With the global economy caught in the gravity of the financial crisis, it’s sad that programs like the Constellation Project will have a long wait before anything truly gets off the ground. / / NASA’s Constellation Project is set up to finish the International Space Station, retire the Shuttle Fleet and build a whole new fleet of space vehicles which will take us back to the Moon, then Mars and then the places beyond. / / But with Congressional limitations and funding cutbacks due to the financial crisis, as well as being stuck with a complicated and restrictive “go as you pay” finance structure it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any groundbreaking manned space flights in the naughties. / / This image represents a fleeting memory of a childhood dream to see man explore our planets and then the stars beyond and it’s one of the few things as a child I looked up to America for. / / The universe is a big place and we’re yet to make it out of our solar system but without programs like the Constellation Project, man may never ever get to make another giant leap. / / DETAIL / / / /

I was playing around with binary for another idea I have I thought this would be the perfect word to be written in that format. Of course, I had to use system font.
An experiment with the idea of a self-documenting t-shirt. The design contains a simple plot of a Mandelbrot Set which is overlaid with the ruby code that was used to produce it. The code itself emits a monochrome PBM file which I then converted into a PNG and then used Photoshop Elements to merge it with the code that produced it. Ideally, the ultimate version of the t-shirt would be the one that contained the code that produces a finished PNG that can simply be uploaded to RedBubble with no manual fiddling. All in good time…
FIRST THING: IMPORTANT!!! The young man who created this program in Panama needs more money to continue to develop Incendia for us to use. We use it now as a free beta download and that has gotten this incredible program up and running well. But it needs refinement to prevent it from crashing and having other minor problems. That requires money or the creator has to work elsewhere and time to spend developing is lost. I for one believe that my using this free program to try to make money for myself obligates me to at least make a contribution towards using it for free up until now (and maybe very inexpensive in the future). Not only that, I’m asking and hoping to see products directly from using this program tho never asked for a dime for its commercial use. Please visit the Incendia site and make a donation. You’ll be a free upgrade for your efforts and the developer of this awesome little program will be able to keep working out the kinks before making it public in a final stage. Time to do what you can if you love Incendia or fractals in general. Thanks! I gave up on the rendering of this amazing fractal, knowing I could do the final bit of cleaning up with PhotoShop Elements 3. One day I’ll get a dedicated machine that can just do the job for however long it takes and I won’t keep peeking at it like a cake in the oven. LOL! This one came out almost exactly as I wanted it to but it still had the red halo from incomplete rendering so I just used the BACKGROUND ERASER and nuked everything that wasn’t black already. PS did such a fantastic job of it that it took less than 60 seconds to get it perfect and I’ve never used the tool before. Of course, I never read the 300 page 3rd party instruction book either so nothing new there. :-D This creation is about 95% Incendia working on its own. I changed the colours almost randomly, just aiming for bright contrasting ones and I tweaked the shape about 2%. It’s name simply “Incendia” exactly for that reason: this fractal was “right out of the box” and a 3D example of the sheer glory of this unfinished program. I’m suggesting you go ahead and get itnow, for free, even if you don’t install it. I think this program is so good it will cost a lot when it is finished. I’m sure it’s worth it even as it is now. If this fractal doesn’t ‘sell you’, the upcoming ones just might. I’m now planning to do some quick ones straight out of the programming that’s already there: basically nothing but the raw program’s presets. There’s no learning curve to do this and, of course, there’s precious little originality. But Incendia starts out more original than anything else I’ve seen. I think its presets are worth showing off! Graciously featured in the group A Fractal Energy Passion with my thanks! :-D

We’re the Nerd people. Our life goes around the binary system: yes/no, true/false. Our pet is the PC, we stay all the time with it. Our relationship is so great, better than Rin Tin Tin or Flipper . We have to admit it: sometime our close relationship with what you call “machines” makes us hard to communicate with other human being. But it’s not our fault, it’s only because our algorithms can’t adapt very well to the human society chaos. If the communication doesn’t work it’s a serious problem, we know that, indeed we go in panic when our internet connection goes down. There is nothing more destabilizing than not to be connected. For this reasons maybe you think that we’re cold like our silicon friends, but if you go beyond the 0 and 1 made firewall you can find a heart that beats and bleeds. So, please, love us :) All My Series: /

