  • This awesome winter sunset was photographed on Town Beach in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia. I had been photographing the rocks at the south end of the beach where the light from the setting sun was painting its way across the seascape when I turned around to go back to my car and saw this. How could I resist? If you look closely at the bottom left corner there is the silhouette of an Oyster Catcher walking around the rocks. Fuji S9600: Manual settings of f/11 @ 1/125sec, Auto Focus, hand held. Find out more about Find out more about Port Macquarie beaches if you wish. • On a moody Spring evening, dense but scattered clouds roll across the bay threatening to open up and pour on anything that falls their path. The setting sun casts its light across the clouds making them glow in a way that makes them appear to be on fire. The stunning colour of the sand comes up through the shallow water in unusual blues and greens while at the same time mixing with the oranges and reds of the sky.

  • This beautiful river scene sunset was photographed from the south bank of the Hastings River at the Boundary Street Ferry Wharf in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia , on a mid-winter’s day. Milady Fuji was sitting high and proud on her tripod, with the White Balance set to Sunny due to the glare from the sky and nearest boat, the ISO to 100 for the good Image Quality and to minimise Noise, and with Spot Metering, Centre Focussing, Continuous Focus and Fast Shooting settings completing the set-up. / I chose the 1/500sec Shutter Speed in Shutter Priority as I had some previous success using this setting on some sunset shots and found it helps control the Exposure very well in these conditions as well as freezing any motion quite well. / (Fortunately it froze the flying Pelican. Can you spot him?) :) / After an earlier test shot under the same conditions and a check of the Histogram, I found I did not need any Exposure Compensation. / After I set the Timer to 2 seconds, I pre-focussed on the brightest area on the nearest boat, framed the shot, locked the tripod, squeezed the trigger and after the “Beep! Beep! Beeeeep! Kachunk!” … here it is! Visit the Sunrise-Sunset collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more delightful sunset scenes. • The last remains of the old Port Willunga jetty, South Australia. Port Willunga Beach was recently named as the only Australian location in ‘Travel and Leisure’ magazine – hip travel list of emerging destinations. This is still one of my favourite locations to photograph and is only a 40 minute drive south of Adelaide. Pentax *ist DS – DSLR. Also available:

  • 800 views. This is Port Willunga Jetty in mono. Taken at Port Willunga, South Australia, Australia at sunset. I was going for a high key type image. This was taken on a tripod, no flash, f25, ISO 200, 1.3 sec exposure with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D. I was so fortunate to sell, on redbubble, a large mounted print of this work, with the white border and artist’s details, to a good friend, Nathan. Thank you so much.

  • Taken at Half Moon Bay near Melbourne, Victoria, Australia at sunset on a nice warm summer’s day. Taken with Canon 400D on tripod and with ND4 grad filter, worked on in Adobe Lightroom 2 Click here for my other seascapes Featured in the Mornington Peninsula & Port Phillip Bay Group in February 2009

  • After arriving at the beach after work I started walking to the point but couldn’t resist taking a snap of this bucket that just happened to be sitting on the shore. There wasn’t even any people around so I wondered how it had got there… Processed in Adobe Lightroom 2 only, experimented with the new adjustment brushes which are coooool! Used Cokin ND4 grad and circular polarising filters, taken with a Canon 400D Click here for my other seascapes Featured in the Selective Colouring Group in January 2009 Featured in the Canon DSLR Group in January 2009 Featured in the All About Water group in January 2009

  • A re edit of a pic I already have on here which was a HDR image, trying to steer away from it unless I find it appropriate. I like this one better in a lot of ways sometimes it’s better not to see all the hidden details. Processed in Adobe Lightroom 2. Gear out in the field – Canon 400D, Velbon tripod, 10-22mm lens, shutter release, nd grad filter. Enjoy :) This image was the winner of the “Part of the Sun” (Sunset or Sunrise) Challenge in the “Mornings & Evenings—Sunbeams & Storms” Group on the 7th of April 2009. • Under the pier at Cowes, Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia at Dawn. Taken at the same time as Beginning of a new day for something a little bit different. It was pretty chilly, windy and way too early in the morning for me, it’s amazing how much lens distortion you get with a wide angle lens! / Settings Canon 40D, 10-22mm EF-S. • This little gem can be found just around the corner from Loch Ard Gorge near Port Campbell off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Australia. I came here the afternoon before and there were snap happy tourists everywhere but decided to come back the next morning and there wasn’t a soul in sight, just the crashing ocean to keep me company… Unfortunately as of early June 2009 this archway has collapsed leaving two apostles next to eachother. For information read this story on the collapse / Settings Canon 40D, 10-22mm EF-S. • Port Noarlunga Jetty. / South Australia. A combination of all my favourite techniques: / Wide angle, long exospure, HDR and night photography. Canon 50D. / 10-20mm (at 10mm) HDR – 3 Bracketed Exposures (up to 30 seconds) blended manually in CS3. The longest exposure (2 stops overexposed) brought out the unusual streaks from the jetty lights. Click for larger preview. See also: /
