This awesome winter sunset was photographed on Town Beach in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia. I had been photographing the rocks at the south end of the beach where the light from the setting sun was painting its way across the seascape when I turned around to go back to my car and saw this. How could I resist? If you look closely at the bottom left corner there is the silhouette of an Oyster Catcher walking around the rocks. Fuji S9600: Manual settings of f/11 @ 1/125sec, Auto Focus, hand held. Find out more about Find out more about Port Macquarie beaches if you wish. On a moody Spring evening, dense but scattered clouds roll across the bay threatening to open up and pour on anything that falls their path. The setting sun casts its light across the clouds making them glow in a way that makes them appear to be on fire. The stunning colour of the sand comes up through the shallow water in unusual blues and greens while at the same time mixing with the oranges and reds of the sky.
This beautiful river scene sunset was photographed from the south bank of the Hastings River at the Boundary Street Ferry Wharf in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia , on a mid-winter’s day. Milady Fuji was sitting high and proud on her tripod, with the White Balance set to Sunny due to the glare from the sky and nearest boat, the ISO to 100 for the good Image Quality and to minimise Noise, and with Spot Metering, Centre Focussing, Continuous Focus and Fast Shooting settings completing the set-up. / I chose the 1/500sec Shutter Speed in Shutter Priority as I had some previous success using this setting on some sunset shots and found it helps control the Exposure very well in these conditions as well as freezing any motion quite well. / (Fortunately it froze the flying Pelican. Can you spot him?) :) / After an earlier test shot under the same conditions and a check of the Histogram, I found I did not need any Exposure Compensation. / After I set the Timer to 2 seconds, I pre-focussed on the brightest area on the nearest boat, framed the shot, locked the tripod, squeezed the trigger and after the “Beep! Beep! Beeeeep! Kachunk!” … here it is! Visit the Sunrise-Sunset collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more delightful sunset scenes. The last remains of the old Port Willunga jetty, South Australia. Port Willunga Beach was recently named as the only Australian location in ‘Travel and Leisure’ magazine – hip travel list of emerging destinations. This is still one of my favourite locations to photograph and is only a 40 minute drive south of Adelaide. Pentax *ist DS – DSLR. Also available:

A group of like minded crazy photographers gathered at Port Willunga, SA 5th Jan 2008. Just as we lined up for our sunset shots two Tiger Moths flew over though they don’t show up too well with the wide angle :o) / / / /

I have always loved Sea urchins and have always collected them from when i was a child right up into adulthood. They would be the first thing I would look for when I got out of my car and my feet hit the sand on the beach. Suprisingly there arent that many to be found anymore on the beach where I have always gone to find them. sony ax 300 SLR 70 – 200ml lense.

Late evening, bold sky and silhouetting the remains of the old Port Willunga jetty, Port Willunga, South Australia. A favourite spot for photographers and it is rare to visit on a night without running into others with cameras!!! Canon 400D 18-55 lens with CIR Polarising filter. Converted in Photoshop CS3.
A re edit of a pic I already have on here which was a HDR image, trying to steer away from it unless I find it appropriate. I like this one better in a lot of ways sometimes it’s better not to see all the hidden details. Processed in Adobe Lightroom 2. Gear out in the field – Canon 400D, Velbon tripod, 10-22mm lens, shutter release, nd grad filter. Enjoy :) This image was the winner of the “Part of the Sun” (Sunset or Sunrise) Challenge in the “Mornings & Evenings—Sunbeams & Storms” Group on the 7th of April 2009. Late afternoon at Port Willunga South Australia. Looking out towards the setting sun through the remains of the Old Jetty structure. Not overly sure about the colours here, strange evening with orange red clouds and just dark enough to get a slight amount of motion in the foreground. Canon 400D, 18 -55 lens, CIR Polarising filter coupled with an ND4. Wet legs and a wet tripod, standing out in the water trying to avoid waves!!!!!!

We were racing the clock to try get to Port Arthur by sunset, and there was just too many bends, and slow trucks… However, this beautiful scene popped up, and we were only 10 mins from the site, I had to make a decision… I’m glad I stopped, turns out, the site was closed anyhow, and I got this shot of some weeping willows, and still water pools. 5 mins allong what seems to be an un-named side street, I think it was private property too, but not signed.. Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania, Australia. Canon 50D, 10mm. Available large and best viewed large!!

Spent a week last summer with my family on the Great Ocean Road. Really struggled with poor light until sunset on the last day. Did you catch that sunset Dad, my daughter, Sarah asked….......Hell Yeah.
