I thought I would do a separate and hopefully less complicated How To in regards to making links and showing Jpg files in RB. There seems to be a lot of confusion as to how these things work. So find the part you are interested in learning, maybe open up and edit an old Journal Entry and practice. VBS A URL is simply the text that shows up in your Browser Window Address Bar (up the very top), the line that starts with http:// If I refer to the URL, that is what I am talking about. ALL CODE IS WRITTEN WITHOUT SPACES Some wrapping of longer lines of code will occur within this Journal Entry, regardless of what the lines look like, code is always one continuous line WITHOUT spaces TEXT LINKS Sometimes it’s nice to have a text link when we are conversing to others in Red Bubble to help people share information, or to allow them to see another web page that has something to do with the convo. Maybe you like to include songs from YouTube with your work and want to share those Videos and music with others. Anytime you want someone to be able to link to another webpage somewhere, you can make a line of text (or one word) clickable to that link and it’s really easy to do. :) All you do is wrap the text you want people to see as a link, in qoutes {“} then add a colon {:} and then the URL. So let’s say you wanted to link to my Porfolio so people can have a look at buying something off me HEHEHE ... all you need to do is open up my portfolio page in your browser to get the URL from your browsers address bar and just type the name of the link text wrapped in quotes, followed by a colon, then the url so it would look like this (with no spaces) : ” Craig Shillington’s Portfolio ” : http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/portfolio Craig Shillington’s Portfolio is wrapped in quotes, so that is the text people will see. http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/portfolio is the link we want the text to click too When you type that within Red Bubble without the spaces you get this : Craig Shillington’s Portfolio So, abbreviated – to make a text link in Red Bubble you would type this in as code: ” text ” : link Replacing the text and link for yours and no spaces. DISPLAYING JPG’S GIF’S PNG’S ETC Please try to keep the size of these files small, both in dimensions and in download size, as if you use a lot of bigger files, the pages you put them on will load more slowly and that might piss people off!! Okay, you look around and you notice somehow people are actually making it so that you can see the thumbnail photos of thier works, or others have cool little animated gifs showing. Well … if you can bring up a photo by itself in your browser, you can show it in Red Bubble!! And again, it’s really really easy. If you want to know the link to any photo you can see in your browser window, right click on the image itself (PC Users … sorry Mac users, maybe someone can help me here) and go down to properties. In the window that opens up you will see a section that has the image properties and the location (or URL). That is the link we need to show that image. I use a little rotating Note near all the links to Videos throughout my Portfolio, so I will be using that as an example here. This applies to ANY image you want to display though. First, right click on this LINK and open in a new Window or Tab. That way you can still read this and flick back to the link to practice. :) You will notice at the top of my description for the photo, I have used the Text Link method described above to link to the Video of that Song in YouTube. And right next to that link, to draw attention to the link, I have my little rotating Note :) Right Click on the little rotating Note and go to Properties. In the box that opens you will see the Image Properties and A URL to the Image. It should be this: http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/notes-15.gif That is the link to where I have the Note.gif Stored. And that is all you need to know for any image, the URL that will show just that image in your Browser. If you copy that link to your browser Address Bar (with no spaces) and hit Enter … all you should see is an empty page with the little note rotating in the top left corner. PERFECT!! If you can open any image in this way, you have the URL in the Address Bar. If you copy a link to your Address Bar and it doesn’t just show the image, something is wrong. Most Image URL will end in JPG, GIF or PNG. There are some exceptions, but there should be one of those somewhere in the URL. Okay, so we have the URL, how do we make the image show in Red Bubble. Where you want the image to be shown, paste or type the URL. Then at the very start and the very end of the URL (with no spaces) put EXCLAMATION MARKS {!} So my note would then be (without spaces): ! http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/notes-15.gif ! And in Red Bubble will look like this: So, abbreviated – to make an image show in Red Bubble you would type this in as code: ! URL ! Replacing the URL with the URL for the image and no spaces. IMAGE LINKS Okay, so we know and understand now how to make links and also how to display images in Red Bubble. If you don’t, go back and understand it because this next bit could be very confusing if you don’t ;) We know we can show an image, and we know we can make links to text. So can we make an image work as a link? YES!! VBS And it’s sorta easy if you understand what the code is doing and how it works. I will be using my Message Me button link in my profile for this example. Because that is an Image that links to my message board and so you can leave me a message ;) Here is the link to my Profile The very first button I have in there is the Message me Button. When you click on it, it takes you to my Journal Entry I set up for people to message me in. So I know the link … all I need to get now is the URL of the button. Easy, again, right click the Message Me Button and goto Properties, look at the Image Properties and the URL there … It should be this: http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/m.gif We know from above, to display an image we wrap it in Exclamation Marks, so to show that in Red Bubble we’d type (no spaces): ! http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/m.gif ! Which will show as: Okay, we have the image up and working, how do we link to it? Exactly the same way we link to text from above. Simply follow the code with a colon {:} and the link you want people to goto when they click the image. In this case my Message Board: http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/journal/show/30445 So the whole line of code would look like this (no spaces .. and ignore the word wrap, this is all one single line): ! http://home.people.net.au/ ~ casphotography/m.gif ! : http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/journal/show/30445 When typed with no spaces and on one line it looks like this: So, abbreviated – to make an image show in Red Bubble that links to a URL you would type this in as code: ! Meet Angelica, my grandaughter and I’m passionnate about my Angel.This pic was taken three years ago when we used to do gardenning together,so many days we spend together then.She’s six now and we don’t have time together like we used to .I have great expectations for that little girl.She told me a few weeks ago that when she grow up I’ll just have to write books and she will put the images in them.She is very good with drawing and i’m thinking about showing the first steps in photography .She had a camera for Christmas ,i can’t wait to do shots with her.I thing about her everyday ,wondering if everything is ok for her ,when I’m with her the time stops and I become a better person ,that’s real love …I took that pic when she was watering the flowers,she was so concentrated,I spend days with her in my garden ,moments I will never forget.

