  • ... There’s Something In My Eye

  • This encaustic painting was created by painting acrylic on board, covering the board with a mess of bees wax (with pigment mixed in) and carving/scratching into the wax with various sharp objects. I took the hairdryer to it, which resulted in slightly softer lines, and finally I painted some sections with oil paint. When I started with this medium I completely hated it, as I was trying to do encaustic in the traditional method, that is thinly layering colours to build up tone. It works well for landscape pieces, but did not work for portraits, so I ended up splattering wax all over my work, and scratching into it in anger, this was the effect. Everybody at uni really liked this piece, which I found quite funny as it was a complete fluke. I really should get around to experimenting with this medium more, I can visualise some interesting colour schemes and designs now.

  • [Adobe Illustrator] This portrait of me was designed to show that life is too short to just sit at home and waste time, but to go out and do something not normally done; like skydiving. This artwork also included a poem: The now is incredible. / Don’t live in the past. / Life is inspiration for fun. / There are no limits for the future.
