Hello! Another week another RedBubble release. This week there’s a couple of new things – the ability to bulk delete BubbleMail and a sneak preview of a the RedBubble ‘private site’. The private site is designed to allow you to create a site showcasing just your work. The thinking behind the private site is that RedBubble needs to evolve into a much more dynamic website. Everyone wants different things from RedBubble. Some folks are here for the learning, some are here to sell, some are here for the positive feedback, some are here to be entertained. Et cetera. We’re never going to be able to create one static site that satisfies all needs, so over the next little while we’re going to evolve RedBubble into a much more dynamic site that people can tailor and adapt to suit their needs. The private site is still a few weeks away from public release, but we’ve got a very very early beta product ready for today and I’ll like to show you all an example and ask for your feedback. The example site can be found here and I’d particularly value general feedback on the new configuration menu which appears to the right of the large images (the menu is still a work in progress) and the options you’d like to see us offer in the private site as we build it out over the next couple of weeks. And finally we stumbled across this review of RedBubble a couple of days ago. We love these reviews and they’re great for improving the Google rank of RedBubble and all the work on RedBubble. So if you feel like writing about RedBubble please ‘go nuts’. The more links back to RedBubble the better. You might also want to check out all the tools for linking to RedBubble available here. Have a great week! Peter

Hello Bubbleers. Has it been two weeks already? We’ve been hard at work on many wonderful things which are just gonna take some time, but we do have some goodies that were ready to release today. Drum roll please… New Framed Print Previews Over the next few hours we’ll rolling out new product previews for our framed prints. They look amazing if I do say so myself, but it’ll take a few hours for them to spread out over the entire site, so here’s an example from the beautiful portfolio of TalBright: New Tee Previews They’re not quite as amazing as the frames admittedly, but we’re also rolling out new tee previews over the next few hours, with pretty accurate illustrations of each style, more room for bigger previews, etc. We were also “this close” to having an accurate preview of each garment size as well, but they’ll have to wait a little bit. Here’s an example of a Girly Short Sleeve design by dkcazaly: You might notice some weird stretching of designs while we roll these out, but it’ll be worth it! The reason behind this change is that we want to do some pretty interesting stuff with the tees, like printing on the back, or positioning the design in the bottom corner, etc, and a nice flat realistic illustration of the garment will make this much much easier. Beta Testing Challenges The Challenge Café group is graciously helping us over the next few weeks by testing out the new challenge functionality. I’ll post some more about challenges in the next day or so once we’re set-up. They’re not-quite-done, but there’s some pretty cool stuff in there, like the new “work selector” which lets you enter a work into the challenge from the challenge page in the group rather than from inside MyBubble (which we’ll obviously be rolling out to other places, like groups, ASAP). Order By Phone in Australia We’re also experimenting with the idea of “order by phone”, starting with Australia. Copyright IPTC Data We’re also in the process of rolling out copyright notices embedded in the IPTC meta data of the images. It’ll take a few hours to spread out across the site, but every main, zoom and product preview image (all the big ones) will soon contain the copyright data. There’s no setting or preference, we just do it. There’s a swag of bug fixes and little things too, so enjoy! — Justin

  • Redbubble on steroids for Firefox users
    by Roger Barnes

There’s nifty Firefox extension called Greasemonkey that lets you customize the way a web page displays using small bits of JavaScript. Hundreds of scripts, for a wide variety of popular sites, are already available at http://userscripts.org , and now there’s one for redbubble. Based on a script for displaying large versions of thumbnails on facebook, I’ve created one that shows large image previews of art and clothing when hovering over most thumbnails and many links on redbubble.com. To give it a whirl, install Firefox (as if you haven’t already), install Greasemonkey (requires browser restart), then install my script (just click on it and Greasemonkey should pick it up) Then when you load a page, hover over a thumbnail or art/clothing link and gasp in amazement at the amount of time you’ve saved not clicking through (which you can still do of course). I got addicted to it very quickly, so much so that I immediately missed it when using another computer. This is a first release and may have a quirk or 3. Comments/feedback welcome here. Update 04JAN08: Fixed the bugs that Xavier reported, writing now works, and the hover disappears when it should. To update, install it again at the link above.

  • Showing off your Calendars - Part II
    by John Barratt

I recently added a journal entry on how to show off your calendars by embedding the individual preview images for the cover & each month here . Last Friday we released some new functionality to allow you to preview your calendar via a downloadable pdf file. This gives another way of being able to publically show your calendar, and potentially via different means. If like before, you go into mybubble -> calendars -> edit calendar -> buy/preview then you should now see a link below your preview image saying “You can download a reduced-quality PDF preview here”. Here is a link to my snow calendar as a PDF, the same one as in the previous journal article. This is a file of only a few MB that can be downloaded and saved or opened up in acrobat reader. Note that this is low quality preview only, it does not have the full detail of the final printed version. The idea here is it gives you a little more detail than the standard web preview, and allows for your whole calendar to be conveniently ‘shared’ in one file. So, you can copy that link (right click in your browser and select the appropriate option) and then do things like embed it in your journal entries, add it to emails, or put it on other websites as you would like. You could also attach the saved pdf to an email, and send it directly to an friends or family that may be interested in seeing/buying your calendar.

