  • This is my little salute to my favorite programming language, expressed as a symbol one of the things I love about Ruby’s syntax.

  • This designs says “I’m A Mac” and has the 3 colored buttons below the text. If you’re a proud Mac User you should get a t-shirt that says “I’m A Mac”. Show your Mac Pride.

  • Abode Photo Shoplifter / Powerful design tool when used with Google. / Widely available as a pirate download. For all of us worried about having our work lifted.

  • I was playing around with binary for another idea I have I thought this would be the perfect word to be written in that format. Of course, I had to use system font.

  • An experiment with the idea of a self-documenting t-shirt. The design contains a simple plot of a Mandelbrot Set which is overlaid with the ruby code that was used to produce it. The code itself emits a monochrome PBM file which I then converted into a PNG and then used Photoshop Elements to merge it with the code that produced it. Ideally, the ultimate version of the t-shirt would be the one that contained the code that produces a finished PNG that can simply be uploaded to RedBubble with no manual fiddling. All in good time…

  • TUTORIAL:Add a Slide show to your Redbubble Profile/Bubblesite

Adding a slide show to redbubble Ok not really a slide show but it is very close, It’s an animated gif image. / You can see one My Bubblesite These images can also be linked / Doing this will require you to have software that can make an animated gif image. / And of coarse I know of a free software program that can be used and this tutorial will explain how to do this using this free software. The free software is called / unfreeze and you can Get it here / Once downloaded and installed on your / computer we are ready to go. The first step is to get the images you want to include in your slide show, I am going to use my redbubble images set in frames for my bubblesite homepage. Sign-in to your redbubble account Click “My Bubble” then “Art” find the image you want to include and click the “show public view” Now click the “buy/preview” button / Select the product format you want to use Card, Laminated print, etc.. Then save the image to your computer. Internet Explorer users “Right Click” the image and select “Save Picture As” / Firefox users “Right Click” and select “Save image as” / And choose a location on your PC where you can find it easily. / You can use as many images as you want, but remember you want them to visit your gallery so keep the number of images to a minimum. / I’m going to use 8 images for now. / You can re size your images if you like the Unfreeze software will resize your images to fit in a 375 pixels(high) X 360 pixels(wide) box but the software will not center the image. For those that want their images centered in the box, Use your photo software to edit the images / The software program (unfreeze) that I recommended above requires the images to be in gif format. Doing this in your photo software may be different than mine. But I will open the image in my photo software “Paint.net” and then click the “Save as” option and change the format (type) to gif ( Graphics Interchange Format). They will be saved in the same folder that I put the ones I downloaded from the bubble. Once the images are in the gif format. We are ready to create the animated gif (slideshow) Open the folder where your gif images are located Start “unfreeze” a small window will appear / Drag your images into the white window Then set the delay on the right, I used 60, Make sure the “Loop animation” box is checked Now click the “Make Animated Gif” button Give it a name and Click “Save” To make the images change slower add more than one of the same file The image that I created here was made using three copies of the same image, delay set to 90 / Example: drag and drop “image1.gif”,then do it again drag and drop “image1.gif “ This one has four of the same images and delay set to 60 Now the image can be uploaded to a web site, since Redbubble does not support this file type. You can use “Dropbox” / which is a free file store, share, sync software Get it Here it allows you to have 2 gig of file storage for free. Plus when I change the slide show gif I just created dropbox will take care of the rest. / So changing my slide show is as easy as making a new one and saving it using the same location and name on my pc as the one I’m using now. / Now Insert the new image on your bubblesite or profile / Use the image location (web address, web url) with a ! before and after the image location / For more on Linking images etc. see this post How to Customize Redbubble / And your done. / You can also include these in your description boxes these have been reduced in size A great way to promote your calendars on your bubblesite remember these images can be linked to the buy page. / Happy Bubbling / Dan / Get the Firefox and Internet Explorer Tool bar for Redbubble Here / See more info See all my How-to’s Here Includes “Framed image on Bubblesite home page”, “Adding Calendars to your bubblesite”, “feedjit Live Traffic Feed”, “Using tags on Redbubble”, “Add a visitor counter to your bubblesite or profile page” and More © D R Moore This written work cannot be reproduced or posted on the web without my written permission

