Abandoned couch in Northcote.

A farming area in the region of Clarkle’s Hill near Ballarat.A storm passed over the area and as sunlight broke through clouds the old farm house along with the brown and green fields came to life.

This is a project of 6 pictures for a competition (which I didn’t win) where the subject was, basically, the way big cities have shaped our way of living, when the most likely would be the other way around. Please consider the titles when looking through them. Also, they work better when seen as a body of work. Hope you enjoy!

The world famous cod hole, Ribbon Reefs Northern GBR Australia. This place provides a totally fantastic experience hanging out with enormous fish. The site regularly has potato cod more than 1.5m in length that are just as curious to see us as we are to see them. If you get a change to visit it’s not to be missed.

Emerald Paradise As Is… / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Rainbow Springs Florida’s third largest spring, Rainbow Springs pump 600 million gallons of water daily and serves as the head water to the pristine Rainbow River. The property was acquired by the State Park Service in 1990 and is slowly being allowed to revert to its natural state. / Beautiful floral gardens surround the spring, and the area is immensely popular in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. The state also acquired Rainbow Springs State Campground, located nearby, which was formerly privately owned. From the campground, you can tube or canoe the crystalline waters of Rainbow River, or fish for large mouth bass and other freshwater species. / A nature trail provides a lovely walk past two waterfalls and the azalea gardens, and meanders along the Rainbow River. / /

You know, the wonderful thing about still life is that the subject is still ....a very big plus after spending so much time trying to get macro shots of flowers that blow willy nilly in the slightest breeze and create a memory card full of out of focus shots. The other thing that I’m loving is the way the subject doesn’t mind all the fiddling ….being arranged and re-arranged…although I do think I heard a bit of a squeak from these onions and potatoes. They may have been on the verge of going on strike after all the manhandling. :-D HollyCawfieldPhotography

Leek & potato Soup / Camera: Olympus FE230 on Macro / / Recipe: / 4 Large Leeks, Cleaned & Finely Chopped. 2 Medium Potato’s, Cleaned & Diced. 1 Medium Onion, Cleaned & Finely Chopped. 1.5 Pints Chicken Stock or Water, 0.5 Pints Milk, 2 Ounces Butter. 2 Table Spoons Cream, 1.5 Table Spoons Chives or Parsley. / Salt & Milled Black Pepper. Method: / Melt Butter and Potato’s, Leeks & Onions —Stir -- Season, Cover. Sweat for 15 minutes, Low Heat. Add Stock & Milk, Cover & Simmer for 20 minutes/ till veg is soft —Blend -- Reheat Gently, Add Chives or Pasley and Cream to Serve.
