This is based on my experience working at markets and in “painting and sculpture” galleries. I have heard of exclusively photographic galleries (collaborative- not just for a single photographer) which are an easier market but I am yet to find one in Melbourne. DISCLAIMER: The opinions presented in this journal are not a substitute for professional advice and are based on analogical evidence Things that I have found help to sell photography are: / 1) Taking a strikingly lucky, creative and one off image that others would struggle to replicate / 2) Presenting your photos in an original way / 3) Providing support material to the seller about the image and yourself / 4) Signing the image and providing info on the back / 5) Having a variety of photos available for sale / 6) Only having one copy of each image on display Things I have found detract from selling photography / 1) Inferior or unsuitable framing or packaging / 2) You are selling a whole bunch of your images and most of them look similar- or more so, look like you took them all on the same day / 3) No information about the image is available / 4) No image about the photographer is available / 5) I hate to say it but photographers with birthdates in the 1980s should consider omitting this information from their biography because youth = inexperience in the minds of some buyers. The exception seems to be works using a lot of photomanipulation. / 6) Damaged prints or packaging / 7) And it might have seemed the most obvious point but images that are not interesting, or that do not fufil a decorative need There are many ways of presentaion your images including: / 1) Loose prints or posters / 2) Matted prints (and whether to sign the image or the mat) / 3) Canvas Prints / 4) Framed Prints / 5) Putting your images on other products (tastefully) Generally speaking, bad presentation will doom the sale of even the most amazing photograph and that the more creative and unusual your presentation, the more attention you and your work will recieve. Who has some other tips?

This calender consists of a series of ongoing portraits created through the process of stepping out of my own way and allowing collected imagery symbols mixed media and intuition to BECOME! Once upon a time…... I planned my art by doing a sketch or having an idea….at least a place to start. And once upon a time I realized there was more that needed expressing than my underused brain could imagine….and I have a GOOD imagination. This intuitive way of working was a necessary step in my own evolution as artist and being….to relinquish control….to learn to listen to my inner guide or higher self. I came to find during this exercise that ‘what I was asked to put on canvas’ seemed to make no sense at all …...just strange little pieces from nowhere…or so I thought yet as I was living my life I realized that it made no sense either. I concluded that this no sense or nonsense I was creating through my judgment actually reflects the innate sense we come from and all have,,,,THE BIG SENSE….....a sense beyond …....and so I trust this way of working more than I trust my way of working! LOL Enjoy IN JOY in whatever sense you can.

There are so many tips’n’tricks, tutorials, enhancements and various other interesting articles listed around Redbubble. I’ve decided it is time to revitalise the articles I have written. / Why? Because so many writers are long-winded, overly-descriptive and their instructions are near impossible to navigate. I believe my documents cover the many issues necessary to run a successful redbubble gallery, allowing artists to successfully present their portfolio to all clientele. The butterfly and birds were taken from my painting “Thoughts and Things” and the white flower is an old plastic earring….the teapot was given to me by my father who knows I collect tiny silver things like this…..from an op shop somewhere, thank you dad! The table is a cork! Once the Chunkies are created and photographed, I usually dismantle them to be used in the creation of more chunkies, so I am recycling the plasticine. These Chunkies have been very therapeutic to create over the holidays, whilst taking a break from red bubble and having my family around. I have many more to come, and although I won’t be on RB as much, I hope to also be doing some serious painting this year…so i look forward 2009 with much anticipation …

A collaboration with Christine – this is a real skirt!!! on a hand drawn model, i hope you like…it’s the roaring 20’s flapper vintage version, of the design below, to see the process, etc, read on…this skirt is designed by Chris and will be for sale available as patterns for knitters in early January, this design will be on the front of the patterns. let me know if you are interested in ordering a pattern and i’ll pass on your details to Chris \ / sales of this design – 1 so far, thank you Chris!! / / a special project, this took 15 hours to complete from start to fin. it began as a pencil drawing and a photograph of a skirt and was in 3 parts which i put all together… see below: / Top half of Arwen (pencil drawing) / / Arwen Skirt / / Bottom half of Arwen oh yes! i forgot to mention the background is an old rusty tin (a photo) which i found in an opshop..i loved it to bits and finally found a use for it! it forms the basis for the background and the matt Arwen is standing on too The skirt in this image is a real skirt! / See it here and gasp what a gorgeous beauty, and it was not only made by my friend Christine Jones but it was DESIGNED by her. Chris is currently completing a course in the UK to enhance her knit design skills, it’s very intensive and she always wanted to be able to create her own designs, finally, she’s come up with not just one, but another beautiful Flamenco wrap knitted and designed by Chris with eco friendly yarns, was recently featured on the front page of YARN Magazine Chris has asked me to create girls to ‘wear’ her real designs once she has created them, so that she can put the designs on the front of her patterns and sell to other knitters. This arwen design she’s come up with in rainbow colours has got to be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, I’m so proud of my friend. I have recoloured Arwen and reimagined her in a vintage 1920’s style art deco scene as a little Charleston dancer/flapper …. the skirt seems to easily translate into the fashion of that time… one day Chris hopes to also create an adult version of the skirt with pattern… wouldn’t that be cool. Chris is a wiz with all things textile and fibre, and i recently visited her place for a Sunday garage sale and came home with more than i intended .. a beautiful huge felted bag, gorgeous Cloth, Scissors, Paper mags, tools and equipment for stamping, so inspiring! Thank you Chris! I will keep you posted. Please email/bmail me if you would be interested in a copy of Chris’s patter for the skirt, it’s at this stage for girl’s but if you are interested in it as a big girl pattern for ladies, please let me know and I’ll pass on your interest to Chris to spur her on into making the adult one and creating a pattern for it also. Chris can probably take orders if you’d like me to pass on your details, she hopes the pattern to go on sale early January, she just has other test knitters all over the world working on the pattern to ensure it all turns out beautifully. / ...... / and something a bit different for you 500 coloured pencils enjoy the creative journey….. / ..... / Christine’s handmade one off textile garments available for sale on etsy / http://www.etsy.com/shop/yarnaboutyarn / yarnaboutyarn Christine’s website link / http://www.yarnaboutyarn.com/ / Christine’s blog / http://www.yarnaboutyarn.blogspot.com/ / Christine’s cards and prints available for sale on redbubble / http://www.redbubble.com/people/christinejones /
