The feeling you get when you are about to leave on a road trip during the summer time. Apprehension and excitment for what the adventure ahead may hold. Camping on the beach, surfing in boardies, relaxing with friends, bbq’s and beers.
Snapshot on a warm night in Geneva
As Autumn begins to give way to winter, the morning sky and light becomes more soft, as Mother Nature takes a turn and starts her winter hibernation. This sure was a different styled shot for me. I actually intended to get down to Washington Park and shoot the sunrise but instead was greeted with something that seemed otherworldly. The sun backlighting the clouds and the dampness in the air made for quite a surreal feeling, standing here in absolute solitude, not a sound, not even the Geese you see in the water made a sound…it was ominous. I figured I would try something really different for once and got out my tripod and put on my Minolta 28mm F2.8 lens for this shot ( I am LOVING that damned lens BTW, sharp as a tack!) and started firing off shots, then it hit me,—-why don’t I try a few long exposures, and well, this is the end result. 10 seconds. Personally I kinda like it, an odd impression it gives with the Geese in the water, reminds me of a painting, and surreal as well. Does it work?? I am not entirely sure, you be the judge. I would love to hear what ya all think of this shot. I have gone ahead and submitted it under the surreal category, a category I don’t think I have ever submitted to before…. Anyways, I would love some feedback on this! / Thanks all! / -John / -—-—-—-——- See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. And so the series begins, The Doors of Santa Fe / I simply loved New Mexico and the city of Santa Fe is of no exception…..around every curve and corner, there were photo-opps and one thing that really caught my eye was how the Adobe architecture had all these really old doors….crafted 100s of years ago. The doors, while not always straight and often far from it, provided a nice contrast in color, design, and history to the buildings they often adorned. Thoughts most welcomed! / —John
St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe Sitting in the center of the town square in Santa Fe, New Mexico stands the St. Francis of Assisi Church. Built between the years of 1869-1886, it sits on an earlier site of a church built in 1626. This was a REALLY hard shotto pull off as the town center square is filled with people so I had to act quickly. I fired off 3 brackets handheld for the HDR and metered at the bricks on teh church…hoping this was going to work….I think it did. Thoughts most welcomed! / —John http://www.redbubble.com/products/configure/2720872

Captured on an early morning at Denver’s historic Washington Park. Standing here taking in the scene, was just amazing, sheer serenity….so utterly quiet I didn’t even hear the Goose swimming by. Amazing that in such a large city, nature thrives, never knowing that this peace is surrounded by so many people. And for once, the world just seemed like such a better place….. —-—-—-—-—-—-— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. Sometimes, not often enough in my opinion, I am lucky to get to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado at first light and this was one of those times. Just as the sun started hitting Long’s Peak, I almost ran the car off the road, to park and run in the back seat for my tripod…had to be done! Let me know what ya think! / —-John
Jones Pass Colorado….this little gem I found by accident actually. Ironically, this whole area has been mined for many years, centuries, old gold mines, and the water is very polluted, and though ugly in an environmental kinda way, the color caught my eyes. It made for some nice contrast on a cloudy day. So why the B&W? I can’t really say other than the fact I like it better actualoly, it brings out some nice contrasts. / Let me know what ya think! / —-John

7215 I tell ya, I wish I could honestly buy this place if it ever comes up for sale! Captured outside of Estes Park, Colorado, during my Autumn photoshoot, Longs Peak made for an incredible backdrop to the colorful Aspen and this old wooden cabin. Shot in very early morning light, the whole scene just seemed to glow…I had to stop and get quite a few shots off, as it just really caught my attention and seemed to echo the meaning of the words ‘relaxation’ quite well. / Hope ya all like it! / —-John Minolta 5D / Minolta 18-200 DT Lens / SIngh-Ray CPL / f8-iso 100- 24mm

A Sunrise Over Golden Captured overlooking Golden, Colorado from Lookout Mountain / I went ahead and set the scene up and was thinking “Oh ya, maybe I should try using my filters!” and wallah, this is the outcome! It was a cold morning to say the least, and once again my damn tripod was like a flagpole one licks when it is below freezing lol You have to love the feel of cold, icy steel on bare skin! It is so much fun! NOT! lol But I think it was pretty much worth it.
