petrol consumption. The link between the two items is the ‘trigger’, each of which is designed to be levered by the human finger.

  • A masked protester in the city

  • this past sunday was riding in cherokee, north carolina with a couple of other photogs, as we were passing this constuction area, we were talking about it was a shame of how they tore up the land to build yet another complex. / we happened to see three elk, of course had to get out and shoot. while we were shooting this buck started sparring with this pvc pipe, throwing it up in air, charging it alittle bit with it’s antlers, and stomping. of course while shooting this, i thought of the title for the shot, seemed fitting to the attitude of that buck elk, of which i have to agree with

San Francisco Police with lone protester ..2007. This chap had a LCD screen on his chest hooked up to a battery at his feet. The BART police had spoken to him however they called the SFPD in to ask him to leave. I think he was protesting in front of the office for a large fast food chain.

  • blood drips from the star of the Peoples’ Liberation Army, symbolising the shed blod of Tibetan refugees (see my writing “evidence”). By way of description and prompted by Cayannagirl, the symbols in the centre of the star are “ba-yi” and can be explained thus: the first character is “8”. This equates to August. The second one is “1” (seen if you look at the image sideways). This refers to the first of August, the date of the Nanchung uprising of 1927 which was the first big battle of the Chinese Civil War.

  • During a relatively peaceful 2002 protest against the World Bank in Washington, D.C., anti-war demonstrators began to change the situational climate of the march. Tensions between protesters and police, who were expecting a violent demonstration, began to rise. Police began to arrest everyone that they managed to surround inside Pershing Park, guilty, as well as innocent bystanders alike. In relative anticipation of the police’s reaction, these young protesters brought bandannas to not only hide their identities, but to shield them from pepper spray and CS gas. • song of silent protest
    by Jordan Busson

too long have i let silence into my heart / too long has it dwelt in its dark and narrow house

i think most people will be able to relate to this, each in their own and personal way. / too often we let silence into our hearts, when we should be letting our voice free. / too often we hide our own light, so that the light of others may shine brighter, not considering our own loss. we all have talents. we all have voices. / now we must take that step forward into the light, and show the world that we all have a voice. / 27 august 2009.

  • September 29th was a black day on the bubble for a lot of people. On that day, the voice of truth and reason failed on RB and was banished irrevocably. Helen Bascom had her account deleted without opportunity to defend or explain. To those who don’t know her, Helen is one of the longest standing members of this site, an amazing artist and writer and a passionate lobbyist for change for the better in this world. I have never met a single human being with such grit and determination, such passion, such COMPASSION, and such integrity…... She was the voice of reason and conscience and constantly spoke out to address issues that were unfair and injust in not only her country but across the planet. Sure she was outspoken, determined, ballsy, and flew in the face of convention when she felt “convention” was unacceptable. But she never missed an opportunity to speak out, stand up, or defend the underdog or those who had been treated unfairly. For this, Helen was very controversial, but love her or dislike her, you had to admit, her passion and energy were overwhelming and admirable and she always fought unwaveringly for what she believed in. I use the past tense “was” here because on redbubble, it appears that the subject of Helen is past. However Helen WAS all these things and Helen still IS ! And I intend to keep the spirit of what Helen stood for on RB alive. On top of these things, she is a fine human being, and my friend. I respect and admire her. And if I do nothing else here, I will speak out about this in her defence, while she is unable to. My sense of fairplay dictates that if I don’t delete my account at Redbubble then I must stay here and continue the fight FOR HER. This T Shirt is one way I can protest about Helen’s treatment here on the bubble and show all those who take pleasure in her departure, that those of us who can see past their petty egos and opinions outnumber them by far, and we will continue to fight for the truth and focus on what really matters.
