[portrait taken in Natural Light] : 16/11/2008 [AS IS] I was walking from one village to the next, in Remote Nigeria. one of the team noticed this young girl following us for some time. I stopped and spoke to her through an interpretor. We learned that she was 13 years old and caring for three younger Sisters. As she told us here story, I Felt compelled to return to her village. There we met her three younger sisters in the most extreme poverty. Both Parents were dead and no other living relatives. We spoke to the village Chief and the elders who pleaded with us to help the family. We did, as God lead us to and blessed her with clothing, and the following day we sent two of our field workers to meet with her and now they have a small regular income from our mission funds. UPDATE 5-8-2009. Mary is now at School. We pay her school fees adn her three younger sisters are well and happy. We need help with Susan, aged 9. She wants to go to school also. We need help with school fees, uniform adn text books. Can you help? will you Help? Grace looks at me with eyes of love and hope, as we explain to her that we will get medicines that will make her better. Grace is very ill and has intestinal worms. Here in developed countries If a child is sick with worms, a doctor will provide medicines to cure that child. they will get the best treatment possible. But in Tunga/Zuga, there is no Doctor and the nearest hospital is a grueling 40plus miles away. even then if the family has no money, the child will be refused treatment, except on rare occasions. Many Children here die from worm infection mainly caused by drinking polluted water. When the well dries up there is no choice. Thanks to your Prayers and financial donations. You have made it possible to help Grace. Please continue to pray for her, and help others in the villages just like Grace. />I am a missionary born in Northern Ireland and living in London for the past 23 years. This photograph of Angelena was taken while at a Church service in, Nigeria. This was the first time i met her. She was sitting at the back of the church against the wall on a seat all alone. I used full zoom and took over 50 photographs of her. This is the only one that came out good. this was not a planned pose and I caught her like this without her knowing. she was quite a distance from me. I was sitting on the platform waiting to be called to speak. This young Girl inspired me so much. Her young life is an inspiration to me of how faith and hope can carry us through difficult times. Angelina is 12 years old . She is one of the children we have been caring for for the past three years. When we found her three years ago she was close to death and without Parents. Three years later she is loved and attends school. We can and do make a difference to children in extreme poverty and sick. All it takes is Love and a heart of compassion to sow a little time and money into a child’s life and you will see the transformation. Angelina was dying from malaria when we first saw her. Now she lives a full life. She says she wants to be a doctor and help others who are sick. God bless her and all who helped us in helping her. 100% of all proceeds from sales of my art ,donated art, and donations made via Philadelphia Mission Charity website, goes to help extreme poor in Isolated and Rural villages in Africa. This is Grace and she lives in Tunga/Zuga Village, deep in remote Nigeria. In December 2007, I uploaded Her Photographs and since then many people in Redbubble have been touched by her Beauty and illness. Through the kindness of some here on redbubble, We were able to purchase medicines to save her life. grace was dying from intestinal worms. This is because the village has no clean water. I spoke to our Volunteer worker today who is staying in the village, and he has informed me that Grace is now making a great recovery. Praise God. There are many Like Grace who die each year in agony. We are making a difference. Please pray and help us reach many more like grace. We need your gifts. PLEASE READ THIS. Taken in remote Nigeria. I and the team were waiting for the ferry to cross then Nile and continue our long journey to Tunga Zuga Village in kebbe state. Often my work as a missionary, working with extreme poor and sick children can be very emotional.Tears of sorrow and heartbreak, desperation and frustration overwhelm me as I and the small mission team do what we can with the little we have to help. yet there are times like this one when there is joy and happiness as I see people and scenes of great beauty. Truly God has blessed me with a wonderful life. I have never had the joy of owning my own home, or having a nice car or wealth. yet I am so happy to have a relationship with Jesus.God supplies all my needs, and I have travelled with God to many villages and he has blessed many. Life is more than a job,Career, wealth or designer cloths. Life is living in Gods presence everyday and experiencing his love and peace. Life for me is doing what is in Gods heart and that is helping the extreme poor. My Inspiration and passion is from God. I Live for him and he lives through me. I have been on mission and not a penny in my pocket, yet my heavenly father has met my needs, concerning Food, lodging, travel and covered all expenses. One one occasion, he sent an angel to pay my hotel bill. While in India The Lord moved me so much to travel overnight on a train, a day early to return to London. If I had not obeyed his leading, I would have been killed in a terrorist bombing. Its a wonderful Life with God. [Taken in Natural Light]. Taken on the banks of the river Nile, remote Nigeria. I got into conversation with this Muslim girl and I felt s deep compassion for her, as she said She sells peanuts to get money to help her Grandfather who cares for her and her brother and two sisters. Her mother is dead and when she died the father just left and never returned. She told me that she only sold three packets that day and she was selling from around 10 am to 7pm. She