A little while ago I promised I’d have some more news on our calendar dreaming soon – We’re not 100% there yet, still fiddling around with the final printing stock, size, ordering hanger material etc BUT it’s really close … I’ve made some calendars that everyone I show them to like, including some real life users ! So there’s good news, bad news and we need your help. / / The Good: We are looking at a 13 page, A3 sized 300 GSM calendar, wire bound for about $18USD ($20AUD) – Plus a dash of postage. They feel heavy and look nice. The Bad: Christmas is coming and we have too much to do – But, if there is enough demand “we’ll” ( read Justin ) will try and find a way to squeeze them in somehow. The Help: So what I’d ask you guys to do is help us by answering a couple of questions (in the comments or via BubbleMail to me is fine) 1) How many calendars as described above would you buy of your own work to sell or give away ? / 2) How many calendars would you buy from other artists to keep or give as gifts if they were available ? / 3) How many ‘best of RedBubble category’ style calendars would you buy if they were available ? / 4) What’s of most interest – 1, 2 or 3. Ultimately I think we will do 1, 2 and 3 – But for this year we might have to compromise and I want to make sure we make the right choice to keep as many of you guys happy as we can ! James

Hello, We’re looking to introduce a matted print to RedBubble in a couple of weeks time. The print area would be one size to start (max 10 by 15 inches) with an overall matte dimension of 17 by 23 inches. We’re aiming for the base price to be $25-$30. The matted print would be backed with thick card stock and would have a hanging device on the back of them (like mounted prints) so they can be directly hung on the wall. We’re also looking to introduce a ‘interchangeable frame’ that could be used to house the matted print – the theory is that it would be easy to swap a matted print in and out. The base price for the interchangeable frame is yet to be finalized but it’s likely to be $60-$80. The matt board and backing board will be acid free. The frame will be made of solid timber sustainably harvested in Australia (no rainforest timber). Mountain Ash for those who know their Australian timbers. So a few quick questions: 1. Is the matted print a product that you’d be interested in? / 2. Is the interchangeable frame something you’d be interested in? / 3. Do you want the want glass/perspex in the interchangeable frame (or nothing in front of the print)? / 4. Would you be happy to sell your art as a matted print? / 5. Do you want other sizes for matted prints? / 6. What other questions do we need to answer? Here are few images of the prototypes: - Peter

BABY BULL GETS FAMOUS!!! GRIFFITH REVIEW!! CLICK TO LEARN MORE / Sales of this Design? – 3 sales so far :) / / / “Moo Cow Sunrise Family”: by Karin Taylor is another digital design based on Baby Bull Production (click here to see more) / Baby Bull Production is something I created not that long ago. It’s a mixed media piece on canvas textured paper…...i did it in response to the chilled out cows at Mullumbimby, northern New South Wales, who seem to be very laid back, i suspect they are indulging in the ‘other’ kind of grass also….... they have this real chilled look about them, and I’ve never seen cows anywhere else that have this way about them. I put it in the Casino Art Exhibition and it was the only painting that sold, every year a male school teacher goes to that show, or so the legend goes…....and purchases a piece…...it was my lucky year. Tonight I was asked if I’d ever sold a painting in a gallery…well, yes, and at exhibitions and privately. To date I believe I have sold between 30 and 40 original paintings, which I am very proud of…..in the early days 2002 I was very prolific, things have slowed down a bit with my painting now, because i am much more deliberate and take a lot of time to imbue my paintings with layers and love and depth…..it is just how i have grown as an artist, it is nice to report that there is growth along the journey…(and sales lol)!!! Somebody also has a print of these cows and loves them very much from what I understand lol
Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / Flying Machine / by Karin Taylor / from the ‘Inspired Series’ / / Mixed Media / ink, chalk pastel, charcoal, acyrlic, mediums / silver, gold, bronze and rose metallic acrylics / adobe photoshop My most recent work, this piece was influenced by the ‘gliders’ in my family who have taken to the sky recently. My husband, my son and their friend Erich are all involved in a local gliding club…and always suggesting I paint an aeroplane lol I thought, there’s no way i can do that! / But i found a way, after lots of thinking on the subject to incorporate a sort of flying contraption i designed myself into this piece. My girl is onward bound and it’s semi-self portrait i guess you could say…altho most people don’t see the resemblance to me….she is a lot younger, perhaps how i would like to be thought of lol Also inspired by my lovely and ever patient friend Christine / a fabulous friend and textile artist, her threads and yarn and tactile things have affected me on an immense scale, so that all my work these days is imbued with these elements….although there is no actual wool or thread in the painting, i have used these as inspiration for her scarf and hair detail. The khaki overalls are what i wear when i’m painting, with a white singlet in summer, or a jumper in winter…...i am yet to find a hairdresser who could accomplish this hairstyle for me.. the little parrot represents conscience, a little voice that knows right from wrong….this is an idea loosely taken from a movie i saw a while ago ‘The Golden Compass’ I dedicate this painting to Christine, as she has listened to all my crazy ideas, and very carefully encourages me or points out things that may help, and i don’t know where i’d be without her…..thanx Chris :) Patchwork and patterns, repitition, daisies, journeys, serene expressions, genuity…..

