  • this past sunday was riding in cherokee, north carolina with a couple of other photogs, as we were passing this constuction area, we were talking about it was a shame of how they tore up the land to build yet another complex. / we happened to see three elk, of course had to get out and shoot. while we were shooting this buck started sparring with this pvc pipe, throwing it up in air, charging it alittle bit with it’s antlers, and stomping. of course while shooting this, i thought of the title for the shot, seemed fitting to the attitude of that buck elk, of which i have to agree with

  • Is it ever possible to / regain that state of / innocent eye / of our early childhood? To break the barriers / imposed on our hearts / through acculturation / and by the workings of / our overly-defensive / and narcissistic mind? How would one ever / find out? To all those who love / so much and perhaps / too much their, and only their / brains, I’m saying: / Get a Life! / Let me repeat: / Get a Life! Honestly. Fortunately (or not), perhaps none of those that are almost exclusively into “brains” will ever see this message as they most likely “don’t touch art”, as art never touches them. / —-—-— Progression to Childhood was featured in ImageWriting group in July 2009. —-—-— /

  • The Spirit of Washington dinner train operated for 15 years out of Renton, WA, with trips heading from Renton to Woodinville and back, and then 10 months out of Tacoma, with trips from there to Lake Kapowsin near Mount Rainier. On October 29, 2007 the operators of the dinner train announced that they would be shutting down. / In 1993, trips headed from a restored depot Burnett Station on Burnett Avenue in Renton to the Columbia Winery in Woodinville and back. In the summer of 2007, the train was forced to change locations when the owners of the Woodinville Subdivision, BNSF Railway, would not extend their contract. BNSF Railway allowed King County to move forward with improvements on I-405, which broke the link between Woodinville and Renton. / Although the operators had wished to move the train to run between Woodinville and Snohomish, negotiations broke down, causing the train to relocate to Tacoma. It operated from August 3, 2007 until October 28 with Tacoma as the starting point. Due to poor ticket sales after the move to Tacoma, the owners decided to pull the pilot project and close the train down. It is being stored in Clark County, Washington where it will remain indefinitely. We were fortunate to ride and dine in this beautiful train in April 2007, while it still ran from Renton to Woodinville. We celebrated 2 of my nephews’ birthdays, who absolutely adore trains (Thomas the Train inspired). We are happy to have experienced this adventure prior to “progress” forcing its services out of business. / Photograph is as is shot of train, prior to our dining experience ;) for Happy Haven Challenge…planes, trains and automobiles Trains and winter rains by Enya

For those who are curious about such things, I’ve started taking pictures of my artworks as they are in progress, so one can see the stages of development. First up is “Ursa”, a mixed media piece measuring 11×15 inches. First to the drawing board (literally) for a preparatory sketch: Then I start to make the initial colorization. I generally start with the face first: Harley Cat is apparently appalled at the direction this new artwork is taking. Or he’s just very tired. Final stages: Scan of the final image: Next up is my latest piece, “Three Ravens”, which measures 25×19 inches. The initial sketch with the first bird colorized and all the “halos” painted in with gold acrylics: I used blue pastel paper to make the color on the ravens “pop” more: / Another raven comes to life: / Starting in on the background with it’s stylized wheat field: / / The final artwork: / Professional photo: / And finally a sneak peak at a new piece I started last night, called “The Serpent Tree”, which is inspired by the various world tree / tree of life myths.