did not make enough even to buy basic foods. She spoke good English so I knew she had had some education. I and my fellow mission workers bought what she had left. Then I asked her If I could pray for her. She said yes. I asked God to open her heard adn reveal himself to her. We led to to Christ. She wept and the lord really did touch her. We now visit her village often. All proceeds from sale of my art, or donations made via our charity website goes to help extreme poor and sick in remote and rural villages of Africa. PLEASE READ THIS DESCRIPTION. [AS IS} / I am a missionary, born in Northern Ireland and living in London. my passion in life is to help the poor in rural and isolated villages in Africa and India. Abhijeet in Hindu language means “one who is victorious, a star”. She certainly lives up to her name. 3 years old and already has faced abuse, and hunger. She was close to death and in much pain. Abijeet is one child we rescued through The INDIAN NEW LIFE MISSION, based in India. Her smile melted my heart and as I was told her story I could not help give God thanks for the few Indian Christians that reached out to her. With little money, they took her into the Orphanage, where now she is cared for. I now have sponsored Abijeet and for only £10 per month, she is fed, clothed and will attend a full education when she is old enough. I do not get financial funding from any Church, My own income is little. But I made my mind up a long time ago to share what God has blessed me with with the poor. I have not gone hungry, nor my family. I rent my home, and drive a car. My children are all educated and blessed by God. I have lacked nothing, because blesses the sower. Gods burning Love and Passion for the outcast and poor burns deep within my heart, and hopefully can be seen throgh my life and camera lens. Abijeet is a shining star and a true testimony of what Love and sharing can do. Please Pray for me, that I can bless many more suffering children like Abijeet. Strengthen my arm in Gods mission to reach the hurting of this world with his love and care. Pray and do what the Lord lays on your heart. You will become richer for it. India. she has never gone to school because her parents cannot afford the school fees, uniform and text book. It costs £70 = $130 to cover a whole years education. These gypsy people are descendants of the Romany Gypsies. But here in India They are Classed as the outcast and Untouchables by Hindu religion. They live in camps where there is no clean water, Little food and no Sanitation. They have no land, little possessions and live in make shift houses and tents made from sticks and plastic sheets. PLEASE TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO READ THIS. I am an Irish artist and missionary working with extreme poor in Africa and India. In this one camp 52 children suffer from Intestinal worm infection, and the death rate is very high. This is due to lack of clean water. The is Akuti, an Indian gypsy girl aged 11 years. Her name means ‘Princess’ and she really is a Gypsy princess. But she, like almost all of her people, the Nara_Kar-Avars (gypsy children), are treated with contempt and rejection, and denied even the basics of life. To be born a Gypsy under Hindu religion is to be born into the lowest of the lowest casts. / Known as Outcasts and treated as Untouchables, Akuti and many millions like her face a life with little hope. / She has never gone to school, as her parents barely earn enough to feed her, and cannot afford the £70-$130 per year they need for school fees, uniform and text books. I am a missionary and was born in Northern Ireland and now live in London. My passion and inspiration to work and help these precious poor is born from my personal relationship with God. his love and mercy changed my life completely in 1986. 50 of the 64 children from this village have never gone to school. Mary is 12 years old and she cares for her younger brother. She never has gone to school like most in Tunga/Zuga village. I called this photograph “what If”. What if someone paid the £70 -$120. per year for her school fees, uniform and text books?. What if someone wanted to give Mary a future where she could learn to read, write, and what if Mary learned skills that would earn her money and she could help her younger brother also to go to school? / What if Mary had the change to be what she wants to be, a Nurse? Quite a while ago, a lovely and passionate woman, a wondeful writer [yet not many know this] – wrote a story and asked me my opinion of it. Immediately, after reading it, and wiping the tears from my eyes [no, not kidding], I felt totally inspired to create. We both agreed that I should create my vision image from her story, and it has taken a long time to get there. / / The image vision was instant, but getting it onto a digital image the way I wanted it to look, meant I had to learn certain things. 3D rendering for one [I have practised that on other, previous images], I had to get my merging flawless, and of course, I had to go get the shots I needed as well, and then I could start the work. / I managed to finish the piece, and send a preview to the beautiful writer – she approved, and wanted it posted too – so here we go. Here is the story Once upon a time, deep in the heart of the dark continent, there lived an elephant named Muriel. All elephants are given gifts, and Muriel’s gifts were with words and with memory. Because of the nature of her gifts, she had been assigned a very important task within her herd: she was the chief storyteller. As the chief storyteller, it was her job every night to weave tales from the preceding day’s events to preserve the memories of the herd in a form that would be etched in their hearts as well as their minds. But the job of the chief storyteller wasn’t that simple, as it was also her duty to weave tales to inspire the herd for the new day that followed. Muriel, like all chief storytellers that preceded her, inspired her herd in many different ways. Some nights she