A lot of people are asking how to do the links to sets of photos or works in our profiles … so I thought I would outline it here for those of you that would like that option. First thing is to have sets in mind and tags to associate with those sets. Then … make sure you have those tags on the photos you want in each set. This way a photo can actually be in more than one set if you like :) Then …. to make the links in your profile: (I’ll use my tree tag as an example) / you type the set name followed by the link to all your photos tagged with tree like this ….. but without the spaces: ” Trees ” : http://www.redbubble.com/people/crackers1967/art/everything/tags/tree When you do this without the spaces you get this: Trees / Edit your Profile and place the set code somewhere within the About Me section. I place mine down a little lower because for some reason long lines get cut when you view your Profile on your Overview page, it looks neater down lower and only viewable when someone clicks on the more link. You should be able to copy and paste that line with the spaces and just change the word, tag name and username, then remove the spaces and go for your life. :) You can also bullet the list by placing a hash and then a space before the whole lot and it looks like this: Trees / / The easiest way to see what your username is, is to open up RedBubble and click on View your public Profile. Look in the address bar of your browser and it will show you your username at the end of the address: http://redbubble.com/people/ username View all my HOW TO’s

Many RB members have asked me how I did my home page to look the way it does and I thought I would enter a journal to describe just how it was done. I hope it will be of help to you all. HOW TO USE LINKS AND IMAGES TO ENHANCE YOUR RB HOME PAGE / (To get this, go to your own online gallery site, choose your favourite banner (usually supplied by the web hosts) , right click on the image, choose properties & copy the full URL-address. Then open your “EDIT MY PROFILE”-link, put an exclamation mark (!) and then paste the copied URL-address of the image and end again with an exclamation mark (!). It will look like this (remember, DO NOT PUT IN ANY SPACES BETWEEN THE ADDRESS AND THE EXCLAMATION MARKS!) ! http://www.imagekind.com/images/buttons/buy_my_art.gif ! / (These two icons, I got from the two RedBubble Groups in their Forum Postings. Go check & find your links there. Then do the same as above.) eg. ! http://images-1.redbubble.com/img/art/cropped/size:small/view:main/958066-1-pimt-logo.jpg ! and ! http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/7122/1on1iu5.png ! To put shortcut images on your home page, follow the next steps: / 1) Go to your PUBLIC PROFILE (Open in another tab so you keep your EDIT PROFILE tab open to work on) / 2) Click on VIEW ALL ART (underneath your featured images – the big ones) / 3) Choose the pic you want to display on the front page, right click on the image, go to PROPERTIES, highlight the full URL-ADDRESS, close (OK). / 4) Go to EDIT MY PROFILE tab, type in an ! (exclamation mark), right click & paste the URL ADDRESS you copied. / 5) Now you can do one of two things: / (a) Just add the image without linking it to the picture (where people leave their comments) This is done by just typing the !, followed by the URL ADDRESS, ending with another ! (Remember, no spaces). Eg. ! http://images-0.redbubble.net/img/art/size:small/view:main/1580804-1-shed-a-tear-at-my-beauty.jpg ! Also remember to highlight the full URL-ADDRESS when you copy, i.e. see to it that you have a .jpg or .png or .gif at the end of the address and a http://images-0.redbubble.net ….. at the beginning as shown in the example. / (b) Add the image and the link taking the user to the page where your image is displayed. This is done as follows: Follow steps 1 to 4 above, type in an exclamation mark (!), followed by the FULL URL-ADDRESS, then another exclamation mark. Now add a colon ( : ). Leave as is and then go to the page (in another tab or a new page) where your photo/image is displayed to the public (the place where people can leave comments). Look at the top (all the way up where your Internet Explorer Page shows the URL-ADDRESS of the page you are on now) eg. http://www.redbubble.com/people/craftloft/art Copy this address by highlighting all and right click and copy. Go back to your EDIT YOUR PROFILE tab, paste this copied info immediately after the colon ( : ). No exclamation mark is necessary at the end of this procedure. / 6) Follow these steps with all the images you want to put on your front page. Remember to put a space between EACH image description if you want to put your images next to each other. And when you’ve added five images, remember to enter and then start with the next five images, etc. until you are finished. When you’re finished remember to save your work. I always save and then view my public profile in another tab to see if I made mistakes. / 7) As shown on my home page, I usually just put five xsmall pics next to another, but the size I explained above, is for small images. If you want the images to be as small as mine just change