  • I’m often asked asked how much my paintings cost or how much to charge for commissioned portraits. It always leaves me cold. My original oil paintings are priceless and irreplaceable to me. I guess, like most artworks, they are worth whatever someone is prepared to pay. Be it 1 pound or 3 million pounds. Originally I was going to paint a portrait using copper coins at different stages of oxidization. The shiny new ones for highlights and the older darker ones for the shadows. I still might. This one cost £45. OK it didn’t really but there are 4500 (digital) 1p coins in it.. Digital Collage, 2008 A detailed view…

  • This is his first christmas. (Rescued from the animal shelter. Please support your local shelter and save an animals life.) His name is ANZAC.

  • A magical morning walk through the Ormiston Pound provided such amazing photographic opportunities from a location I have many quality images from already. The Ormiston Pound is quickly becoming a very good friend of mine and I find myself being happy just to be in its presence. As a person who visits stunning locations like this once a week it can be challenging to see it as if I were looking at it for the first time. The Ormiston Pound has never presented me with this problem as it can be such a dynamic location. • A well weathered Rock Acacia sit on top the ridge line of the South wall of Ormiston Pound. I had been watching this tree for almost a year now and dreaming of having the right light too shoot it. This morning was perfect with heavy clouds to really block out the sun which would have been right behind the branches. Plus the amazingly clear conditions enabled the viewer to see a stunning amount of detail in the usually dusty mountains of the north wall. • This is a reworking of an earlier image that I posted here on RB I really love the original colour version as all through the image it has beautifl soft hues where usually the desert is very harsh. This morning was truly the most magical morning I had been ontop of the pound with dense heavy clouds sweeping over the landscape and the thick moist heavy air filling my lungs. I had been watchnig this tree for more than a year and I had never managed to soot a single image of it. This was mostly because of my previous camera a Canon 400d with its crop sensor didn’t offer enough field of view even with a 17mm lens on the front. With both mt new Canon 5D MKII with its full frame sensor and the perfect weather conditions I was able to fit all the detail I wanted in both the range and the tree into a single frame. I hope that you like it! • Gold was first discovered in Victoria near the Yarra River in Warrandyte. The find was made by Louis Michel in 1851 at a tributary of the Yarra called Anderson’s Creek and marked the start of the Victorian gold rush. The approximate location of the site is marked by a cairn on Fourth Hill in the Warrandyte State Park. The river was drained and diverted in various areas throughout the gold rush to aid gold miners. An example of this is the tunnel at Pound Bend in Warrandyte. The river was partially dammed at Pound Bend near Normans Reserve at its eastern entrance and near Bob’s wetlands at its western exit. Miners then blasted a 300m long tunnel through solid rock. The river was then fully dammed at the entrance and exit to the tunnel and water was diverted through 300m and out the other side leaving an astonishing 3.85km of riverbed around Pound Bend exposed to the sun and the miners picks. • My dog sitting in the sun a few weeks ago… / Saved her from the pound here in Oklahoma back in October of 2008. We got her as a tiny puppy. The next day we took her to the vet and found out she had parvo. 14 days in the vet and almost $2000 later she’s fine and ours … goodness… She’s half black lab and half Bassett hound. Her name is Siren due to the fact that I couldn’t ignore her call when I saw her at the pound.. Nikon D80

  • An Australian ‘Gentleman Of The Road’. I often see Rick in my neck of the woods. He asked me very politely if I could spare some change. / I gave him a £1 and he was grateful. I was pleased that he didn’t spend it on beer, he spent it on chocolate, which you can see in his hands. / I asked very politely if I could take his picture. / I was grateful. We have agreed to share any profit from this encounter. London / April 09 Featured in Former DPF Members

  • Shakespeare and Company is an independent bookstore located in the 5th arrondissement, in Paris’s Left Bank. / The original bookstore’s proprietor was Sylvia Beach. The shop was often visited by artists of the “Lost Generation,” such as Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, George Antheil, Man Ray and James Joyce. Shakespeare and Company, as well as its literary denizens, was repeatedly mentioned in Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast. / Patrons could buy or borrow books like D. H. Lawrence’s controversial Lady Chatterley’s Lover, which had been banned in England and the United States. / It was Beach who first published Joyce’s book Ulysses in 1922. The book was subsequently banned in the United States and United Kingdom.

