  • NEEDS TO BE VIEWED LARGE Panorama of 3 photos of Portman, Costa Calida, Spain. The little bay of Portman nestle under the soaring hills of a national park and it is unspoiled and quite. Portman has a history dating back to roman times and for two thousand years it was an important source of valuable minerals. The beach has been discoloured from the mining. To the right of portman is some derelict mining processing plant and above a mining chimney. On the mountains are modern wind turbines and below them high in the hills is another abandoned mine. The mountains are richly coloured from all the mining. Mining was prominent in the area at the turn of the 20th Century although dates back to Roman times. © Copyright 2008 Squealia, All Rights Reserved

  • We went for a bit of a hike today to see the Bateria Cenizas, Costa Calida, South East Spain. It is an hours uphill walk from the road. I took 175 pictures so i guess you will all bored with them by the time I have finished! So the first shot is a view looking down onto Portman Bay. There is another Bateria down by the lighthouse. This stretch of coastline has various military installations dating from around 1930. All are abandoned now. Portman itself was a thriving mining area dating back as far as the Romans up until the 1970’s. Even today there is some open quarrying. In the next bay you can see the historical natural harbour of Cartagena. You can see the top of the oil refinery which is sited at it’s entrance. MAP Started photography May 2008

  • Stansfield, one of Gary Oldman’s greatest characters at a pivot point. EV-REY-ONE! Leon the Professional

  • A pair of abandoned boats in Portman, Spain.

  • Another view of Portman Bay, Costa Calida, Spain on the Mediterranean. You can see where decades of mining silted up the bay. Orton effect added. Nikon D40 18-55mm

  • Spoiler Alert! If you haven’t watched the film or play ‘Closer’ (and plan on doing so), it isn’t a good idea to read on. Alice Ayres was the name given to a character in the 2004 film ‘Closer’, which starred Natalie Portman, Jude Law, Julia Roberts, and Clive Owen. It is only at the end of the film that we find out Alice’s real name, and realise that she took her pseudonym from this plaque found in Postman’s Park. This is one of a series of tiles in a memorial created by George Frederic Watts as a way of remembering ‘every day’ heroes who may otherwise have been forgotten.

  • Postman’s Park is a beautiful little park near St Bart’s hospital and Little Britain in London. This shot was taken just after 9AM on a Sunday morning, hence the lack of people – I would imagine it is the perfect hide-away for a quick lunch break from the offices around the area. The park featured in the film Closer with Jude Law and Natalie Portman. Another shot of part of the park used in the film is Who Was Alice Ayres?

  • MEDIUM: Corel Painter 8 / DATE COMPLETED: 11.27.2009 / LAST UPDATE: 11.27.2009 Speedpainting! I actually did a pastel work of this photo of Natalie Portman back in high school, and I thought it’d be fun to redo it in Painter. See my old work here.