the small part of the URL address to xsmall by typing in the x* before the *small in the copied URL ADDRESS of the image (under properties). Eg. http://images-2.redbubble.net/img/art/size:small/view:main/1620163-2-swan-wannabe.jpg Change the small to xsmall and you get the same size pics as shown below. Newest Artworks – Not on my Home Page! / / / / / ________________________ ARTWORKS, DESIGNS & PHOTOS CHOSEN AS GROUP AVATARS / – the avatar (3 August 2008 to 13 August 2008) for the National Parks of the World Group hosted by Philip Johnson and Scott Robertson. / - the avatar for the Public Art Group hosted by Alan Findlater and Roslyn Lunetta and it’s web counterpart Public Art To do the above, do the following: / a) Choose the image you want (by going to the tab where your image is shown under VIEW ALL ART in your public profile. / b) Click on the image which will take you to the page where your image is shown to the public for commenting. / c) Next to your big picture, on the right hand side, there is a buy-banner ( ) which shows a choice between cards and prints. If you want to put a card on your home page, then choose CARDS. / d) When the card is displayed, right click on the image, choose PROPERTIES, highlight the FULL URL-ADDRESS and right click copy. / e) Go to the EDIT MY PROFILE tab – Put an exclamation mark, paste the copied info, follow steps 1 to 5 as explained above. / f) If you want to put a link to the group where your work is featured do the following: / i) Put quotation marks ( “ ) Type the name of the group, type quotation marks ( “ ) again, immediately followed by a colon ( : ) Leave as is for the moment. / ii) Go to the group’s main page in another tab. Use your Internet Explorer URL-ADDRESS (at the top of your page), right click and copy. / iii) Go back to the tab where your EDIT YOUR PROFILE tab is and immediately after the colon ( : ), paste the address you copied. REMEMBER: NO SPACES BETWEEN ANYTHING!!! eg.” National Parks of the World Group ” : http://www.redbubble.com/groups/ontario-provincial-parks-art / ________________________ VIEW PER GALLERY TRADITIONAL ART _PAINTINGS: People Portraits & Faces _PAINTINGS: Animals _PAINTINGS: Trees & Plants _PAINTINGS: Flowers (To do the above layout, use steps 1 to 7 as explained above) But instead of putting images next to each other, just enter after each image’s coding for display to show your pics as above. Also follow step (f) of steps a to f above, to link to the different sections you want to show! ) HOW TO CATEGORIZE YOUR ART / 8) When you upload an image, choose a TAG as description, eg. ANCIENTEGYPT and tag all the images fitting this description with exactly the same named tag. When you’re finished, go to the tab where you EDIT YOUR PROFILE. / 9) First, add your best image of this section, (by now you must already know how to do this) as follows: ! http://images-2.redbubble.net/img/art/cropped/size:xsmall/view:main/1076850-2-nefertiti-mysterious-and-powerful.jpg !, then space bar, then a quotation mark ( “ ), then the name of your SECTION, eg. PAINTINGS: People of ANCIENT EGYPT (Leave as is for the moment) / 10) Open in another tab any redbubble page (it could be the home page or your own profile page, it doesn’t matter). Check for the SEARCH-button. In front of it is an open space where you can type in the tag you just named, eg. ANCIENTEGYPT. / 11) Click on SEARCH. This will show all the work you tagged as ANCIENTEGYPT. / 12) Go to the top of the Internet Explorer Page, copy the URL-Address. / 13) Go back to your tab where you EDIT YOUR PROFILE. Immediately after the quotation mark ( “ ) , type in the name of your section, eg. Paintings:Ancient Egypt. Type in another “ , then right click and paste the address you copied in step 12. Now the closing will look as follows (Remember: no spaces before or after the name you give): “ Paintings: Ancient Egypt ” : http://www.redbubble.com/search/ANCIENT EGYPT_ ______________________ / You can do the same with the part below. Now just change the section (tagged description) with the group and group URL. Mountain lion. In speaking of the many names of cougar, one folktale tells the story of Native Americans who would bring pelts to trade in what is now New York City. When the Europeans and white settlers would question why all only skins of females (given the lack of manes) were brought for trade, the Native Americans explained that the males lived far away in the mountains, playing a joke of sorts on the naïve newcomers—this is why cougars, who are not specific to mountain regions at all, came to be known as “mountain lions”. The etymological history of the word cougar comes from French naturalist-explorer Count Georges-Louis Leclerc Buffon, who called Puma concolor “cuougar”. This usage was derived from the Brazilian Portugese word cuguacuarana, which in turn came from the Tupi Indian word susuarana, which means “false deer”. We find that this word aptly captures the international allure and cross-cultural nature of the species, while distinguishing our organization from a popular brand of athletic shoes—Puma. Erie as in Erie Canal, Erie Street and Erie Boulevard were named after