It was a fun piece that has been popular, the original has already been sold to a doctor in Queensland, and prints requested overseas. It’s funny, the paintings you don’t think will be popular, are the ones that receive the most interest sometimes. I have grown to love Girl on Red Wall very much, and would now like to share her with you

We added this conservatory to our home four years ago and what a gift it has been! Hello! My name is Mr Baxter, and I’m going to tell you a story. As we’ve had a few new members of staff join RedBubble recently, not least myself, we thought it was about time to remind everyone exactly how all the marvellous products that adorn the office and so many of your homes are actually made. However, they are mainly made in the Australian countryside, or Horsham, to be more specific, which is a very long drive. So to avoid the sort of fights that prolonged time on a bus normally brings, we decided to steal a plane. It wasn’t very big, but it fitted us all neatly, and afforded remarkable views of Melbourne as we left. This thoroughly made up for the brutal hour in which we were forced to rise. Above you can see the machine we use to print all the posters, it was most excited to meet Xavier, having heard a great deal about his habits, unkempt hair and dancing skills. Xavier returned the favour by immediately logging on and buying this. Here are some RedBubble greeting cards winging their way through a printer. Of course our cards are hand finished so here is the lovely lovely lovely Jo, finishing a card, with her hands, after being taught by the excellent Rachel. Next up were the framed prints. You can see Michael carefully selected the right one, before Nepal exhibits his trademark ‘Dust-a-tron’ technique, where he stares at the dust very hard until it GOES AWAY. And finally there are his hands sealing the frame and the print so no pesky dust can get back in when he isn’t looking. Here’s an evocative shot of a sturdy Eucalyptus Regnans frame being wrapped with canvas. In about a week this will be significantly brightening a wall somewhere in the world. This was a tense moment as Martin read out the latest Employee of the Month. I did not win, again. Martin did. Again. And here’s Martin and Paul being shown the joys of the matted prints by Andrew. Although Paul doesn’t look too happy, perhaps the print has not been cut right, perhaps it is Andrew’s tie, we’ll never know. No school expedition would ever be complete without a group photo, so here it is, and for those who like to put faces to names: (clockwise from top left) Geoff, Martin, Paul C, Paul P, Troy, Xavier, and the lovely Jo. Of course that isn’t the whole team, no, Pete was guarding the plane, Paul V couldn’t find any clothes, Russ was saving the world somewhere else, Jason was making sure Sacramento was behaving itself, Rhana was on a hill in Tasmania and Nat and Ed were both asleep. In different parts of London. 10,496 miles away from the event. And of course, I was behind the lens. With a little bit of help from Jo. I trust that this has been informative. Please keep an eye on me for more of the same. Regards, Mr Baxter – Chief Detective Inspector of Newsworthy Journal Posts

We thought it would be a good idea to take a more in depth look at some of our products, for those who are new to RedBubble and as a refresher for bubblers who’ve been with us for a little longer. A great deal of effort goes into chosing products, examining alternative formats and testing the print quality so we can do justice to the great artwork on RedBubble. / / It’s a little known fact that our quest for the best t-shirt quality meant travelling as far as Israel. We wanted to make sure we were getting the best out of the printer so we decided to track down the guy who invented it. As he was so helpful, we thought it was only fair to start our series of product reviews with t-shirts. The RedBubble T-Shirt / Designs by PROM11, Josh Le Good, Chris Wahl, annaOMline and veneer RedBubble T-Shirt designs are printed on 100% cotton American Apparel fabric. American Apparel are are known for their fabric quality and are generous when it comes to the rights of their workers. They’re ‘sweatshop free’ and they’re also committed to implemeting environmentally friendly initiatives and reducing their ecological footprint. / Designs by brettisagirl rubyred, and Steve Leadbeater RedBubble tees are produced using direct to garment printing. We use an industrial version of traditional ink jet printing technology (just like the ink jet printer you have at home). It allows a wide range of colours to be laid down very quickly. / Design by BigFatRobot From people who’ve been won over: When it comes to print-on-demand, the issue that most people are worried about is the quality of the product. Yes, it’s nice that you can upload a design and buy it, or support other artists that are using the platform, but if the tees suck then you might as well not bother. Happily, the tees do not suck, I don’t think you’d be able to guess that they came from a POD company, and they really show off the merits of direct-to-garment printing. The t-shirts themselves are from AA stock, which is so ubiquitous in the industry that it’s getting pretty silly me even telling you about them. – hideyourarms t-shirt blog Thanks for the great shirt, the printing really captured the sharp detail of the design. – PimoSupremo I love the way the coloring and shadowing came out. It looks awesome on the slate colored shirt. I made a great choice. I am so pleased with the quality. Bravo to the printers for doing an excellent job!!! Thank you!! – red addiction I bought some of my own designs from redbubble to check the print qualily, i was blown away with the detail of the print and the t-shirts kick ass too. – veneer / Designs by Nick Ford, Panoramic, Japu and Vicki Isted One last thing, we’ll be giving everyone FREE SHIPPING when you order THREE or more t-shirts for the next couple of weeks. That’s right, we didn’t type wrong, you didn’t read wrong, order three tees and the shipping is zero. Merry Christmas! The matted prints are far sturdier than I expected. Very happy indeed. I also purchased a re-usable frame. The concept of a quality re-usable frame, when combined with a few matted prints, is a winner in my eyes. Rotating the images from time-to-time on a wall keeps the place looking fresh. – Darren Stones I bought this matted print Monarch in Green from OrphieG. The print is gorgeous and the quality is exceptional. Thank you OrphieG and RedBubble. -MJWilk29 The framed and matted print is more beautiful than I expected. Very high quality and workmanship! – digitaldavers These matted prints arrived today, and I am rapt with the quality. The matte really makes my photos look great, and my workmates were impressed when I showed them. The packaging was really excellent, with individual plastic bags, bubble wrap and a solid cardboard box.