We’ve set up the basic forum structure but expect that this will expand and grow over time. As always, please let us know what you think and how we can improve this new part of the site…

A couple of small changes were made to the site this morning. You can now elect to receive your funds transfers via a PayPal account (to change your payments settings go to mybubble->account->edit your payment details). And you can now choose what colour your t-shirt designs appear on the site. To change the default t-shirt colour go to mybubble->portfolio and click on the t-shirt design. Down the bottom of the screen you’ll see all the colour options and a new option called ‘preferred style’.

I decided to make my own! / Check this out or this Not too hard to do, in a few simple steps. 1: Take a copy of your original sized image. Crop it, or just certain parts of it like I have, and place it together to make a new image. Add the name if you like.. or not. 2: Save it (mine is saved to 300w x 450h pixels), upload it to a free image host, or your own website. I used photobucket. Probably best not to make it too wide or it might break the page layout. 3: Where you write the text description for your image, place this code instead: / !http://www.pathtoyourimage.com/imagelocation.jpg! / (the exclaimation mark is what places the image. It’s not html code, it’s RedBubble code. You could also place it with text, above, or below) Hey presto. You now have a bigger preview, or just the parts you want to show. / Like this:

Hey All, What a fantastic weekend I’ve had and as it draws to a close, I have a great feeling of blissful happiness, a sense that things are turning around, and that as we near the end of 07, that 2008 will be one massive year! The weekend really has been one of the best on record, and also one of the most tiring experiences.. why all the mystery ? Well all will be revealed tomorrow, but so many different events all came together to leave me feeling giddy like a school boy! But to do it justice I need some sleep, so Good Night my fellow Red Bubblers and tomorrow I promise I’ll recount some of the events that made my weekend so great! Sweet Dreams! Craig (I’ve talked it up a bit, so the pressure is on… there will be pictures in the next installment!)

Inspired by this thread (although it is a subject that has come up many times before) on the RedBubble forums I’ve created a Greasemonkey script to implement a very simple BubbleMail preview facility. It works by adding a preview button to your screen when you compose a new BubbleMail: When you press the button a preview of your BubbleMail will appear below the button: It’s not perfect. It has some issues. But it’s a start. See over here for more details about the script and to get a copy.

  • Promoting new designs/series

OK, this weekend ive been making an attempt to look into how i can promote my designs/arts further once i’ve got them ready and online. I realise that i could design something SUPER but getting the word out there, and letting people (the world!) know is another challenge.. Whilst RB is doing a great job with promoting mine and others arts out there – i know i need to target certain areas (communities) differently. As im not that great with written promotions, i tend to utilize more of my graphic skills, in getting peoples attention (plus the fact, i do hang around more in ‘visual/image’ places/communities) First project i thought i would try was to do a small showcase/preview of one design – showing the different type of products available with that design, the SunGoddess for example. Next, i have the aim of creating a ‘window shop’ to show the collection – which i have in two different places ; RedBubble (RB) and Cafepress (CP). My target audience is of course for people who arent familiar with these places – so its something that i can post in places (communities) that im active in (and have established a presence) like MySpace, Tribe, various forums, my own sites, Flickr, Zaadz, Stumbleupon, Blinklist, Digg, + lots more! Once again utilizing Web 2.0 to its fullest when possible.. Here’s what i did to get the link and info start spreading into the web world After making the graphic (above) i uploaded it into my one of my own site PHOTOARTGRAPHY.NET I made a seperate section in the gallery so that i can keep adding different showcase images for diff designs that i want to feature -and i named the area : iCREATESHOP. When visitors reach there – they will be presented with a small selection of whats available and with links to take them directly to the design on both sites RB & CP. / I’ve made a point to try and not double up on designs – and if you look, you will see that the SunGoddess on RB and CP have a slight variation. I just seem to think its nicer to do it this way – cuz it gives people genuine variety. I also make a point to try and keep the prices around the same. Once that was done, i posted the image also to my Flickr and from there, i utilized their ‘Blog This’ and posted it to my Webgrrl.Biz (wordpress) blog. So just by doing that and adding some description text to the image.. now those keywords, links and all associated will be fluttering around in the WWW next few days.. :) I will be posting the same info to other sites im member of and hopefully someone will discover my bit of art.. that they otherwise wouldnt have found.. We wait and see ;) I also made a banner – so i can add it to my collection and exchanges / / and i ended up liking the ‘icreateshop’ so much, that i went and bought the domain name too :P im hopeless! LoL

I’m sure its not my eyes.. but has the images including and especially the previews in RedBubble just got way BIGGER? I dont think i like this.. its a bit too big, that previews are ‘stealable’ – and this means that people can take my stuff (and yours) and use it elsewhere.. etc
