Nature’s Bliss, Storm Shattering Smiles And A Checked Picnic Blanket With The View
Northerly winds and what’s left of the sunrays get together at the red rocks of Karaka bay.
There is no failure except in no longer trying. There is no defeat except from within, no really insurmountable barrier save our own inherent weakness of purpose. Kin Hubbard (1868-1930)
It works like a charm. A fearful people are the easiest to govern. Their freedom and liberty can be taken away, and they can be convinced to believe that it was done for their own good – to give them security. They can be convinced to give up their liberty – voluntarily. Gene E. Franchini
A fascinating stroll through native bush takes you to a golden beach. From there on, escorted by the salt saturated ocean breeze, if feels more like a pilgrimage than a walk on the unspoiled stretch of shore. When the cliffs open before your eyes, you relearn why Mother Nature is the greatest. We all do things for reasons known only to ourselves and end up in places like these. Some to admire, some to remember or like in this frame, to stop the world for a moment and self reflect.
We all live under the same sky, but we don’t have the same horizon. Konrad Adenauer (1833-1906)
If we loved nature half as much it loves us, people would enjoy a much happier reality.
There is no remedy for love but to love more. Henry David Thoreau (1817 – 1862)
I love night. I always have. The light, or lack of it, that changes the nature of things around you, making familiar different, unfamiliar threatening. I love its colors, subdued and shifted as they may be, diverse grades of darkness, wicked shadows and reflections. It is the period of the day when I am alert and creative, when I love to read, listen to music or work on some of my images. It’s not a secret that food tastes better after daylight fades out. And here you have it, the façade of an old Wellington building, painted by the mixture of artificial light sources and magical bites and bytes. Good enough for me, even better for my photo collection.
Few things are as democratic as a snowstorm. Bern Williams

It’s winter here and this morning (as every other morning lately) the whole garden was frosted over. This time, I finally managed to get out and take some shots of our own little winter wonderland! This little drop was at the end of a frost-coated stem of grass, frozen and sparkling in the sun that was just peeping out through the clouds. SO pretty!!! Canon Powershot A480 point and shoot, hand-held, straight off camera apart from a slight crop. Proudly New Zealand-made. Featured in For The Love Of Canon June 25, 2009.
Birds’ eye view of a glass of Orange Juice at a cafe recently. Dorky subject matter, I know, but I loved the abstract quality of this shot so I had to post it!! :) Canon Powershot A480 point and shoot, hand held, minor levels adjustment only. New Zealand-made. :)
Just for fun – my daughter Kassidy trying out her auntie’s Big Bubble Maker! :D Canon Powershot A480 point and shoot, New Zealand Made.
This shot reminded me of some sweet treat, Turkish Delight perhaps or Tiramisu, hence the name. If it looks familiar, it is the same drop of water as on my shot Fever, only this time I put a rose in the background that had lost all its petals, showing off its pinkish stamens, that’s what has provided the lovely textured background. Canon Powershot A480 point and shoot, hand held. Proudly New Zealand made. :) Straigh off camera apart from a slight crop. Featured in Color and Light July 24, 2009.
It’s the lyrics of this song that inspired this, more than the song itself which is a lot darker than this shot is suited to. Going Under by Evanescence. Now I will tell you what I’ve done for you / Fifty thousand tears I’ve cried / Screaming, deceiving and bleeding for you / And you still won’t hear me, going under Don’t want your hand this time, I’ll save myself / Maybe I’ll wake up for once / Not tormented daily, defeated by you / Just when I thought, I reached the bottom I’m dying again, I’m going under / Drowning in you, I’m falling forever / I’ve got to break through, I’m going under Blurring and stirring the truth and the lies / So I don’t know what’s real and what’s not / So I don’t know what’s real and what’s not / Always confusing the thoughts in my head So I can’t trust myself anymore / I’m dying again, I’m going under / Drowning in you, I’m falling forever / I’ve got to break through, I’m So go on and scream / Scream at me, I’m so far away / I won’t be broken again / I’ve got to breathe, I can’t keep going under I’m dying again, I’m going under / Drowning in you, I’m falling forever / I’ve got to break through, I’m going under / Going under, I’m going under / Canon Powershot A480 compact, hand held. Proudly New Zealand-made. Gerbera daisy in water. Straight off camera apart from a slight levels adjustment. :) Part of a series:

I picked this little weed in our garden today, it had gorgeous tiny little purple flowers and even tinier stamens that really just looked like little black dots – until I saw them through my camera lense and was fascinated to find they looked just like little bugs! To give an idea of how small they really are, the purple part of the flower that’s visible in this shot, is a little less than 1 mm in height!!! Canon Powershot A480 point and shoot, hand held. Proudly New Zealand-made. :) Featured in For the Love Of Canon Aug 6, 2009. / Featured in Depth of Field Aug 7, 2009.
