  • Woodblock Print / April 2008 / Printed on Japanese Awa paper / Size of original print: 20cms x 30 cms This is a reduction print, which was taken further than this stage, but I wasn’t as happy with the next stage as I am with this one. Only one print remains of this stage. I am planning to attempt something completely different with what is left of the plate after it was carved out further.

  • A combination of an etching and linocut embossment. 25cm X 28cm on BFK Rives Etching on zinc plate – hard ground (for main shapes), soft ground (for textures) followed by a deep bit for added zing. Inked up in black only. Linocut embossment – much easier: cut up the pieces of lino to match the size of the zinc plate and cut into the lino then emboss the wet paper. No aligning needed as i ran them through the press concurrently.

  • This is no longer a pen and ink drawing, it has now been made into a Monotype Print. I am looking at ways I can move into more copper plate etchings and paintings. So I am going to try my hand at scribbling ideas down and seeing how they go on the bubble. Later when the work is completed I will download the finished work and put this original mock up drawing to the side of the picture. So you can see my progression. I hope to try and manipulate this visual with different mediums until I get what I want. This was last updated on 14.6.08. THIS IS IMAGE 1- Which was called “MONOTYPE 2” THIS IS IMAGE 2 – Which is called “Monotype 1” Print / MONOTYPE 3 / RAINFOREST PRINT

  • This is three monotypes torn into stripes and made into a tryptic print. It is of the Australian Landscape and put together is around the size of an A1 picture. I liked the way this image came out….and it also goes to show that there are NO unsuccessful prints, every print has potential, you just have to see it and make it work. THis is going to be one of my favorites, simple yet beautiful. So different from all my other detailed works. DETAIL /

  • This is my “Supreme” 2008 Aquatint Etching! Well, it is a copper plate etching, which has been aquatinted over and over and over again, until at last, its love finally! This is my daughter, she is sleeping and dreaming…her soul is at peace as she falls into a deep sleep. This is my third copper plate aquatint etching for the year….they are all 30×30 plates on A2 cream University paper. This one is my favorite though. I have printed up 10 of this edition, and can’t wait to print up some more. I am absolutely wrapped in this one. I hope you like it to, if you have any questions about etching or aqautinting please ask me, I would sleep in the print room and breath in the ink and ferric acid every day if I could! But we all have to go home and shower some times! *BIG THANK YOU to my printmaking teacher at Chisholm Frankston…Heather Nye * Please see my new work Forest Dreams I just added to port folio Amy’s Travel’s BillyLee / Billy Nye / Belinda Nye

Etching is a printmaking process where images are created using a metal plate and acid. There are a number of variations but the basic technique involves the following steps. An artist begins by covering the metal plate with a waxy substance or ‘ground’ which is resistant to acid. A needle is then used to draw the design through the wax, revealing the metal underneath. Acid is applied to the plate and the acid eats into the areas of exposed metal. The wax is then cleaned off and ink is applied to the plate filling the areas where the acid has eaten away the metal. The inked plate is passed through a printing press together with a sheet of paper, to create an imprint of the design. Related techniques include aquatint, engraving and drypoint. Not all techniques use acid to create imprints. In drypoint, for example, images are incised directly into the plate using the needle. If you’re keen to give it a try, don’t be put off by the need for particular equipment or tools. With a little imagination you can create artworks inspired by etching techniques, using the art supplies you have access to. The following artists have used etching techniques to create these wonderful artworks: / / / If you’re interested in exploring these techniques, here are some additional resources and projects ideas.
