  • President George Dubya Bush has said some colorful things during his presidency. This series of T-shirts distills the essence of these quotes, ranging from the bizarre and surreal to the just plain dumb, into a number of stylish quotable quotes. ‘Misunderestimate?’ – I don’t think so George.

  • This profound quotation is commonly called St. Teresa’s Bookmark as it was found tucked into one of the great saint’s books. St. Teresa of Avila was a Carmelite nun who lived in Spain and was a great mystic and prolific spiritual writer. I created this image today for three people: for Barbara and Jerry, my mother’s neighbors who lost their home in a fire yesterday. All of their worldly possessions were destroyed in about thirty minutes. Barbara ran out of the house with her purse, her robe and house slippers, and the cup of coffee she was holding when smoke billowed everywhere. The other person I created this for is a friend, Brenda, who emailed me to say she was feeling low and needed a word of encouragement. I thought that these three people who are deeply troubled would be comforted by these words of enduring wisdom and truth. Maybe someone else needs to hear them, too. God help us all to remember that he alone suffices and he alone is unchanging and dependable.

  • Antennae: Taking me Home
    by Juilee Pryor

    US$6.65–US$152.00

This picture is about how I felt about finding myself in a place that defys discription. The play of light on this icy little island is contextulized by the tiny ship’s antennae barely visible in the front of the image. Shot with b/w infrared film with a very battered old SLR in a part of the world that seemed to shape shift around me. I could never really find the words to explain what happened to me emotionally when I was faced with such terrifyingly sublime sights. Words are just not adequate to the task of representing what became a search for the faces of the gods I could sense just out of view. Images like this start to come close to that desire. So this picture then is really about the search for the path that will take me home. To the place I want to be in …. in the light…. taking me home….

  • At first it looks like a shirt out of your childhood. Or my childhood. (Sorry, I didn’t mean to age you unnaturally.) But then: Wham. A deep and profound sentiment is expressed on this lovely t-shirt: I refuse to explain myself today. Yeah. Why oh why do “they” (who ever they are, they’re right behind me) want to know? It’s none of their business what you do in the bathroom for such a looooooooooog time!

  • I was very honored when my good friend Olga asked me to collaborate with her for a challenge yesterday. During the process, I was looking through Olga’s gallery and stumbled upon a beautiful image entitled Ring It immediately reminded me of the scriptures where Jesus is telling us that we must become like little children and that we must become born again in order to see the kingdom of Heaven. The precious hand of an innocent child along with the beautiful butterfly symbolizing profound changes of the soul just seemed to mesh together perfectly. I also really liked how the pattern on the butterfly’s wings was very similar in nature to one of my paintings. I merged them with scripture and added a few PS filters and this is the result of my own collaboration in addition to the challenge entry which Olga is working on. I have a color version but I preferred the black and white. Thank you Olga for such a beautiful image and for your wonderful friendship and support! I hope you like it, patience is not one of my strong suits! /

  • The next in my mini series “Taking me Home. Another b/w infrared photo taken on my recent trip to somewhere deep inside of myself. A journey is not always just a trip away. Sometimes a journey is the path that we must take to find something within ourselves in order that we can grow as souls while on a pilgrimage back to our hearts. Sometimes in order to grow and reach our full potential we need to put ourselves into difficult situations so that we can find the truth at the centre of our very beings. This is often very difficult to do or even to acknowledge as it means allowing ourselves to be taken to the outer limits of our potential, and sometimes risking ridicule and not only that. Sometimes it means risking ecstasty and real self knowledge. In order to come to self knowledge we sometimes need to put aside sensation and come to a place of real feeling. Contemporary culture discourages us from venturing in to these tricky realms. We are supposed to consume extreme experiences, but not to live them. We are bombarded with messages that encourage us to lose our truth in idle sensation in order to supress and dull our real feelings. And so our experiences become synthetic and not really satisfactory. But we can take another path…. if we so choose. This image is then a metaphor for leaving on a journey of self realization. If I leave the shore then can I be sure that I will know myself as a result? No I can’t be sure but I know I need to try. If I can be sure of only one thing as an artist then that is I need to risk the annihilation of all ego and expectation of any reward in order to achieve the mysterious and profound that makes my art powerful. This image of a ship so still berthed in this calm harbour is also then me saying to myself …. I am sure that my ship will come in and that when it does it will take me to a place of light/enlightenment. Nothing else will sufice or I can not in truth call myself an artist.
