White sandstone formations gleem in the sun up along Warm Creek Canyon in an inlet at Lake Powell, Utah. Lake Powell is one of the most scenic lakes in the USA if not the world. Most of the lake is in Utah, but some of the slot canyons in the eastern parts are actually in Arizona. Some information about Lake Powell: / Lake Powell, the second largest reservoir in North America, is approximately 186 miles long and has 1,960 miles of shoreline. Slot canyons, inlets, and coves shelter the Indian ruins and natural wonders made by this lake. There are 6 marinas along the lake: Dangling Rope, Wahweap, Bullfrog, Hall’s Crossing, Hite and Antelope Point. Rainbow Bridge, one of the most fascinating and most visited sites on Lake Powell is approximately 10 miles southeast of Dangling Rope. It is called “Nonnoshoshi” by the Navajo people, or “rainbow turned to stone.” Many of the slot canyons or inlets around Wahweap are highly photographed and this one particular slot canyon is very scenic. About the photograph: / This particular photograph was not easy to take. We needed to get the boat as close as possible to the rock structure without hitting the bottom. This was to allow me to capture the shallow “green” water mixed in with the blue water and white rocks structures. I had to take this shot hand-held and sideways. Very lucky that our friends who owned the boat were patient with me. This took almost 2 hours to setup :) / Photo taken with a Canon Elan, 20mm lens, 8 ft from the rocks.

Antelope Canyon includes two separate, photogenic slot canyon sections, referred to individually as Upper Antelope Canyon or The Crack; and Lower Antelope Canyon or The Corkscrew. Horseshoe Bend is the name for a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. It is located slightly downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell, about four miles or 6 km south of Page. Accessible via a 3⁄4-mile (1.2 km) hike from U.S. Route 89, it can be viewed from the steep cliff above, forming a spectacular vista. / This image is actually made of 4 pictures taken with my Canon 20D – 17-40mm L lens and stitched together to create this panoramic

  • Castle Rock
    by steveberlin

    US$5.32–US$121.60

Castle Rock emerges out of Lake Powell, Utah. This large rock is composed of sandstone and is located just north of the Wahweap Marina and lies between Warm Creek and Antelope Island. Some information about Lake Powell and this structure: Lake Powell was created from many formations over a long period of time: Morrison, Kayenta, Entrada, and Carmel. The Entrada formations make up Castle Rock as well as Tower Butte. Some of the formations resulted in cliffs and ledges colored in black and hues of blue. Other rock formations are white or creamy yellow and consist of sandstone, limestone, and mudstone. Some of the formations closer to Wahweap are made of red, orange, and white Navaho sandstone. There is a wonderful mixture of color and texture throughout the marinas that make Lake Powell a truly unique experience. Castle rock is one of the more Scenics rock formations near Antelope Island and is composed of Navaho and Entrada Sandstone. Slot canyons and inlets can be found at the end of the long lake passageways and main channels. It is best to go out on a smaller boat to reach the slot canyons and inlets due to the shallow waters. The blue waters of the lake are a result of many different rivers draining from the upper regions of Colorado and Utah. Lake Powell is located within Glen Canyon National Recreational Area on the Arizona-Utah border and lies in the heart of The Grand Circle.

  • Horseshoe Bend
    by steveberlin

    US$4.43–US$75.81

Horseshoe Bend is just one of those places in Arizona you have to visit as you make your way towards Lake Powell, Page. To get there, you travel a few miles south of Page on Highway 89 and head off onto a dirt road just past the mile marker 545. You then walk a few hundred yards or so to the plateau which looks over the Colorado river, with no railgaurds – Be careful! In late summer or early fall, the temperatures can get well over 100 degrees so make sure to carry drinks, hats, and a wide-angle lens. You cannot capture this image if you have a lens under 24mm. Horseshoe bend is approximately 1100 feet high with Echo Peeks to your west and the Paria and Colorado rivers in view. The Colorado river makes a full bend and the reflections make it appear green-blue at times with amazing red and brownish rocks and jagged areas surrounding the hole. The one things we found on our trip was that shadows and clouds sweep by this vista so quickly and its worth staying around for several hours.

  • A day at Lake Powell
    by steveberlin

    US$4.43–US$101.08

Lake Powell is one of the most scenic lakes in the USA with the lake encompassing almost 2,000 miles of shoreline. The water comes from many sources such as the snow melt from Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado. The Colorado, Escalante, and San Juan rivers are the chief sources of water which empty into Lake Powell. Lake Powell also has 4 separate marinas which include the Wahweap Marina, Bullfrog Marina, Halls Crossing Marina, and Dangling Rope Marina. The lake is around 186 miles long and offers so many slot canyons, beaches, and interesting sites along the way. You can rent houseboats, paddleboats, and jet skis and head out to a multitude of places for photography or just for fun. Some of the views near Wahweap provide balancing rocks, pinnacles, and buttes, and the rocks sometimes glow in shades of white, orange and red, while the water is a deep blue and becomes greenish as you close in to the shorelines or rocks. This photograph was taken around Warm Creek and shows the awesome rock structures and beautiful cloud formations that you can find almost any day in late summer or early fall. NOTE: Lake Powell is located in both Utah and Arizona and falls within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
