Hello, We’re looking to introduce a matted print to RedBubble in a couple of weeks time. The print area would be one size to start (max 10 by 15 inches) with an overall matte dimension of 17 by 23 inches. We’re aiming for the base price to be $25-$30. The matted print would be backed with thick card stock and would have a hanging device on the back of them (like mounted prints) so they can be directly hung on the wall. We’re also looking to introduce a ‘interchangeable frame’ that could be used to house the matted print – the theory is that it would be easy to swap a matted print in and out. The base price for the interchangeable frame is yet to be finalized but it’s likely to be $60-$80. The matt board and backing board will be acid free. The frame will be made of solid timber sustainably harvested in Australia (no rainforest timber). Mountain Ash for those who know their Australian timbers. So a few quick questions: 1. Is the matted print a product that you’d be interested in? / 2. Is the interchangeable frame something you’d be interested in? / 3. Do you want the want glass/perspex in the interchangeable frame (or nothing in front of the print)? / 4. Would you be happy to sell your art as a matted print? / 5. Baby Bull Production is something I created not that long ago. It’s a mixed media piece on canvas textured paper…...i did it in response to the chilled out cows at Mullumbimby, northern New South Wales, who seem to be very laid back, i suspect they are indulging in the ‘other’ kind of grass also….... they have this real chilled look about them, and I’ve never seen cows anywhere else that have this way about them. I put it in the Casino Art Exhibition and it was the only painting that sold, every year a male school teacher goes to that show, or so the legend goes…....and purchases a piece…...it was my lucky year. Tonight I was asked if I’d ever sold a painting in a gallery…well, yes, and at exhibitions and privately. To date I believe I have sold between 30 and 40 original paintings, which I am very proud of…..in the early days 2002 I was very prolific, things have slowed down a bit with my painting now, because i am much more deliberate and take a lot of time to imbue my paintings with layers and love and depth…..it is just how i have grown as an artist, it is nice to report that there is growth along the journey…(and sales lol)!!! Somebody also has a print of these cows and loves them very much from what I understand lol

I have also used a variety of found objects, including lace and ribbons…and an especially beautiful gold paint for the wings which were underpainted first to created texture. On of my favourite paintings, my heart and soul went into this piece…two sweet little girls in darling dresses hanging out in the garden together….what could be nicer.

Flying Machine / by Karin Taylor / from the ‘Inspired Series’ / / Mixed Media / ink, chalk pastel, charcoal, acyrlic, mediums / silver, gold, bronze and rose metallic acrylics / adobe photoshop My most recent work, this piece was influenced by the ‘gliders’ in my family who have taken to the sky recently. My husband, my son and their friend Erich are all involved in a local gliding club…and always suggesting I paint an aeroplane lol I thought, there’s no way i can do that! / But i found a way, after lots of thinking on the subject to incorporate a sort of flying contraption i designed myself into this piece. My girl is onward bound and it’s semi-self portrait i guess you could say…altho most people don’t see the resemblance to me….she is a lot younger, perhaps how i would like to be thought of lol Also inspired by my lovely and ever patient friend Christine / a fabulous friend and textile artist, her threads and yarn and tactile things have affected me on an immense scale, so that all my work these days is imbued with these elements….although there is no actual wool or thread in the painting, i have used these as inspiration for her scarf and hair detail. The khaki overalls are what i wear when i’m painting, with a white singlet in summer, or a jumper in winter…...i am yet to find a hairdresser who could accomplish this hairstyle for me.. the little parrot represents conscience, a little voice that knows right from wrong….this is an idea loosely taken from a movie i saw a while ago ‘The Golden Compass’ I dedicate this painting to Christine, as she has listened to all my crazy ideas, and very carefully encourages me or points out things that may help, and i don’t know where i’d be without her…..thanx Chris :) Patchwork and patterns, repitition, daisies, journeys, serene expressions, genuity…..

A little while ago I promised I’d have some more news on our calendar dreaming soon – We’re not 100% there yet, still fiddling around with the final printing stock, size, ordering hanger material etc BUT it’s really close … I’ve made some calendars that everyone I show them to like, including some real life users ! So there’s good news, bad news and we need your help. / / The Good: We are looking at a 13 page, A3 sized 300 GSM calendar, wire bound for about $18USD ($20AUD) – Plus a dash of postage. They feel heavy and look nice. The Bad: Christmas is coming and we have too much to do – But, if there is enough demand “we’ll” ( read Justin ) will try and find a way to squeeze them in somehow. The Help: So what I’d ask you guys to do is help us by answering a couple of questions (in the comments or via BubbleMail to me is fine) 1) How many calendars as described above would you buy of your own work to sell or give away ? / 2) How many calendars would you buy from other artists to keep or give as gifts if they were available ? / 3) How many ‘best of RedBubble category’ style calendars would you buy if they were available ? / 4) What’s of most interest – 1, 2 or 3. Ultimately I think we will do 1, 2 and 3 – But for this year we might have to compromise and I want to make sure we make the right choice to keep as many of you guys happy as we can ! James

’’Asian Series’ card by Karin Taylor This dear little asian girl has stolen my heart! She’s so sweet and shy. She wears a traditional chinese costume with her feet slightly turned in. Flowers in her crazy ‘updo’ hair secured with a couple of chopsticks! Chinese Red Fan Girl stands before a warm glowing screen, patiently waiting for her little friend from Japan, ‘Little Blue Kimono’ to arrive. Chinese Red Fan Girl wears a pair of geta on her tootsies, a gift from ‘Little Blue’ The kanji symbols in the background on the screen translate into ‘One’s Dearest Wish’

Hidden Treasure is a mixed media production on hardboard. Included in the mix are moulding paste for the eggs, gold and bronze paint, silver thread, fabric, charcoal, ink, pastel and acrylic with a gloss varnish over the eggs. / There is a poem in the background in gold cursive handwriting, which reads: Hidden Treasure Golden eggs are not always easy to find / Sometimes they lay hidden in the pockets of our seams / Sometimes we have to look beyond the obvious to see / the beauty in others~ traits of kindness, compassion, nurture and / gentleness are not always obvious at first glance and / what one may perceive as a fault or weakness / may actually be a great strength. ‘Iliki’ Spirit of Aloha is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper using ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal. My darling ‘Illiki’ was inspired by James Michener’s novel ‘Hawaii’ and the beautiful young hawaiian girl who is one of the charming characters early on in the story. I was completely swept away during the reading of this incredible novel, highly recommended reading :D

Heart of Gold is a mixed media production on watercolour paper / and one of my most recent paintings The painting itself was inspired by a response to Sylvia, the character in Bryce Courtney’s novel who led the Children’s Crusades during medieval times. In my painting, Sylvia is on a quest, just as I am, always searching for a heart of gold. She has the key to unlocking goodness and kindness and truth hanging from her belt, and she carries a staff with a beautiful flower and wears a crown, symbolising that she is both shepherdess and a leader of her people. Her horse also wears a heart around his neck. They rely on one another for support and encouragement during difficult times.