There are many reasons for using tags 1. Creating links to make it easier for your visitors to find what they want / 2. Knowing what images are in what group / 3. Help your visitors find what they want faster. For keeping track of what images are in what group, I’ve found that the easiest way to do this is by Tagging the image with the group name. Then making a bookmark for easy access to Group lists, This method will also show new images as long as you add the tag when you enter the image to a group. / To add tags to images Click your “art” button or Here , Then next to the image click “edit”, The tag box is below the Description box. / Tag Example: All images that I’ve submitted to the Group “Animal Kingdom” , I’ve added the following tag “animal kingdom” remember to separate the tags with a comma ( , ) / Search Example:The following will work for all users as long as you put your username, and tag in the places indicated in bold below / http://www.redbubble.com/people/yourusername/art/everything/tags/tagname / Once you get the results Bookmark it, Now the next time you try to remember what images you have in a group or have I reached the group limit you can click the bookmark and see what images are in that group and how many. / Bonus: Using the links from above to organize your images for visitors, Link an Image or text with the Links you created above. / You can see some of your links using tags by clicking your username in the top right hand side of any redbubble page (this takes you to your public profile page) / then click Art, Calendar, or T-Shirts then on the next page on the left there are text links with the tags that you have added to your work. / ( if your not sure how to do this See this post Creating Links Etc…on redbubble ) EXAMPLES: / Linked text "Birds":http://www.redbubble.com/people/yourusername/art/everything/tags/tagname / Birds / Linked image / !www.imageishere.jpg!:http://www.redbubble.com/people/yourusername/art/everything/tags/tagname / You can click the link below, It will open in redbubble it won’t give you any results but then you can then change the username in the address bar click “go” or just hit enter bookmark the result or add it to your “favorites” for future tag making . / http://www.redbubble.com/people/yourusername/art/everything/tags/tagname How to tag your journals / writings The above method does not work for my journls or writings / Example:I have a few How-to’s in the How to Redbubble group and I’ve tagged them with”htrb” So if i create a tag like above it would be / http://www.redbubble.com/people/envelope150/art/everything/tags/htrb / unfortunately the results give me a blank page (click the link above if you don’t believe me) / Here is how we can get the results we need (want). / See Here http://www.redbubble.com/search/envelope150%20htrb/journals / If you have a lot of writings it might be a good idea to tag these for many reasons. 1. Keeping track of what groups they are in / 2. Easy reference for other bubble members / 3. sorting by topic / 4. and many more…. I will try and explain the easiest way to do this and hopefully make it as painless as possible. / I will explain how I created the above results for my How to journals / Fist and most important tag all your work with your username / Step 1. Tag the journal I’m using “htrb” / Step2. Make a link to the list of journals with this tag / To do this we will need to use the search box / Enter your username and tag “click Search” I’m going to enter envelope150 htrb / Step 4. When you get to the results page copy the address from the address bar or bookmark it. / If your tags are fresh give it a little time for redbubble servers to catch up(up to 10-min) / Now you can use the address to make links to your journals for easy reference or group tracking. / I high lighted my username and tag below in bold, When copying the results you will have the %20 where the space is suppose to be. http://www.redbubble.com/search/envelope150%20htrb/ Click Here to see the results if you like Using the method above to create links for your images adds the ability to use more than one tag / Example: If I want to make a link to my osprey(bird) images I would use the search box and enter envelope150 bird osprey click “search” and I get this / http://www.redbubble.com/search/envelope150%20birds%20osprey only my images that include the 3 tags will show up / This method would be good for the Flower Lovers to separate their Flowers images not only by type of flower but color as well. Using tags like username flowers roses red and then searching those tags to make a link to their “My Red Roses Collection”. / Hope this tutorial helps in getting you started in fully customizing or just organizing your bubble profile. Bonus Tip To make a text box appear when someone hovers over a link add text in (these) like below "Landscapes(View my Landscape Collection)":http://www.redbubble.com/people/yourusername/art/everything/tags/tagname / See how it works below just place your mouse pointer on the link but do not click it / Landscapes / Happy Bubbling / Dan / Get the Firefox and Internet Explorer Tool bar for Redbubble Here / See more info See all my How-to’s Here Includes “Framed image on Bubblesite home page”, “Adding Calendars to your bubblesite”, “feedjit Live Traffic Feed”, “Using tags on Redbubble”, “Add a visitor counter to your bubblesite or profile page” and More © D R Moore This written work cannot be reproduced or posted on the web without my written permission

