This is my tribute to Muntazer al-Zaidi. The legendary journalist who threw his shoe at George W Bush during his farewell visit to Iraq. Clearly it is based on Banksy’s “Flower Chucker” stencil which is based on a photo from the 1968 riots in Paris. I’ve tried to keep it faithful to both Banksy and Muntazer by illustrating his head as close as possible to the original press conference image, in the style of “Flower Thrower”. I also illustrated the shoe to fit his hand just nicely and added a bit of definition to the fingers. Love to know what you think. Good riddance George Dubbaya. Muntazer al-Zaid may be the thrower, but you certainly are the tosser. / / / / / / /

I saw the reflection of that “prisoned” tree in the window, while I was enjoying a mountain climb here in Macedonia, a moment before i could see it free. It gave me a thought of what are we doing to our mother nature and couldn’t resist to pull the shutter of my camera as a modest contribution to a free green planet.

Eastern State Penitentiary was built on what was the outskirts of Philadelphia and opened on October 29, 1829 as part of a controversial movement to change the behavior of inmates through “confinement in solitude with labor.” Eastern State Penitentiary quickly became one of the most expensive and most copied buildings in the young United States. ESP was used as a penitentiary until it closed in 1970. In 1994 it opened for tours. It is believed that the Eastern State is haunted by the spirits of those who died there. From this vantage point, the city is one mile away. He ruined 5 of my long exposures with his flash. Finally, I politely ask him to please let me get one good shot. / MCN: C30-NP3U-4430

Took a different approach for the photoshpcreative07 competition and decided to reverse the concept. Here a lone survivor condemned to a future of infinite chaos manages to escape back into a alternate past of infinite possibility. This could be a physical escape or projected from within the travellers mind; an internal escape to fantasy, much like the ending of Brazil. Have since sold the image for use on the cover of the Griffith Review – yay.

Infinity is a long time, especially towards the end. Quote by DAC Art can be viewed much like a dream: when we go to sleep, we do not plan what we will dream. Yet, when we awaken from the dream, sometimes we attempt to psychoanalyze the dream’s meanings and how they relate to our lives. In some cases, analyzing our dreams for meaning can help us better understand ourselves. Perhaps the same metaphor can be used for Surrealist art. Surrealist artists who created their paintings may not have consciously planned the images they would use; yet, as an audience, we attempt to evoke meaning from the images in order to make sense of what the artist’s intention was. Doing this, we make sense of human nature and the relativity of the world around us.
