Canon Powershot with IR filter “As Is” / Brandywine Falls Ohio / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / I have been waiting for this kind of shot for a long time. The storms were fierce with a ton of rain last night. I decided to take of work and spend the day at the falls near my house. I must have snapped 200 pictures today. What a great day!! I found a new toy its my infrared lens. Of course I have many different shots just like this :-) I posted a photo in color as well at a different time called – Approaching / Autumn / ....................................................................................................................... / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / Click to View By Category: / -—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / - Waterfall Photos / - Selective Coloring / - Infrared Photos / - Black and White Photos / - Animal Photos / - Downtown Cleveland ............................................................................................................... / ................................................................................................................ /

When She Walks She Moves So Fine Like A Flamingo
Shortly after the dream, the mountains breathed out a morning glow across the still surface of a murky glacial lake.

Oskar was right, Civic Square comes into its own sometime around midnight.
The writing is on the wall – if you can see it, you can’t read it. I passed this sculpture so many times. You have to. It is made of stainless steel and placed in one of the busiest Wellington streets, in the perfect position to capture the colorful lights of the city after daylight, the nightglow of the capital. The ‘Invisible City’, as it’s called, is the gigantic panel of Braille text that highlights the communication gap between those who can’t see and the rest of us. The post is designed to remember all the folks, my countrymen and yours, the often invisible part of society, all those who finish schools, who work, play music, do sports, pay taxes, have and raise children, to the benefit of us all.
As is. He was so interested in his paw that he let me get close…...my Sweetie!! Cats are cats not dogs or very furry people. They’re true to themselves and their world view. I respect and love them for this surety of purpose, even though their “catness” confounds and frustrates me sometimes. This particular cat, my Sweetie, is the absolute cat-est cat I ever met! / Canon Powershot IS 2S

Glorious daffodils on a lovely spring day at Cox Arboretum in Dayton, Ohio. This was entered in a song challenge last year on another website and when I was considering what to enter, I saw this photo and the song from the musical “West Side Story” immediately came to mind. I liked it so much, I kept the title. This is one of my favorite images. Canon A720 IS / f/4 / 1/125 sec. / April 2008 / minor cropping and slight sharpening © Rachel Stickney 2008 / ~~ / Narcissus is the botanic name for a genus of mainly hardy, mostly spring-flowering, bulbs in the Amaryllis family native to Europe, North Africa, and Asia. There are also several Narcissus species that bloom in the autumn. Daffodil is a common English name, sometimes used now for all varieties, and is the chief common name of horticultural prevalence used by the American Daffodil Society. The range of forms in cultivation has been heavily modified and extended, with new variations available from specialists almost every year. All Narcissus species have a central trumpet-, bowl-, or disc-shaped corona surrounded by a ring of six floral leaves called the perianth which is united into a tube at the forward edge of the 3-locular ovary. The seeds are black, round and swollen with hard coat. The three outer segments are sepals, and the three inner segments are petals. Though the traditional daffodil of folklore, poetry, and field may have a yellow to golden-yellow color all over, both in the wild species and due to breeding, the perianth and corona may be variously colored. Breeders have developed some daffodils with double, triple, or ambiguously multiple rows and layers of segments, and several wild species also have known double variants. What do you call the light that permanently imprints itself into the deepest corner of your cerebral real estate? Just a memorable one, divine, sublime? The star was going down fast, as it was just a matter of ‘to get it over and done with‘ a daily sunset routine – until that moment. Like it was switched on by some all powerful hand residing somewhere in the center of a kingdom of light, the sunbeam reached across the valley, bringing all the associated attributes with it, like joy and warmth, just for a few moments, before disappearing altogether. The blue cold haze drowned the beautiful Hawkes Bay valley, but not before the last ray of sun got there first. I was standing in awe … for a while in fact, still in disbelief. Review button and LCD screen confirmed it did happen. Sweet. I’ll treasure selfishly the melody of breeze passing through the treetops, the smell of golden grass and feel of fallen leafs under my feet. Not to worry, I left something to share with you. Here it is.

Wow, this one was a bit of a journey! This started life as a photo of my beautiful little sister playing around in the back yard with my kids. I caught her in a pose that reminded me of a Spanish Flamenco dancer and just HAD to try to turn her into one. Only thing was – she was dressed in jeans, a woollen jumper and sneakers. So – first off, she needed a dress. I loathe using other people’s art to make my own so I did not want to take the easy way out by downloading a stock photo for the dress. I had nothing remotely like a the right type of dress to use so I ended up creating this one out of, I kid you not, 417 tiny layers of texture (my own resource, naturally) to create all the waves etc. HOURS and HOURS of work, but the end result was worth it, to my mind anyway. Then of course her hair style needed to be changed from a ponytail into a bun, and flowers needed to be added. / Then I decided that I wasn’t happy with the abstract background I had her in. Next followed a marathon of settings, again all using my own resources, to try her in, from beach scenes to perching on flower petals. Nothing was quite right. / This is what I decided on in the end. My only lament is that because she is tiny, much of the detail in the dress is lost. I hope you’ll view this large to get some idea of just how detailed the dress is, if only to humour me! :))) All resources my own, taken with my Canon Powershot A480 point and shoot in the past month.
