Taken in Aranjuez, a little town approximately 45 minutes outside of Madrid. I had just completed my visit of the Palacio Real and was walking aimlessly through this sleepy town. I noticed from afar that there was a gathering at the Real Iglesia de San Antonio, which is preceded by an enormous square and presumed it was a wedding. From that distance it was difficult to tell. It was only when I was making my way back towards the train station that I actually visited the site of this beautiful church and realized that the rose petals, rice and confetti were still on the stoop. The smell of rose petals was absolutely beautiful. Such a shame that so many churches no longer allow you to throw rose petals or rice because of the hassle of clean up. Young lovers used to meet on this bench and sit and look at the view. They told me this before they were married. That bench is the place where they realised they were in love and the place where he proposed.

This is an idea I have for an “art on the street” exhibition. It seems to me that art tends to find its way into the prettier.. but you don’t see art very often in red brick land. If Banksy can take graffiti art into the galleries then I claim “HIS” walls for an exhibition! The wall is the typical red brick of this area. This is the original work“ Merci est bon nuit !

I thought it about time I gave you all a rest from the “Wind in the Willows”, so here’s something completely different – thank you Monty Python. I did this as a cover for my Arthurian themed personal project – had ambitions of producing a folio of prints in book form then found out the price of print and bind…! The paper, I can no longer remember its exact weight,(or proper name) is a form of close grained, heavy cartridge used in the printing and publishing industry for your more up -market posters and books with lots of reproductions…probably high in acid, so my image will eventually crumble to dust…ah, the price one pays for their art…should have used a nice Fabriano paper instead, but you buy what you can afford at the time and some images just can’t wait for your wallet, they must be put down while they are fresh and clear in the mind’s eye.

Concept work.. “If Banksy can take graffiti into the galleries then.. “ I’d love to just go some place and do this.. but I’m not quite in my teens. In the past painter’s would often pass the work on to a team of apprentices so if any young fearless “urban warriors” fancy giving it ago I would consider giving permission for the design to be used. I like the idea of these pure organic “bubble” forms emerging from within the grungy urban environment. Based on a photograph of an old advertising hoarding on Spring Garden St, Lancaster.
