Ideally you will be… / prepared to give it a go and try something different or even a bit unflattering based in Melbourne, Australia look completely normal or utterly unusual or anything in between accept red wine, love and photos as currency I take my responsibility as a photographer seriously. Prior to a shoot I will talk to you about my ideas, what I want you to do, how I want you and the whole image to look and discuss different options. I aim to create an art piece that best utilizes your particular look and attitude whatever that may be. If you don’t look like a typical model, brilliant. I do not shoot underage models without a parent in attendance and encourage all models to bring a chaperon or friend to shoots. I always encourage models to leave their mobile phones switched on, take regular breaks, tell someone where we will be shooting and when they can be expected home. I provide examples of my work, and models I have worked with previously will happily attest to my not being a scam artist or psycho. joobrien.com@gmail.com EDIT>> Yes, this post was made last year but I am still keen to hear from prospective models :)

I often perceive human features in nature. We all are capable of / developing our visual acuity the more we look at nature’s beautiful creations displayed on the bark of trees, flowers, leaves, rocks, water etc. These two leaves live very close to the leaf ladies in my portfolio that are part of their tribe. displaying magnificent colors in their faces. I enhanced the texture and color to accentuate these multi-colored leaves that had fallen from a tree creating a wonderful abstract composition. The top leaf presents different images when viewed as a profile or full face that reminds me of a puppy or a heart etc…. The imagery within the larger leaf and the surrounding environment offer a lot of material to project your unique perceptions. As usual the more I look the more I see. I just saw a blue alien on the left behind the large leaf. I took this photograph with a Macro lens to enhance the detail of the magnificent colors in their faces. The members of this leaf tribe live in a very colorful garden on the hill behind my house so I can visit / them, especially in autumn and winter when they fall from the trees. /
This viola has a happy face! It sprang up from seed several years after the original plant had died.
Laying on this floor in this abandoned cinema was this ancient telephone. I don’t know why but telephones seem to be one of the things that i always take shots of while I’m walking round one of these derelict places taking photographs. I wonder how long since this thing has heard a human voice, longer than it is since the site closure i would imagine / !

for those like me who have a psychic talent , there is no better form of transport than astral projection , where you can go anywhere whilst holding on to your golden rope whilst in a state of subconciousness ! travel as we know it pales into insignificance compared to flying the astral plane !
This poster is a map of Australia. It’s a scatter graph of 9276 Australian post codes. “Up” isn’t north, it’s longitude. Cheers to Ashul at Eduka for the latitude/longitude data.
Blah blah you’ve seen it before.

it might be just the thing to wear your heart on your sleeve but it’s probably even better to wear your ninja on your heart…. another in a series of slide projection images from way back when sometime in the eighties…. / . /
The more uncooperative my mountain goats become, the more I look to my smaller critters for inspiration. I had my COYOTE PROJECT in the winter, and now I have my PIKA PROJECT for the rest of the summer. Since I have way too many pika perched on a rock images, I decided to focus (pun intended) on behavioral shots of pikas – something a little different and a little more dynamic. And, of course, my go-to pika is Larry the Pika. Those of you familiar with Larry know that he lives in a talus field around 14,000ft. Larry has been a family friend for years – my son even gave him the nickname Larry. In this image, Larry has collected a mouthful of plant matter and is on his way back to his burrow – he stopped briefly on a rock (where I had pre-focused the lens in hopes that he would do just that), and just as quickly resumed his dash back to the burrow. It helps to have fast reflexes if you want to photograph pikas. Standard Pika Boilerplate / Unlike their alpine cousins, the marmots (who hibernate away the winter months), pikas are awake and active all winter long – and at their altitude in the alpine zone, winter can be a long time. To survive their winters, pikas have to gather food to have enough to eat. They start by running out into the talus field to gather mouthfuls of grass, plants, flowers, and thistles. They then pile all the plant matter into tiny little hay bales to dry in the sun. Once it’s dried, they carry the little hay bales into their burrows where they store it and use it for food, bedding, and insulation. If they don’t gather enough food, they don’t survive the winter. Despite weighing only about 6 ounces themselves, pikas must gather in excess of 50 pounds of plant matter for the coming winter. That’s a LOT of plant matter for a little critter to gather. In pika communities, it’s not uncommon for pikas to try to make off with a neighbors hay bale. When caught, this can lead to a noisy little dispute between the pikas. When they spot a predator or potential danger (or if you get too close to their little hay bales), they emit a surprisingly loud EEENK. They also keep themselves in harm’s way to alert their neighbors. It’s more common to hear pikas than see them. Pikas, and marmots to a lesser extent, are considered at risk species due to climate change and global warming. They live on what is essentially a cold island. They are unable to migrate to different locations, as doing so would require them to cross long stretches of excessively hot ground. Their only alternative is to climb higher and higher up the mountain, and there’s only so much mountain to climb. Most pikas spend their entire lives in a half-mile radius. It’s estimated that pikas cannot survive in temps higher than 75F for more than a few hours. / Kodak CX7530 / / Project Arizona / / Over two years ago I started my “photographic career” in the state of Arizona. I had many photos from there up on my bubblesite and when I moved here to WV I then had a mixture of the two states. I didn’t feel, however, that if I were going to try and market to WV magazines, tourist centers and local galleries that my AZ stuff should remain up and so I removed it. I have second guessed that decision ever since I clicked on the “Yes I’m Sure” button. So I asked my FB friends if I should put some back up on RB and I received a resounding “YES!!!”. Starting sometime this week I will be re-uploading a selection of my AZ photos for every one’s enjoying pleasure. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Cheers ~Levi / / Mount Lemmon, AZ
