This is why I love California! Spring wildflowers just take my breath away…and I will travel near and far to find them!! The bloom for this year is under way, but I haven’t had a chance to make any trips, yet…so I am going through my archives and reminding myself of some of my favorite places! This photo was taken in San Luis Obispo County in April of 2005.

A lovely tranquil woodland setting for this rustic bench (at Kailzie gardens, near Peebles in the scottish borders) surrounded by wonderful spring flowers like blue himalayan poppies, pink and bluebells, daisies and yellow celandine… while the nearby stream trickles down through the glade of colourful azaleas…. For a closeup of the blue poppies see himalayan blue taken in my garden (not this one ..lol!))

In Greco-Roman myths, poppies were used as offerings to the dead. Poppies are used as emblems on tombstones to symbolize eternal sleep.