To add a calendar to your bubblesite is not in the bubble site set-up or the mange gallery as of yet. I look forward to when this will be incorporated into the Manage Gallery section for our bubblesites. / So the only way to advertise our Calendars is to give them a link to the right direction to view our calendars. / There are many ways to do this on redbubble / You may simply add the calendar covers to your bubblesite home page Here is one from my collection to get the image url it is the same process as used before. / If you missed it before Click Here for How-to Click “My Bubble” then “Calendars” or Click Here / Next Right click the cover image and copy the image url / Then just place the image in you description with a link to the buy/previw page To get the link without the comments etc. Right click the Buy/preview button then select (In FireFox) “copy the link location” with Internet Explorer select “Copy Shortcut” paste it right after your image location / Example for the image above I used the below / !http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/calendars/page:0/product:calendar/size:small/view:preview/1709263-5-d-r-moore.jpg!:http://www.redbubble.com/products/configure/5781572 / Pages: To select a different page change the number in bold above / Like this /page:1/ will display the first page of your calendar and so on. / Sizes: Change the size by changing size:small to size:medium Another option would be to make a slide show using your calendar images I’ve created three different sizes For my tutorial on Adding a slide show to redbubble See Here Happy Bubbling / Dan / Get the Firefox and Internet Explorer Tool bar for Redbubble Here / See more info See all my How-to’s Here Includes “Framed image on Bubblesite home page”, “Adding Calendars to your bubblesite”, “feedjit Live Traffic Feed”, “Using tags on Redbubble”, “Add a visitor counter to your bubblesite or profile page” and More © D R Moore This written work cannot be reproduced or posted on the web without my written permission

  • FIRST THING: IMPORTANT!!! The young man who created this program in Panama needs more money to continue to develop Incendia for us to use. We use it now as a free beta download and that has gotten this incredible program up and running well. But it needs refinement to prevent it from crashing and having other minor problems. That requires money or the creator has to work elsewhere and time to spend developing is lost. I for one believe that my using this free program to try to make money for myself obligates me to at least make a contribution towards using it for free up until now (and maybe very inexpensive in the future). Not only that, I’m asking and hoping to see products directly from using this program tho never asked for a dime for its commercial use. Please visit the Incendia site and make a donation. You’ll be a free upgrade for your efforts and the developer of this awesome little program will be able to keep working out the kinks before making it public in a final stage. Time to do what you can if you love Incendia or fractals in general. Thanks! I gave up on the rendering of this amazing fractal, knowing I could do the final bit of cleaning up with PhotoShop Elements 3. One day I’ll get a dedicated machine that can just do the job for however long it takes and I won’t keep peeking at it like a cake in the oven. LOL! This one came out almost exactly as I wanted it to but it still had the red halo from incomplete rendering so I just used the BACKGROUND ERASER and nuked everything that wasn’t black already. PS did such a fantastic job of it that it took less than 60 seconds to get it perfect and I’ve never used the tool before. Of course, I never read the 300 page 3rd party instruction book either so nothing new there. :-D This creation is about 95% Incendia working on its own. I changed the colours almost randomly, just aiming for bright contrasting ones and I tweaked the shape about 2%. It’s name simply “Incendia” exactly for that reason: this fractal was “right out of the box” and a 3D example of the sheer glory of this unfinished program. I’m suggesting you go ahead and get itnow, for free, even if you don’t install it. I think this program is so good it will cost a lot when it is finished. I’m sure it’s worth it even as it is now. If this fractal doesn’t ‘sell you’, the upcoming ones just might. I’m now planning to do some quick ones straight out of the programming that’s already there: basically nothing but the raw program’s presets. There’s no learning curve to do this and, of course, there’s precious little originality. But Incendia starts out more original than anything else I’ve seen. I think its presets are worth showing off! Graciously featured in the group A Fractal Energy Passion with my thanks! :-D

  • FRACTAL SAFETY NET Fractal “Safety Net” was created out of Chaos with the Quaternion Julia Set, based on five conditions. With special effects rendered in skylight, I then proceeded to apply a little ambience, then I closed the program out and re-opened the image a second time in Photoshop. Lighting, luminosity, and colors were now added, along with embossing. After a few more adjustments with brightness and contrast, Fractal “Safety Net” was now complete. I do hope you like it!!

  • With the global economy caught in the gravity of the financial crisis, it’s sad that programs like the Constellation Project will have a long wait before anything truly gets off the ground. / / NASA’s Constellation Project is set up to finish the International Space Station, retire the Shuttle Fleet and build a whole new fleet of space vehicles which will take us back to the Moon, then Mars and then the places beyond. / / But with Congressional limitations and funding cutbacks due to the financial crisis, as well as being stuck with a complicated and restrictive “go as you pay” finance structure it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any groundbreaking manned space flights in the naughties. / / This image represents a fleeting memory of a childhood dream to see man explore our planets and then the stars beyond and it’s one of the few things as a child I looked up to America for. / / The universe is a big place and we’re yet to make it out of our solar system but without programs like the Constellation Project, man may never ever get to make another giant leap. / / DETAIL / / / /