Lake Erie which in turn was named after the Indian people who lived along the lake’s southern shore, an area where cougars were abundant. The cougars there were called Erielhonan, meaning “long tail” and the Native Americans living there were called Erie or Cat Nation. In 1600, some 14,000 Eries lived in villages between what is now Buffalo, NY and Sandusky, Ohio. In 1656, the Erie were almost exterminated by the Iroquois League. The surviving captives were either adopted or enslaved. If we listen to Cougar we learn to become the leader that people follow by choice, not by force. Cougar has the wisdom to lead through love, not through fear. Cougar is a take-charge totem or energy. Cougar people are such natural leaders that others tend to take their leadership for granted. If no one else is leading, cougar will naturally take over. Cougar is graceful and balances intention, strength and responsibility. Others are always safe when cougar is in charge. The cougar is very elusive and is rarely encountered in the wild. Because of this quality, cougar can appear without being noticed and quietly take control of a situation. Sometimes this can lead to conflict with others over territory. It is often noted as an animal that is independent, shy and withdrawn. The same characteristics are often found in people with this medicine. Cougar is associated with leadership and teaches decisiveness in the use of personal power. When it attacks it does not hesitate. When threatened it goes for the most vulnerable place. Cougar is not often allowed to show vulnerability. True leadership through gentle assertiveness is what cougar teaches those with this totem. Cougar people are often very sure of themselves, not taking any unnecessary steps or exerting any extra energy beyond what is required of them to achieve their goal. Most cougars learn by trial and error, which strengthens them and hones their skills. In life, cougar people may find that others will not like these assertions. Cougar people mustn’t allow others to keep them stationary—cougar people stretch their muscles and show their capabilities. Those with the cougar medicine are often attacked by others, especially by those who have grown comfortable with the status quo and do not wish to see those who have this totem grow. Even still, they may never admit when a cougar person does grow. A cougar will leap at opportunities. There are other helpful tutorials elsewhere, if you just search “Clickable links” or “image links” you will probably find more help than you need…..first go to ‘Community” and type in your search words in the Search Box, hey presto all the information you’ll ever need you will find…... I won’t be able to guide you through tutorials personally, but they are really well set out, and as you can see there is plenty of help out there, all you have to do is ask over in the forums, and someone will get to you pretty quickly or otherwise just email red bubble support who will be only too happy to assist you.

I’ve gotten several inquiries about how to make those little thumbnail links on my public profile page. So here ya go everyone who wants to know how to do it. Let’s do it step by step. PART I If you have tabs on your internet browser, right click on your tab “art” from “my bubble” and open it in a new tab. If you don’t have tabs open “art” in a new window. You’ll bet switching between these two. In the first tab, where you are at “my bubble” go to “edit my profile.” Put the cursor where you want the picture to appear. Now, click on the window or tab where your “art” is located. Once there select the small thumbnail you want to display on your homepage. Right click and select properties. You will see an “http:/” address in that window. COPY THE ENTIRE LOCATION by right clicking and selecting copy. Next click on the tab or window that has your “edit my profile” open. Now, Where your cursor is located do this: 1. type an exclamation point(!) / 2. right click and select “paste” / 3. type an exclamation point (!) That will place the small thumbnail on your page (keep your “edit profile” open and don’t save yet) . Now if you want to link that small image to the a category of images do the following right next to the last exclamation point with no spaces: 4. in the second tab or window where your “art” is displayed, go to “my bubble” select “view public profile” and right click on the address bar and copy the web address there / 5. go back to the tab or window where your open “edit profile” is located and place the cursor at the end of the last exclamation point / 6. type a colon (:) and then right click and “paste” the web address there / 7. now type the following after your username in the web address (remember no spaces): /art/everything/tags/ANYTAGWORD “ANYTAGWORD” is the tag word that you use for a group of photos, like “flowers” or “abstract” 8. select “save changes” and then . . . TA DA you have inserted a linked picture. Now if you click on that photo, all your work that has the same tag words will be displayed in a new page nicely grouped together. Just make sure that the photos you want displayed in the group all have the same tag word.
