This small rock pool is found in Cabbage Tree Bay, along the pathway between Manly and Shelly Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches. The sculpture/statue is known as The Oceanids. This image was a 30 second exposure nearly an hour before sunrise with the pool wall and sculpture lit up by a nearby street light. This image has also won a photo of the week at photographer Steve Parish’s Photograph Australia website.

With a heavy NE swell closing down most of the beaches along Australia’s East Coast over new year, not even the pools are safe. In a somewhat typical Aussie understatement, the sign at North Curl Curl pool on Sydney’s Northern Beaches says “Pool Closed, Dangerous Conditions” and that’s if you can get close enough to read it without being washed away. A new years day swim to shake out the NYE cobwebs from the previous night is pretty much out of the question. While I was there, there were some much bigger waves/sprays but this one was pretty solid and nicely balanced the image with the pool. There should probably also be a sign that says “Don’t stand so close to the pool taking photographs” or shoot telephoto from a distance rather than wideangle. But then what’s the fun in that? Although the two feet of water swirling around below me was a bit dicey at times.

Beautiful deep pool, so tranquil and blue when the tide is low. One just has the urge to dive into this one and sit on the bottom for awhile gazing up at the rocky overhangs and watching the fish that call this place home…... / This shot is a 6 shot pan x 3 shot hdr. in portrait mode…... / thanks for having a look…. / rgs, Rob.

Winter Solstice trip to Point Peron, WA This is the rockiest section of coastline that Perth has to offer that I’ve found so far. Plenty of slippery rocks but the clearest rock pools I’ve seen with fish and crabs. Nikon D80 / Sigma 10-20 / 4 secs @ f14, iso100
Another in my series of burnt out cars, shot on a hot humid Saturday afternoon. I find the colors quite fascinating … dozens of shots yet all so different. Shot with Nikon D90 with 60mm Nikon macro lens, 1/80s f/16 /
I’ve seen lots of photos of this beachside pool and they always look great. Theres something about the lighting here at sunrise that looks awesome. So I decided to make the early morning trip out to Coogee to give it a go myself. This is the Result. Fotoman 617 / Fuji Velvia 50 Featured in Dawn and Dusk Light September 2009

Just another day …...... Rota Island – August 2009 / straight out of the camera / Life on this island is friendly and unhurried and the hospitality is as unforgettable as the magical sunsets. Rota Island is a natural playground with around 3000 inhabitants and is known by many to be Micronesia’s best-kept secret / Rota (Chamoru: Luta) also known as the “peaceful island”, is the southernmost island of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and the second southernmost of the Marianas Archipelago. It lies approximately 40 miles north-northeast of the United States territory of Guam. Songsong village is the largest and most populated followed by Sinapalo village (Sinapalu). In 1521, the first European to see Rota, was the lookout on Magellan’s ship Victoria, Lope Navarro. However, Magellan’s Armada of three ships didn’t stop until they reached Guam, so the first European to arrive in Rota (in 1524), was Spanish navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano, who annexed it together with the rest of the Marianas Archipelago on behalf of the Crown of Spain. Rota has diverse flora and fauna.. / Wikipedia ©2009/2010 Globalphotos All rights reserved. / All photographs, text and images by Globalphotos are the exclusive property of Globalphotos – protected under Australian and international copyright laws. / These images may not be reproduced, copied or manipulated without written permission. / No use for Public Domain. / Use of any image for another photographic concept or illustration is a violation of copyright.
