One of the blessings of agoraphobia – and yes, there are a few – is that it gifts you with a finely tuned awareness of safe spaces. Watching life pass by my porch was both a tantalising and yet devastating reminder of what I was unable to embrace. I couldn’t leave my house for an appallingly long time, and I’m still dealing with the intimacy that encompasses reconnecting with people. I still have a lot to learn.

I watched the news this morning and felt that I needed to voice my protest.

Oil Painting inspired by my days as a volunteer firefighter. Something we face every Summer in Australia. In some areas you can live in constant fear of the threat of fire. Not sure if I’ve finished this one yet, but hey, I’ll give it a run. Two of the prime objectives of a fire fighting organisation is to protect life and protect property. Here the characters are endeavouring to do both without a thought that they are putting their own lives at risk. *ALL PROFITS FROM THIS WORK WILL BE DONATED TO VICTORIAN BUSHFIRE APPEAL**

This yellow rumped warbler guards the suet log as vigilantly as a combative little hummingbird guards the nectar feeder. He has a distinctive “tsk tsk” call that announces his coming so it’s never a surprise when he shows up. This is the first year I’ve been privileged to see warblers at the feeders. I give John Radosevich credit for that because of his peanut butter suet recipe which is a big hit with the warblers. They can’t get enough of it! In addition to the yellow rumped warblers, I’ve seen pine warblers and yellow warblers, all enjoying the treats. Still no woodpeckers, though. Maybe one day they’ll come closer . . .
