Went down to the old Monash Freeway for a few light trails shots at dusk just 2 minutes from my house. I’ve always wanted to get some really cool light trails shots and this I was real happy with :) After looking at a few I wanted to do something a bit different with it. HDR done in Photomatix and went for a Direct Positive look in AdobeLightroom. Exposures were 13 seconds, 3.2 seconds and 30 seconds f 7.1 at ISO 100. “DARE TO BE DIFFERENT” makes the perfect gift for the independent individual in your life. Could that be you? The image features a photograph of a real White Raven (also known as a “Spirit Raven” by local Haida people) born in May, 2008 on Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. He is one of two rare white and 3 black Ravens born to 2 accepting (black) parents. The two rare birds are not albino which is what makes them so unusual. Their eyes are quite blue. All 5 siblings are getting along extremely well and all are thriving. White Ravens are very rare and hold sacred meaning for many groups and cultures throughout the World, including Native American Indian, Celtic, Norse and Wiccans. This artwork is another tribute to these remarkably intelligent and friendly birds. 50% proceeds from all sales go to the Mountainaire Avian Society in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.

I was watching the movie “The Ultimate Gift” listening to the character played by James Garner talking to his grandson when he said… ‘Learning is a gift… even if pain is your teacher”. As soon as the words had finished coming out of his mouth I honestly said out loud – YES!! Immediately I was blown away by the quote and I wrote it down and thought about its meaning for weeks. I’ve never felt so affected by a sentence before. Upon reflecting this quote I found quite confronting to realise that I spent my twenties doing everything to avoid and “run away” from my emotional pain.. Now in my 30s I’ve realised that pain was essential for me to be a more caring, less-judgemental and forgiving person. Pain seems to show us the truth in others… the truth that all people, no matter what’s on the outside… have a heart capable of breaking on the inside. This is my rendition of the stairway to heaven, when we go toward the light. In my mind it is this brilliant light filled with the colors of the rainbow. The dove of peace or the Holy Spirit would be waiting to show me the way and to take away any fear. I am not afraid of dying, in fact, I think that it will be the positive experience to far out weigh any positive experience that I have ever had, other than my birth.