Hey all, / Below are a list of easy keyboard commands for Photoshop. I’m using a regular PC (Windows) but if you use a mac, all of the controls will be different…and because I don’t have a Mac within reach, I can’t get the commands for that. Sorry Mac users! Control + N = Opening a New Canvas / Control + O = Opening a new project from a different file (such as a photo) / Control + Z = Undo very last action; nothing past that. / Control + Alt + Z = Undo past actions; infinite. / Control + Shift + Z = Redo an action (that is, if you have already undone an action.) / Control + Shift + F = Fade… (This is a VERY useful tool that I just discovered about 2 minutes ago…For example, you draw something a little too light…do this command then you can make the brush stroke’s opacity darker! Again, VERY useful!) / Control + X = Cut / Control + C = Copy / Control + V = Paste / Control + Shift + V = Paste Into (Don’t know exactly what this does for sure yet but, apparently it’s useful?) / Control + I = Invert (makes a negative [or positive] of the image selected) / Control + A = Selects the whole canvas / Control + Shift + D = Reselects the part that was once selected, then deselected. / Control + D = Deselects the canvas / Control + – = Zoom Out / Control + + = Zoom In And there’s plenty more but these are the basic necessary keyboard commands for Photoshop. -Brittany

The lion (Panthera leo) is a member of the family Felidae and one of four big cats in the genus Panthera. With some males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions currently exist in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia with a critically endangered remnant population in northwest India, having disappeared from North Africa, the Middle East, and Western Asia in historic times. Until the late Pleistocene (about 10,000 years ago), the lion was the most widespread large land mammal beside humans. They were found in most of Africa, much of Eurasia from western Europe to India and, in the Americas, from the Yukon to Peru. Should they survive the rigors of cubhood, lionesses in secure habitat, such as national parks, frequently reach an age of 12–14 years whereas male lions seldom live for longer than 8 years. However, there are records of lionesses living for up to 20 years in the wild. In captivity both male and female lions can live for over 20 years. They typically inhabit savanna and grassland, although they may take to bush and forest. Lions are unusually social compared to other cats. A pride of lions consists of related females and offspring and a small number of adult males. Groups of female lions typically hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The lion is an apex and keystone predator, although they will resort to scavenging if the opportunity arises. While lions, in general, do not selectively hunt humans, some have been known to become man-eaters and seek human prey. The lion is a vulnerable species, having seen a possibly irreversible population decline of 30 to 50 percent over the past two decades in its African range; populations are untenable outside designated reserves and national parks. Although the cause of the decline is not well understood, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are currently the greatest causes of concern. Lions have been kept in menageries since Roman times and have been a key species sought after and exhibited in zoos the world over since the late eighteenth century. Zoos are cooperating worldwide in breeding programs for the endangered Asiatic subspecies. The male lion is highly distinctive and is easily recognized by its mane. The lion, particularly the face of the male, is one of the most widely recognized animal symbols in human culture.

I was chatting to a good friend some of you may know. She hasn’t lifted her camera up for a few weeks and it was getting her down. So I gave her a challenge: Walk 100 paces out the door and then take a photo of whatever you see. Now it isn’t the most original challenge in the world but it isn’t difficult. The thing is, when you haven’t got your mojo you need to start off by doing something simple that isn’t full of high expectations – how good could a random photograph get? Now being supportive I reached across the waters and promised to do my own 100 steps photograph. Thus my contribution below (with a touch of photoshop doodling to make things happy and fun) I hope to see her little 100 step work soon. If you’re reading this and you are lacking your photographic inspiration then try your own 100 step challenge and see what comes to mind to help move your photography along. I hope all of you out there who are afflicted can recover your spark – in the mean time hugs to you.
