  • One standing stone in this photography dominates the image while a burial cairn and other stones dot the sun drenched background. There is a lot of contrast between the land and sky in this landscape. Historical sites such as Stonehenge, and burial cairns dot the landscape of Britain. This site, Balnuaran of Clava, like the others, stands in mute testimony of the work and lives of an ancient peoples.

  • A square-lipped (white rhino at Weenen game reserve gives me the hairy eyeball for interrupting his meal.

  • Growth on an Oak limb.

  • This door leads into one of several dwellings used by Byzantine monks in the later middle ages. The cells, stables, dining rooms and chapels at this monastery in Cappadocian Goreme were carved out of the soft volcanic rock in this part of central Turkey. The wooden door in this picture is new, but the cross on the wall above it is original.

  • Looking for all the world like a giant animal of the past as it is about to place it’s right foot on to the ground, this ancient tree stands beside the 8th fairway of the local golf course. This is all contained within the Yanchep National Park, some 50 kms north of Perth, Western Australia

  • Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire, about 3.2 kilometres (2.0 miles) west of Amesbury and 13 kilometres (8.1 miles) north of Salisbury. One of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world, Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones. Archaeologists believe that the iconic stone monument was erected around 2500 BC, however this was not the first stone structure on the site. The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. Recent studies have shown some earthworks date back as far as 8000 BC.

  • 3d art render if a Suchomimus. Made with bryce 3d Suchomimus (meaning:crocodile mimic) was a large Spinosaurid dinosaur with a crocodilian-like set of jaws. It lived 110 to 120 million years ago, during the middle Cretaceous period in Africa, when the Sahara was a lush swampy habitat. Suchomimus was characterized by a very long snout and narrow jaws. The tip of this snout was enlarged to allow for longer teeth which aided in feeding on their primary diet of fish. Suchomimus was about 11 m (36 ft) in length which made it a formidable predator.

  • The Hohokam Indians lived in southwest Arizona from about 800AD until 1300AD when they inexplicitly disappeared. During the time that they and their communities were evident, they built a very large structure by the current city of Coolidge, Arizona. This site hs been perserved and the ruins are now under the care of the National Park Service and can be viewed and studied in great detail. This image was taken of the Casa Grande. It is now covered with a large open roof to help preserve the ruins. I took this shot without including that structure as i felt it distracted from the sight of the ruin.

  • The enigmatic Ring of Brodgar on Mainland in Orkney.

  • Highlands Scotland / /

  • Stonehenge / Stonehenge / Captured at Dusk on Thursday evening. / Sadly, once again, I couldn’t get close to the monuments because there was a group of Pagans who’d booked a private party viewing until 10.00pm. One day I’ll find that they’ll let me in:-) Here’s hoping. I had to take this shot from beyond a fence that is too high to just photograph over, so had to hoist the camera at arms length above my head and press the button hoping for the best. To avoid the dreaded camera shake, I had to up the ISO and sacrifice some quality. But wanted to capture the way the evening sunlight was playing on the stones. Camera: Nikon D700 with 70-300mm Lense. /

  • A South American Iguana at a Florida Zoo. I used a Canon EOS 40D camera fitted with a Canon 7-300mm IS lens. I leant against a low wall for support. F5.6; 1/160th sec; ISO 250; Focal length 300mm with IS enabled.

  • The effort to shift these stones into position on rocks in the river bed must have been tremendous. They have lasted though as one of the oldest footbridges in England

  • Another wonderful view of the Hidden Falls, near Eyam in Derbyshire’s Peak District. Myself and Jason Connolly treked down into this hidden hollow to photograph the beautiful cliffs, autumn trees, and the showery cascade that gives this place it’s name. the is something so prehistoric and ancient about this place, with it’s large stones covered in moss and ground ivy, and the caves here as well. I often stop here to just spend time thinking and enjoying the peace as the world above continues in chaos. I think jason liked it as well. Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll / 28-300mm IS zoom lens / f/22 / 30 seconds / ISO 125 / Cokin Filter system, Grade 8 ND filter, Graduate ND filter 121 and 120 (inverted) used to give the longest possible exposure time. / Slight adjustment of lighting using iPhoto.
