I saw the reflection of that “prisoned” tree in the window, while I was enjoying a mountain climb here in Macedonia, a moment before i could see it free. It gave me a thought of what are we doing to our mother nature and couldn’t resist to pull the shutter of my camera as a modest contribution to a free green planet.

Louisville, Kentucky USA 21 April 2008 10:06 PM EST This shot was NOT easy due to another photographer trying to take this same night shot using a flash. From this vantage point, the city is one mile away. He ruined 5 of my long exposures with his flash. Finally, I politely ask him to please let me get one good shot. / MCN: C30-NP3U-4430

Took a different approach for the photoshpcreative07 competition and decided to reverse the concept. Here a lone survivor condemned to a future of infinite chaos manages to escape back into a alternate past of infinite possibility. This could be a physical escape or projected from within the travellers mind; an internal escape to fantasy, much like the ending of Brazil. Have since sold the image for use on the cover of the Griffith Review – yay.

Eastern State Penitentiary / Philadelphia, PA. / One of the many cell blocks at Eastern State Penitentiary. Eastern State Penitentiary was built on what was the outskirts of Philadelphia and opened on October 29, 1829 as part of a controversial movement to change the behavior of inmates through “confinement in solitude with labor.” Eastern State Penitentiary quickly became one of the most expensive and most copied buildings in the young United States. ESP was used as a penitentiary until it closed in 1970. In 1994 it opened for tours. It is believed that the Eastern State is haunted by the spirits of those who died there. It has been investigated by Ghost Hunters and Most Haunted. Eastern State Penitentiary

For me this is my best photo ever. I was in safari park and it was very difficult for me to watch all these baboons inprisoned and sadness in their eyes was extreme strong. I love animals very much and at my home I have quite a ZOO. I try to do so much for them, to rescue them, if nothing else I feed now so many birds in my yard, this is at least what anybody can do.This image change my way of thinking about us humans very much. I hope this image will move you the way it moved me and force you to do something good for animals. Thank you very much for viewing my work. Xenia!

by bellmuskerI almost touched someone today / Almost
One of the blessings of agoraphobia – and yes, there are a few – is that it gifts you with a finely tuned awareness of safe spaces. Watching life pass by my porch was both a tantalising and yet devastating reminder of what I was unable to embrace. I couldn’t leave my house for an appallingly long time, and I’m still dealing with the intimacy that encompasses reconnecting with people. I still have a lot to learn.

Immigration / MCN:C82-QGC1-2213 From Latina Lista Website: Immigrant detention is called “detention” because detainees are not being held for criminal charges. Immigrants are the only group of people in the United States that are routinely held in jail for civil offenses. Paradoxically, while immigrant detainees are held for lesser offenses, they can be held indefinitely, and they do not have the same legal protections, such as the right to free legal counsel, as people who have been charged with crimes.
