I took this shot today while I was at Enniskillen Orchard in the Grose Vale region of the Hawkesbury district.. / The orchard is located on the Sydney Farm Gate Trail. It is a wonderful place and the nostalgic country-style shed really sets the scene for an orchard.. / Hopefully one day soon I will get the opportunity to photograph some of the wonderful sights that can be found in the orchard itself.. / I would definitely have to encourage anyone passing through, or living in, the Hawkesbury to drop in and try some of the local produce, it is a great place.. / I couldnt really think of a title for this one so any suggestions would be great, and as usual comments are more then welcome :) / Thanks for having a look!! Selection of açi biber (chilli peppers) arranged by colour. The idea came to me after calling one of my flower photographs a ‘colour wheel’ ....strange the way inspiration takes you! In Turkey these frey little gems are dried to make ‘pul biber’ which is sprinked on food/soup, nibbled as a dried pepper with bbq type meals, ground to a paste for addition to casseroles or pickled as a side dish. Whatever way you eat them they are seriously addictive and not for the faint hearted. / Chili pepper (chilli pepper, chilli, chili, chile) is the fruit of the plants from the genus Capsicum, members of the nightshade family, Solanaceae. Botany considers the plant a berry bush. Though chilis may be thought of as a vegetable, their culinary use is generally as a spice. It is the fruit that is usually harvested. Chili peppers and their cultivars originate in the Americas; they are now grown around the world because they are widely used as spices or vegetables in cuisine, and as medicine. Chili Salsa 2 14 oz cans whole tomatoes, with juice / 2-4 jchilli peppers (depending on how hot you like it) / 2-3 Tbs. cilantro/coriander leaves (fresh) / 4 green onions, chopped / 2 cloves garlic Boil peppersin water until they turn color and soften (about 7-10 / minutes.) / Slice off stems, cut in pieces and place in blender or food processor. Add cilantro leaves, onions and garlic to blender and “chop” until fine. Add 2 cans whole tomatoes (with juice) to blender and blend for 5-10 seconds (more or less, depending on how chunky or smooth you want the salsa.) Salsa will keep at least a week if refrigerated. Top on tacos, chips, crackers, bread, or whatever you like.

Being a new member of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), I’m learning tons of new vegetables, recipes, and the joy of a continually happy tummy! Learn more about Organic Farming and Community Supported Agriculture at Wellspring Farm. Profits from the sale of this photo will be donated to support shares at Wellspring Farm, Marshfield Vermont. These are garlic scapes, which are the flower stems that grow from Allium sativum (garlic) before the bulb matures. The local CSA farmers remove the scapes to push the plant’s energy toward heartier bulbs of garlic (harvested a bit later in the season). Tender, delicious, a bit milder than the hardneck varieties of garlic that produce garlic scapes … a true delicacy for any garlic lover! So far, I’ve sauteed and stir fried the delicious (and gorgeous) garlic scapes. These are going to be made into pesto … If they are available in your area, I suggest trying them in your early summer cooking. If not, enjoy their beauty visually!