told of humorous tales that allowed the elephants to see and learn from the folly of their actions. Some nights she left them in awe of another elephant’s bravery or sacrifice, inspiring them to do greatness in the days that followed. Other nights she told them sorrowful tales of loss that wrenched their hearts and caused them to shed great tears, so that they would be moved to appreciate life and live and love more the next day. / As chief storyteller, Muriel had an even greater gift than those of words and memory: she had a gift of true love. It was widely known amongst the elephants that all chief storytellers must also have a great love, for without a great love the gifts of words and memory fade. Muriel’s love was a big, strong, elephant who had the gift of finding water during the hot summer months, and he had been named the chief water-dowser of the herd. During those hot, dry months, he would lead members of the herd out and together they would find life-giving water for the rest of the herd. Upon returning home, he would walk together and he would share his travels with Muriel. Muriel would then use his words and his love to ignite her gifts and string together the words for her stories. He was Muriel’s life and breath, and she was his. / One hot, dry summer day the need for water was growing more urgent. Muriel’s love knew that he was going to have to lead his group to far away places to find water, and they set out early in the morning on their task. That night Muriel anxiously awaited for her love to return with the other elephants after the long day of water-dowsing. She was anxious because she knew how desperately her herd needed a new source of water, and because it had been a long day for her love and his group, and such long days were dangerous on the plains. Her heart lifted as she saw the group return, but then fell as she saw that her love was not among them. The members of the herd explained that they had searched for water but had been unable to find it, and that her love had stayed behind to continue looking overnight. Her heart grew heavy at the thought of her love out alone in the night, and she set out with her heavy heart determined to find him. / Muriel walked the paths that she and her love had visited together so many times before and saw no trace of him. She called out to him with her heart and for the first time since they had begun their lives together she felt no reply. As the night grew colder and she continued to wander in search of her love she suddenly felt a warmth flowing through her veins. It was a warmth she had experienced many times before; it was the warmth she felt every time she used her gifts to weave her stories and share them with her herd. Muriel felt the warmth guiding her, and she followed its unseen hand through the bush until she came upon a hidden and flowing river. She approached the river as the warmth filled her and completed her and she breathed a sigh of relief knowing her herd would be safe now that water had been found. / Her sigh of relief was temporary, as she had still not found her love. Muriel walked for a distance down the edge of the river, still clinging to a rapidly fading glimmer of hope. She continued, calling out to her love with her heart and having the unfamiliar experience of feeling no reply. She rounded a corner and saw a figure in the moonlight. As she neared the figure, her world suddenly and unexpectedly fell out from underneath her. She gazed at the figure, stunned, seeing what she had known was true in her heart long before. It was the motionless body of her love. / Muriel laid down next to her love and she cried deep tears of an incredible and overwhelming sadness. She cried these tears into the river that her love had found and to which his gift had guided her. As she cried for the loss of her greatest gift she felt her other gifts leave her. She watched helplessly as her memories slipped away. Her heart, losing its own inspiration, lost its gifts with words, and her own ability to inspire fell into the river. / While she cried she determined she would compose one last story. It was the story of her love, of how his gift had led him to the water, of how this pursuit had led him to be shot down by hunters. It was the story of how their love had transcended death so that she would find him and so the herd would be safe. It was a story of wisdom and a story of sacrifice and hardship but ultimately, it was a story of profound and deep love. / As Muriel was too weak to return to her herd, she called out to them. It wasn’t an audible call, but rather it was the same call that her love had sent to her: one that was deep and from the heart. Because the elephants knew her heart from her stories, and had felt her calling them night after night, they felt her immediately and began the trek to be by her side. / When they arrived, Muriel proudly told the story of her love. As she slipped away to join him she finished her story by asking her herd to drink from the river, which they reluctantly did. As they drank from the river, each member of the herd felt a warmth fill them as her gifts of words and of memory that she had shed with her tears flowed into each of them. Though they felt a sadness as they bade their storyteller and dowser goodbye, the herd also felt a sense of oneness and of peace that they had never before experienced. / Over the next few days the herd attempted, with sadness, to choose a new chief storyteller to etch memories in their hearts and minds and to inspire them for each new day. As they tried to choose, however, they realized with great surprise that they no longer needed a storyteller, as each elephant had taken Muriel’s gifts and was now a storyteller in his own right. But they soon realized that what she had given them was even greater than a herd of storytellers. As it is widely known amongst elephants that all storytellers must have a great love, the true meaning of her gift became apparent: Muriel had given them all the gift of true love. ECGardner
