Blackeyed Susies from my garden. Private Gourley Garden, Smoky Mountains, TN. This plant, conspicuous in flower, grows up to 3 ft. in height and on open slopes mostly, one of six members of the genus in the Great Smoky Mountains. Native of the prairies which has migrated east. / Canon Sure Shot S31S
Wild Canaries! Fairly common at all elevations and permanent residents in the Smoky Mountains usually below 4,5000 ft. Small flocks of these birds are found and in spring, flocks are into the hundreds. August and September, just before colder weather, you will find them feeding on thistle, sunflower, and coneflower seeds. Dandelions, April and May, in early spring are an especially attractive food for the American Gold Fenches. / Goldfenches don’t begin nesting activities until late July, August and September. Other birds have already begin their post-breeding molts. Their nests are usually placed in weedy patches where they can get the silky tassels attached to the Thistle, very important as a downy lining for their nests, the seeds are fed to the nestlings. / Flight pattern of the American Gold Fench is swooping up and down like a roller coaster. Fenches are found in Cades Cove, Sugarlands Visitor Center area, roadsides all along into the spruce-fir zone, especially when dandelions are flowering.

Gourley Garden down in the yard, private Anole Habitat in the Smoky Mountains. Anole are arborial (climbing) lizards, seen in trees and schrubs looking for small insects, around the rocks near the watergardens, and all around the home. Canon Sure Shot S31S
Shaking dancers making chances / Form rows of soldiers / Fighting battles in lost romances / Swinging on ropes over bell towers / Ringing songs as battle commences / Breaking legs at fields on slaughter / Bellies full of bombs making new laughter / Explode to feed another soldier / Lying limbless not quite fed / Spew out their mother and father / On dead enemy soldier Private limbless hero / Surrounded by circle of army / Each with gun to their heads / They all shoot together / And fall on private limbless hero / Who see’s their limbs flutter / Together making another limb / That grows from his shoulder / So he can hold their pistol / Under his chin, then kill / To join his fellow soldier.
