Positano, Amalfi coast, Italy. One can never stop photographing it…
A little piazza in south Italy, lit up and decorated for the fiesta
This photo was taken in Positano, Italy on the Amalfi coast. The scooter was parked in a line of around 20 to 30 other scooters but obviously, for me, what made it stand out was the Union Jack ensign on the rear pannier. / On seeing the scooter with the ensign it made me think of a good friend of mine who is both patriotic and an admirer of all things related to the mod era. It was with him in mind that I took this photo. / In my minds eye I could already envisage the finished photo. I knew immediately that I would be taking the shot back to 1960’s black and white, yet also bring it up to date through the bold colours of the Union Jack. I took a number of shots with the whole line of scooters, a number of shots with a select number of scooters and then a few individual shots. It was clear the most striking was the individual shot. Looking on the picture now, it is hard to imagine that it was parked with other scooters. It seems to sit nicely on its own, as though it was the only thing parked on an otherwise empty street. / You can take a number of photos throughout your lifetime and there are but a handful that you can look at again and again. For me, this is one of those photos. / Italian design, British pride!
Hope you enjoy this collection of images, photographed in the following places Capri / Anacapri / Amalfi / Positano / Rome / Tuscany Most of these images have not been seen on RB before, if you are interested in any please mail me and I will make them available :)) I love Italy it is a place that I keep returning to….......
This was taken with a film camera and scanned to digital. It was taken in Positano, Italy in summer. It still looks timeless.
This is an egg tempera painting (original has been sold) of my niece enjoying the view from the balcony of her hotel in Positano, Italy. / It is 36” x 48” on wood panel.
A little experimenting with some CS3 filters, some cross processing.
Taken in Positano, Italy. A row of “clothes hangers” that I felt looked distinctively Italian in flavor, while still looking a little bit cheesy.
Taken at a shop window in the Southern Italian town of Positano. I just thought the collection of red chillies and limoncello bottles were a fair representation of our time in this beautiful little village on the Amalfi Coast
Taken during our honeymoon last year in Positano, Italy – I was waiting for my wife to go to the bathroom, and being a stranger in a strange land I wandered off to see what I could see in those few short minutes. Just up the road I came across an alley where I spied this quaint little string of leaves growing down from an overhead bridge. I took a couple of shots, not expecting much. I must say, though, this one has grown on me over the months (pardon the pun)
This prolific and beautiful bougainvillea was growing over a pergola along part of a footpath in Positano, Southern Italy. / What a beautiful way to get a little shade from the Mediterranean sun.
Positano Italy on the Amalfi coast
Beautiful miniature replica of the village which is built into the rocks on the side of the cliff. A stunning view when entering Positano. Enhanced in photoshop
Photography – Narrow street in the hills of Positano, situated high above the sea on the west coast of Italy.
Praiano, Italy…the long and very steep decent leading down to the Mediterranean sea. One must take a very small noisy 2 person lift to reach the steps… Climbing down the narrow winding stairway takes effort, but not nearly as exhausting as climbing back up. Leaves one plenty of time to reflect…
Positano, Italy….as beautiful as they say it is. In the book/movie ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’ Frances makes a couple of visits to Positano on the Amalfi Coast south of Naples….the hometown of her Italian casanova Marcello and wow it is every bit as beautiful as it is portrayed to be in the movie. /
Amalfi, south Italy. Picturesque medieval towns Amalfi and Positano, with their colorful houses stacked against the cliff are among the most photographed little towns in the world. Rather than going for brigh colors, here I tried for a different photo and different atmosphere.
Looking down onto a rocky beach filled with colorful umbrellas and chaises on the main beach in Positano, Italy. Digitally repixelated photograph. Click once on this image to enlarge. / / /

9X12 Acrylic Sketch: Painted from my hotel room in the Boca Hotel overlooking the beach and the Domo of Saint Anthony. Very confusing light with the moon light, artifical light, and the ambiant light bouncing all around. The there was this great view of Capri Island just 18 miles away across the Bay of Naples.
