  • Taken at the Adelaide Zoo, South Australia.

  • Stonehenge and a moody dusk sky, the place has a real old magic to it, like your staring at the roots of the earth, metaphorically speaking.

  • I thought this format would be idea for cards, but possibly it will work for prints as well.

  • Stonehenge at Sunset, please excuse the fence.

  • Poulnabrone dolmen is a 5,000 year old portal tomb in the limestone Burren area of County Clare, Ireland. The dolmen consists of a massive flat capstone supported on several upright pillars, and would originally have been covered by a mound of earth. Archeological excavations found several traces of human remains at the burial site, which now stands as a stark reminder of an ancient civilisation. Looking back through the mists of time, who knows what ancient religious rites took place at this barren and windswept scene? Winner of the Heritage in Stone group challenge Stone Circles and Standing Stones.

  • A sunrise such as this is a rare event. Good fortune found me in one of favourite spots that morning. A primeval atmosphere seems to pervade the image. One could imagine a similar scene millions of years ago.

  • Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / Bedrock Babe / Karin Taylor / Beach Series / Mixed Media / Ink Pastel Acyrlic Charcoal

  • The painting is based on a photo I took on Dartmoor a few years ago. The light was fantastic and I’ve expanded on that to create this vibrant landscape.

  • The true originator of the skeleton suit. My entry for the public domain challenge over in the t-shirt revolution group. Enjoy :) Sources:

  • 3d art render of a some Brachiosaurus. Made with Bryce 3d. Full name:Brachiosaurus brancai Brachiosaurus, meaning “arm lizard”, was a genus of sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic Period, Tanzania,Africa. It was named thus because its forelimbs were much longer than its hind limbs. One of the largest animals ever to walk the earth.Brachiosaurus was around 25 meters (82 feet) in length and was probably able to raise its head about 13 meters (42 ft) above ground level.Weight is in the range 32 tonnes to 37 tonnes. Brachiosaurus was fully cold-blooded or was a passive bulk endotherm (or gigantotherm). / Brachiosaurus nostrils were long thought to be located on the top of the head.New studies show that, while the nasal openings in the skull were placed high above the eyes, the nostrils would still have been close to the tip of the snout ,the tall crests of brachiosaurs supported some sort of fleshy resonating chamber. Brachiosaurus was one of the largest dinosaurs of the Jurassic era; it lived on prairies filled with ferns, bennettites and horsetails, and it moved through vast conifer forests and groves of cycads, seed ferns and ginkgos. Some of its contemporary genera included Stegosaurus, Dryosaurus, Apatosaurus and Diplodocus. While it is speculated that groups of Brachiosaurus moved in herds, fully grown individuals had little to fear from even the largest predators of the time, Allosaurus and Torvosaurus, on account of their sheer size.

  • Lanyon Quoit is a dolmen from prehistoric times. Likely it was a grave, but it’s definite that it had some ritual significance to the people who built it. Built by peoples long gone but hardly forgotten. We still marvel at these standing stones today. It’s significantly altered from its original form. It was knocked down by a storm and rebuilt by locals in the early 1800’s. It’s much shorter than its previous form and is one leg short of the four it originally had. Cornwall, United Kingdom

  • The Uffington White Horse / a 3000 year old bronze age hill figure located on the front of the XTC album English Settlement and the back of the Nirvana album In Utero.

  • 3d art render of large Mosasaurs about to make a meal of a sea turtle. Image made with bryce 3d. Mosasaurs breathed air and were powerful swimmers that were well-adapted to living in the warm, shallow epicontinental seas prevalent during the Late Cretaceous Period. Mosasaurs were so well adapted to this environment that they gave birth to live young, rather than return to the shore to lay eggs, as sea turtles do. / The smallest-known mosasaur was Carinodens belgicus, which was about 3.0 to 3.5 m long and probably lived in shallow waters near shore, cracking mollusks and sea urchins with its bulbous teeth. Larger mosasaurs were more typical: mosasaurs ranged in size up to 17 m. Hainosaurus holds the record for longest mosasaur, at 17.5 m. / Mosasaurs had a body shape similar to that of modern-day monitor lizards (varanids), but were more elongated and streamlined for swimming. Their limb bones were reduced in length and their paddles were formed by webbing between their elongated digit-bones. Their tails were broad and supplied the locomotive power. This method of locomotion may have been similar to that used by the conger eel or sea snakes today. The animal may have lurked and pounced rapidly and powerfully on passing prey, rather than hunting for it. / Skeletal drawings of three types of mosasaurMosasaurs had a double-hinged jaw and flexible skull (much like that of a snake), which enabled them to gulp down their prey almost whole, a snakelike habit that has helped identify the unmasticated gut contents fossilized within mosasaur skeletons. A skeleton of Tylosaurus proriger from South Dakota included remains of the diving seabird Hesperornis, a marine bony fish, a possible shark and another, smaller mosasaur (Clidastes). Mosasaur bones have also been found with shark teeth embedded in them. / Based on features such as the double row of pterygoid (“flanged”) teeth on the palate, the double-hinged jaw, modified/reduced limbs and probable methods of locomotion, many researchers believe that snakes and mosasaurs may have had a common ancestor. “From Wikipedia”

Thou who doth move my soul, / Verily I say unto thee, / Come hither unto me and lay thee down. Thou dost move the stars. / Yet thou dost still them, too. / Thou causeth the sky reflect thine eyes. Come hither unto me. / Dwell with me in this house, / In this bed. Layest thou down, / Betwixt petals of my tortured heart, / my tender soul, my gardens. Come hither, my beloved. For thy beauty hath no equal, / And my love for thee, no bounds. Come hither, my darling, / And never, never goeth. Thou hast caused me wax tears again. / Thereby, shalt thou know, thou art beloved. Come hither, thou, and lay thee down, poet. Thou art my beloved. Thou art my beloved, evermore…