Recently I emailed images from the local big park (Fagan Park) to Hornsby Council suggesting they would make wonderful postcards, calenda…

Recently I emailed images from the local big park (Fagan Park) to Hornsby Council suggesting they would make wonderful postcards, calendars etc to promote the area, especially with a kiosk now being built near the main park entry. Today I not only was told photographs are sourced via their annual Hornsby Council photo comp (which is not widely advertised so I was unaware of it!) but that Council has a policy re photography (where have we heard this before? There must be an epidemic!) and if anyone intends to put photos up for sale, there is a ‘process’ to go through, and payment of a fee!!! So I will need to make my Fagan shots for viewing only on RB, which also means they will not be available on my bubblesite. I think it is the latter matter which distresses me more. They are a major part of my portfolio but I won’t be able to display them to bubblesite viewers. Has our society gone mad? Sometimes I wonder! Maybe we’ll need to stick to our own backyards pretty soon and not be seen in public carrying a camera!! :(( Rosalie PS Council website has, among other things, a statement saying Fagan Park is great for “Wedding ceremonies and photography” ... with NO mention of permission or fees!!! PPS I really like the following statement (which is on a similar topic) by Russell Stewart (www.potd.com.au – and I quote this with Russ’s permission!!!) Photographers are NOT automatically terrorists! / Photographers are NOT automatically paedophiles! / Photographers have the right to photograph in public places, where subjects have no reasonable expectation to privacy. / When in public, people do NOT have the right NOT to be photographed. This is the LAW!! / Photographers are the VICTIMS of uneducated law enforcement, the media and it’s misguided group of followers.

  • While sitting in the dirt on the edge of a stream bank, digging and searching for Lenni Lenape arrowheads, spear tips, axes, and scrapers, I saw a woman walking her two dogs down the street. I always gravitate towards dogs, especially Labs and Retriever’s. I immediately got up and started talking with Charlie and Angel’s Mom, Amy. Charlie, four years old, is part Golden Retriever, plus who knows what else, as well as a dog rescued from certain death in a pound. Angel, his new Sister is eleven years old and a purebred Golden Retriever. Sadly Angel has a brain tumor. I felt like crying, since I have had so many Retriever’s pass at ten and a half years and younger. Angel is a fitting name for this gorgeous Golden who instantly befriended me. Charlie was a little leery, as most rescue dogs can be. After all, he was mistreated and abandoned with 3 other siblings only to wind up in the pound. Angel shows no sign of a brain tumor and was just a beautiful joy to behold, love and photograph. Charlie, a bit camera shy, was also a love, well…after I put the camera down, which scared him. Amy told me that Charlie takes care of Angel and watches her every single move. This is not unusual at all for dogs who bond together. When my Yellow Lab, Graham, was on his last legs, Honey our other Lab, backed off from playing with him and stayed close and lovingly by his side. She was about 3 years old at the time. Some people don’t realize how these awesome animals communicate silently together. They take care of one another and have intuitiveness when it comes to illnesses. I believe that those who are rescued are especially sensitive, due to their abusive backgrounds. Here they are together, with Angel loving Charlie. Charlie takes in every bit of it too! Their Mom, Amy, works for a local rescue team in the Philadelphia area. Many dogs that she rescues have never set foot on the ground, due to puppy mills. This saddens me beyond no belief… I pray that Angel will live comfortably, as she is now, for as long as possible. My heart goes out to her and I would have never known her condition if Amy hadn’t told me about it. Having had Retriever’s for most of my life, I held back tears as I held on to both Angel and Charlie, as it is so hard to have our babies leave us at such young ages…I felt very compelled to put this picture up, not only for Amy and Angel, but especially for Charlie who is doing quite a job taking care of his big sister, thanks to Amy for her awesome volunteer work as a rescuer!! Charlie has found great love and is now giving it back like there is no tomorrow! I hope to be able to help Bill Smith’s organization, (who started the rescue operation), given time. It’s my hope that those of you who read this will not buy a dog without first looking at the SPCA and local pounds. Right now, they are suffering due to lack of state funds and more and more dogs are being left behind, due to the state of the economy. SPCA’s, Shelters and pounds are all getting more animals than ever and euthanasia is surely on the rise…In addtion, backyard breeders are popping up all over the place, since it is easy to make under the table money. This worsens the situation further. If you do decide to adopt a dog, if you can’t find a dog at a SPCA, pound or shelter, which meets your needs, then a great site to check out is Petfinders.com Petfinders.com has thousands and thousand of beautiful dogs, available for adoption and who are only looking for the love that they truly deserve. A video about Puppy Mills. Please note – this is very hard to watch and does contain graphic pictures, however, the truth needs to be shared…

  • This is 5 month old Murphy. He’s man’s best friend, not some dog, hehe. They don’t come any more loving and affectionate than the Murph! Came in to the shelter with some 6 other siblings, a case of a hoarder being evicted. Not good. Click once on the Murph to enlarge. / / / /