  • Male Lion The lion (Panthera leo) is a member of the family Felidae and one of four big cats in the genus Panthera. With some males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions currently exist in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia with a critically endangered remnant population in northwest India, having disappeared from North Africa, the Middle East, and Western Asia in historic times. Until the late Pleistocene (about 10,000 years ago), the lion was the most widespread large land mammal beside humans. They were found in most of Africa, much of Eurasia from western Europe to India and, in the Americas, from the Yukon to Peru. Should they survive the rigors of cubhood, lionesses in secure habitat, such as national parks, frequently reach an age of 12–14 years whereas male lions seldom live for longer than 8 years. However, there are records of lionesses living for up to 20 years in the wild. In captivity both male and female lions can live for over 20 years. They typically inhabit savanna and grassland, although they may take to bush and forest. Lions are unusually social compared to other cats. A pride of lions consists of related females and offspring and a small number of adult males. Groups of female lions typically hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The lion is an apex and keystone predator, although they will resort to scavenging if the opportunity arises. While lions, in general, do not selectively hunt humans, some have been known to become man-eaters and seek human prey. The lion is a vulnerable species, having seen a possibly irreversible population decline of 30 to 50 percent over the past two decades in its African range; populations are untenable outside designated reserves and national parks. Although the cause of the decline is not well understood, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are currently the greatest causes of concern. Lions have been kept in menageries since Roman times and have been a key species sought after and exhibited in zoos the world over since the late eighteenth century. Zoos are cooperating worldwide in breeding programs for the endangered Asiatic subspecies. The male lion is highly distinctive and is easily recognized by its mane. The lion, particularly the face of the male, is one of the most widely recognized animal symbols in human culture. “The King’s Portrait ….... ” was featured in Live, Love, Dream

The following applications are free: / .. / G.I.M.P. The GNU Image Manipulation Program has a lot of the features found on high-end commercial photo editors such as Adobe’s Photoshop. It’s perhaps the best and most featured of the free image editors available, and as such will enable many artists on a budget to reach their potential. It’s FREE, people! / .. / Paint.NET A good basic image editor. Stable (at least on my systems). REQUIRES .NET Framework. (read the requirements) / .. / RealWorld Paint.COM A very basic, but competent editor. They have paid apps too. / .. / IrfanView “IrfanView is a very fast, small, compact and innovative FREEWARE (for non-commercial use) graphic viewer for Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, XP, 2003 , 2008, Vista, Windows 7.” As recommended by RB’er Frisson . Thank you. / .. / Blender Blender is the free open source 3D content creation suite, available for all major operating systems under the GNU General Public License. I haven’t tried it, but I know others who do use it. Get into 3D for free. / .. / Free AAA 8bf plugins Photoshop plugins that are well worth a look. Created by a fellow named Jim Clatfelter. He has a ‘buzzer’ which renders painterly effects on images. / .. / About.com’s Top 10 Free Photo Editors for Windows Check ‘em out, folks. There are some there I didn’t think of. Topaz Simplify is a Photoshop plugin. Topaz sort of fills the gap left by the demise of BuzzSimplifier (see below). / .. / NeatImage Noise filtration software available as photoshop plugins or a standalone application. I have the pro version of the standalone application which, when I bought it several years ago was around $89. It is perhaps the state of the art noise reduction software available. They did have a fully functional free version of the standalone which was prohibited by licensing requirements from being used for any commercial uses (read for sale images). It was fully functional. If you sell your work, you must pay and register. / .. / Terragen Terragen is a 3d landscape generator capable of stunningly beautiful output. Like most 3d apps, it has a learning curve. From the website: “You are required to register your copy of Terragen if it is for commercial use, as specified in the License Agreement presented to you when you install or first use Terragen. If you only intend to use Terragen personally, on a non-profit basis, registration is optional and you may continue to use the unregistered version of Terragen free of charge.” Registration for Terragen Classic is $100. I wanted this one and never ‘got around’ to buying it – my procrastination has cost me so much over the years…..(sighs…)

A couple of weeks ago we ran a test promotion program. We sent out two e-mails – the first was a generic free shipping e-mail and the second was personalised for an individual artist. About 75 folks from the sales group participated in the program. The two e-mails are shown below: How it worked was we sent the generic e-mail to an artist and they forwarded it on to their contacts. With the personalised e-mail the artist gave us their e-mail lists and we sent the e-mail out for them. Only six folks participated in the personalised e-mail test – as it was a little bit more involved – so I don’t think this is a large enough sample size for us to make any judgements. But the generic e-mail generated some interesting and encouraging results. This e-mail generated 30 sales – so on average half the number of people who participated made a sale. That is a very good conversion rate – especially when one factors in that not all of the testers would have actively forwarded the e-mail. I think shows the potential of members being more involved in promoting their work. We’ve always held that artists are the best promoters of their own work … and this reinforces this view. I think we’ll put more effort into helping people to share and promote their work over the next six to twelve months. What things would encourage you to share your work with a broader audience? - Peter
