Idoru (Japanese idol, aidoru), the term often refers to female performers in their late teens and early twenties who achieve fame through publicity in the mass media, young girls are often plucked by talent scouts at an early age based primarily on their looks. / In Japan the butterfly is seen as a symbol of young womanhood. “If he’d anticipated her at all, it had been as some industrial strength synthesis of Japan’s last three dozen top female media faces. Umeboshi (Japanese : ; literally “pickled ume”) are a Japanese pickle (tsukemono) and are well known for their healing properties and sourness. The Ume tree (Prunus Mume) is a species of the asian plum. Umeboshi are made by harvesting ume fruit when they ripen around June and pickling them in jars with seasoned pickling liquid, or vinegar. Purple perilla (member of the mint family) leaves are often added to the mix, giving the Umeboshi a dark red colour. Umeboshi are often eaten with white rice and can be found in a variety of bento boxes due to their high salt and citric acid content, which acts as a preservative.

The main stencil image is one layer of the four layer stencil I created in early 2008 inspired by my interest in fashion photography. ‘Snow and Umbrella’ is 1 of 3, utilising the same same stencil and composition of works I’ve posted on Red Bubble at the moment. The other is ‘Rain Birds’ and ‘Umbrella and Rain’.

The poster edition of the original vector drawn photographic print series I made earlier this year. All VHS covers were hand drawn from original images (it took ages). The rap (Abridged): / Do you remember when your VCR broke and you decided not to get another because they were sort of old technology? DVD was replacing VHS and you could probably buy the shows you wanted as season sets on DVD soon. Have they released those shows yet? Maybe you started watching different stuff because they didn’t release them? I don’t know, but many films aren’t being replaced on DVD at my local video shop when the VHS copy dies … I can’t find Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure in any DVD rental place… and find me The Last Star Fighter while you’re looking. I loved that movie! Things look right on VHS, The Dark Crystal, Star Wars, Alien, Thomas the Tank Engine, Sooty, all better on tape, darker, warmer, grainier. We’ve lost something here, it’s changed, it ain’t cool. detail sample: /

It’s just lips really. Thank you to my better half for lending her face for this image and another thank you to my new graphics tablet. I love you both… And, who thinks I should edit this and put it on a shirt, I was thinking of doing a series of just single sets on shirts, or all of them in this set up with the background removed…. ....your call!
