Taken during a sailing trip in Germany, Heiligenhafen. / We anchored in front of a beautiful coast. When I saw the shining red from the yacht I just had to go there. Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado…..and how I love shooting up there when the winter weather begins to roll on in…the wind is bad, the air—-freezing cold, but the images that one can capture are filled with atmosphere and drama, case in point, this shot here. I about froze my butt off getting this shot of Mummy Mountain, but I wanted something that really showed all the detail here….that represented what it’s all about being a nature photographer in Colorado…... / Thoughts welcomed! / HDR blending used to bring out more dramatic light and detail / John

I’m up to my old tricks again! I’m now truly hooked on the Forgotten Postcard concept. I went digging through my old photos today to find some that I wasn’t altogether happy with to see what could be done. Venice is one of those timeless, European cities. I haven’t had the best of luck photographing it as both times I’ve been there the weather has been horrid. This particular shot was pretty drab and boring. Hopefully it’s a bit more interesting now :)

The caldera is a dormant volcano. This view is in the town of Oia. Many archeologists believe that the lost continent of Atlantis lies submerged here. This image was used as a book cover on a book series entitled Travelers’ Tales.” It graced the cover of “Travelers Tales:Greece.” The houses of Oia are built into the sides of the island’s northwest cliff, thereby maintaining a cool temperature in the summer. This was photographed with a Nikon F3 using elite ektachrome, 100 asa, 1/250sec @ f/11 in Sept of 1997 at around 3:30 – 4 pm.
